Re: water mark

I've found where I was going wrong. I was putting them in ‘Services,’ but it seems I needed to put them in ‘PDF Services.’ Having done that, they have appeared via the Finder with Option or via right click. That's very odd. "PDF Services" should appear in the print menu's PDF button. Services shoul...

There do already seem to be some ...

I'm sure he will respond. Eh, maybe. To the OP: on the Mac, you're blessed with any number of utilities either built-in or free to download for manipulating PDFs in all sorts of ways. Plus commercial products that are extremely powerful. But my PDFSuite does include a watermark Service, which...

Re: Thank you Finale

Printed music (and all text, for that matter) has spoiled our ability to read handwritings. Is the world of music better off now that every joker can deliver neatly printed parts of whatever tripe? Yeah, civilization really started going downhill after the 1480s. Don't expect me to thank the...

Re: Problem with ScoreMerger

There are any number of software tools for combining PDFs. I would avoid the websites that claim to do this, as they no doubt harvest the contents of your data. On Windows, PDFSam seems to be a respectable choice, though there are others. I would stick with open source software, as you can be sure i...

Re: What notation software do you use on the iPad?

I use SymphonyPro. I tried Notion, but wasn't that keen. SP is very nice, and has a number of input styles. Even a handwriting mode, if you want to take your time.

Both SymphonyPro and Notion will export XML, so that you can sort them out in Finale later.

Re: Finale won't open file

It is odd that Finale is reporting trouble deleting a file with no file path, when you're trying to open one.

Might be worth resetting Finale's preferences (there's a button in the Preferences pane), followed by another restart.

Re: Writing Foreign Language on Finale

I was writing lyrics in Greek until yesterday, and today without quitting the program, it decided to stop showing the greek letters in the lyrics, but started showing boxes with question marks instead. In the text tool, I am able to use greek. Are you using different fonts for lyrics and text boxes...

Re: Problem with ScoreMerger

trying to get one PDF of parts for a string quartet. One PDF containing all four parts, in sequence? Probably easiest to merge four PDF files together, rather than doing this in Finale. If you're trying to create a Finale score from individual part files, then for a string quartet, it's probably ju...

This is why I keep Page Scaling to 100%, so that page numbers, headers, margins are all specified correctly. Then I scale the Staff Height to the size I want.

You could submit your request to MakeMusic, and it will find its priority on the queue of things that need doing.

Until then, you may like to try altering the parameters suggested for the best results.

Re: Numberpad issue

It sounds like the numpad is producing the same results as when you press the numbers on the main keyboard. I don't know whether that's an issue with the way the numpad works, or how the OS/Finale handles your numpad.

Re: Thank you Finale

I concur. It's very easy to complain about things that don't work, because our expectations are so high, that we forget about why we use Finale. For me, it's still the fastest and most precise way of getting notation on the page.

Re: iMac or MBPro?

I have been using Finale 2014.5 on a MBPro Retina for the last couple of weeks on a large project. The MBPro is running Sierra. I believe that 2014.5 is not recommended to run on Sierra (or rather that Sierra is not recommended for using 2014.5). There may well be a variety of odd little quirks. I'...

Re: allowing rhythmic values not to add up

The Note Entry tools have not changed between 2012 and 25.5. Simple or Speedy Entry. Both have menu options to Check for Extra Notes, or not. For early music, which often lacks bar lines... Early music typesetting wants the whole note to *stay* as a whole note. " In some styles of early music editio...

Re: inconsistent hairpin ends

As motet points out, the fact that the lines have flat ends affects how they appear when they join. Finale can't do 'mitres', which specify the kind of join, regardless. Not so much a bug, as a lack of feature. However, you may find that the recent feature of setting open widths (surely heights?) fo...

Re: Quickly changing fonts

You can change the Default Music Font under the Documents menu. You can load in a Library of options and settings that suit a different font.

That will get you most of the way. There may still be some things that need manually adjusting. Chord suffixes are not without difficulty.

Yes.

If you want to get a feeling of what different instrumentations will sound like, the Garritan sounds will work pretty well.

Finale comes with FinaleScript, but this is little more than a 'macro' tool that sequences commands. There's no flow control or logic. So by the time you had typed in everything you wanted to do, you could have just ... done it. It's useful for saving and recalling sequences of commands or batch pro...

To avoid losing elements like lyrics, articulations, etc when you Retranscribe:

1. Copy the entire passage.
2. Retranscribe.
3. Paste back the passage, using the Edit Filter to de-select Notes and Rests.

Re: What computer specs would be perfect for Finale?

Firstly, I'll check with MM whether those specs are up-to-date. As said, I use Finale on my Retina display with absolutely no problems. I also use it on my Mac Mini with a 27" Thunderbolt Display (2560 x 1440), and haven't seen any (related) problems in the last six years! If those specs were true, ...
