BT, what are you using instead of Finale, now?
As you asked, I'm using Dorico. It may not let you do Ferneyhough, but you don't need to spend hours moving things manually just to stop standard notation colliding.

I'm not sure what your picture refers to,
My picture refers to the Category Designer. That's what it looks like in Dark Mode.

Re: Graphics problems with Finale 26.3

I'm getting the same problems in F25. a PDF on page 1 is entirely absent when the page is exported as a PDF. Printing does at least show the image in the right place. A brand new Untitled.musx file, with my PDF logo added to the front page behaves similarly, on two different computers. No PDF logo a...

Re: Finale 26.3 released

"If Finale encounters a problem saving a document, a warning is displayed with suggestions for further action." That sounds like they've made an attempt to fix (or rather workaround) the old "can't-save because of temp-file" bug. Online help pages haven't been updated yet to list the full details. S...

Re: Graphics problems with Finale 26.3

Furthermore: If you export pages with the Graphics Tool as PDF, any graphic images on those pages will be in the wrong page position. And if they're EPS, you'll get the low-quality display image, rather than the vector data. Saving as PDF from the Mac print menu puts the images in the right place, b...

Graphics problems with Finale 26.3

I was interested to see what improvements they've made in Finale 26.3. Here's literally my first 5 minutes: 1. The old 'misplaced selection' bug is still there/returned. Here's my selection: Screenshot 9.png and here's the EPS file: Screenshot 12.png When I import the EPS file back into Finale, I ma...

One can go from v26.3 back to v26.2? I never found a way to do that.
You can of course restore the old application from your backup. Updates to all the support files are largely inconsequential.

Re: Latest Finale blog

I wonder who took over Finale ownership? Andy Stephens is moving from Chairman to CEO of Peaksware. He is the VC investor responsible for partnering Peaksware and MakeMusic. Mark Adler is still (AFAIK) the 'Director of Production' for MakeMusic. https://www.alfred.com/press-room/andy-stephens-ceo/ ...

Re: Anything new on the Choral VST side?

I've just started using SoundIron's "Requiem Light" library. It works with Kontact Player, and seems to work fine with Finale. https://soundiron.com/collections/choirs It comes with five different vowel sounds, which have a good attack and sustain, and not too machine-gunny on fast runs. For me, it'...

Re: Best MIDI Keyboard for Finale

I'm not sure that there's any particular keyboard that works "best for Finale" more than any other. Generally, you just want to send MIDI notes when you're using Simple/Speedy Entry, and any keyboard will do that, even a $30 one. I'm not sure to what extent Finale records CC controller data, or to w...

Basically, it's white text on a dark background. Well, apart from Mail (and an option in TextEdit), the contents of most document windows still stay black on white: e.g. in Safari, Pages, Word, Preview, etc. You can simply invert the video of the entire display with Command Alt CTRL 8, but it take ...

As it states on the link you provided, the version for the engine can’t be higher than the version of the player.

Finale should not crash, even if the document was saved with a higher version originally.

OT: Little MIDI app for MacOS

Any Mac user who has upgraded to Catalina may have noticed that there is now no easy way of playing MIDI files, unless you load them into a Logic or Garageband. (The old QuickTime Player v7 is 32-bit; the new QuickTime Player X opens MIDI files, but won't actually play them! ) Anyway, if you ...

Re: MacOS: Get number of parts as a System Variable

Finale provides significant metadata to Spotlight, including a list of the Parts in the document. See "Get Info > More Info" in the Finder. You can access this information in AppleScript. Possibly using the shell command mdls in a 'do command' call. mdls /Users/Ben/Documents/Music/Palestrina/Palestr...

Re: Finale on iPad Pro 3rd Generation

No. Software is designed to 'call on' the Operating System to create windows, draw graphics, etc. Mac software needs to run on MacOS, which has different commands from iOS for iPad. Your iPad would not understand what Finale was asking it. Also, the iPad can only run apps that come from the App Stor...

Re: Tuplet not allowing correct amount of notes

The attempts to make distinction between less and fewer , amount and number , and other proscriptions (split infinitives, prepositions at the end of sentences), are themselves novelties; mostly invented by Victorian schoolteachers as a means of introducing some order into a chaotic language. Dryden,...

Re: hyperscribe

I've found that to get decent results from HyperScribe, you must be a completely robotic keyplayer. Also, depending on settings, it either cuts notes short at the barline, so any tied note will have rests on the new bar, or compensates the other way, always tying the last note of each bar onto a cho...
