Re: 8va sign
this bottom-alignment seems like something someone at MakeMusic made up. Or maybe it was the SMuFL folks at Dorico. I've always thought that aligning the line to the top of the characters (and to the bottom for bassa) looks much better than some random mid-point. Screenshot 7.png Screenshot 6.png I...

Re: Export Manuscript Texture Setting to PDF????
I am not familiar with using Python but I will see if I can suss out how to run that script on my Mac. Seems like that would be easy to automate. Seems like this script would be one click for any number of pages. Thanks for the redirect for these scripts. The whole point of my suite of scripts was ...

There is a script there called 'watermarkPDF.py', which puts one background PDF image under the existing page.PianoWizard wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 8:32 pmBUON: Thanks for sharing the script. Is there a Python script that allows for using an image as the PDF background by chance?

Doesn't this mean that the notation is now bitmapped? Obviously, the image is a bitmap, but it would be better to keep the music as vector.
You could add the image as a background object in Illustrator.

Re: Export Manuscript Texture Setting to PDF????
No; but there are ways to add a tinted background to a PDF. Some PDF editors will do this (e.g. Adobe Acrobat, Master PDF Editor). As you're on a Mac, I've written a short python script that will add a tint panel to a PDF, which, you can put in an Automator Quick Action or a Shortcut.app workflow. (...

Re: Part editing workflow
I'm not aware of any easy solutions, having spent over 10 years trying to do this sort of thing routinely in Finale. Either you have to create a combined separate document for the parts, (with the risk of inconsistencies from the score); or just waste loads of paper. Or possibly do actual old-fashio...

I checked all the templates for my own copy of Finale v27.4.1.146 - that is, I opened each template, went to the File Info chiclet, and looked at the field for “Score Name’ Insert. No sign of ‘a piacere’ anywhere. I found it in a new document based on the Choral (Finale Maestro) template. Screensho...

No. I don't even know if the plug-in framework would be able to provide that functionality.
MIDI Editing is just one area where Finale's tools have not been updated in decades, while other apps have implemented powerful useful functions.

So, what I'm hearing is that I should probably just update Finale, which means I will need to deal with that [“Finale (Autoupdate).app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.] message. That is certainly not a consequence of updating Finale. That message sometimes appears i...

Re: Finale B4 Template wrong?
Finale takes its paper sizes from the pagesizes.txt file. On a Mac, that's in the USER Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 27/Configuration Files/ Sure enough, B4 is given as: B4 = 25.75c, 36.4c; 1.27c, 1.27c, 2c, 1.27c, 1.9c (where c is centimetres. You can use all the units that Finale un...

Have you considered upgrading your Finale version to 27.4.1? You will get the latest Aria player Mac users get ARIA version 2.039, while Windows users get 1.959 (or possibly 1.961). This makes it impossible to share custom setups from Mac to Windows, because ARIA won't load the save-state fr...

You will find that LOTS has changed, and you'll need to learn all the things that are different. Okay, and maybe a feature I desired is included in the present Finale: the ability to "copy and paste" page layouts for a "certain page" in the score. Of course, you will also find that a considerable a...

A note to David Ward and Buon Tempi, as I write I'm looking at a brand new (Barenreiter) score of the St. Matthew Passion (JSB), 8ths and 16ths are NOT beamed when they fall on a single syllable. Perhaps I should write to this illustrious publishing house and tell them they're out of date? :D An Ur...

First thing to do would be to try it without the audio drivers loaded. Boot into safe boot mode (hold SHIFT at startup), and then try.
What hardware are you on? Any reason you're not updating to 27.4, and to a newer OS?

The ans. as to why I haven't upgraded: My understanding is that Coda Music/Make Music no longer "has a forum" for Finale, and, in the past, I relied on their forum. The MakeMusic forum was closed in 2017. This forum (which you joined in 2005!) has been the 'spiritual successor' ever since. And ther...

At least on Mac, Finale 27.4 still installs a ReWire component.
However, the ReWire protocol has been discontinued by Propellerhead and Steinberg.

Re: change note to custom duration
I think I've seen music of Debussy or Ravel where they just put the ties, but they don't actually go to the end of the measure. They just stop in the middle of the measure. I thought about doing it that way, which would probably be easier to do in Finale. You're talking about Laissez Vibrez ties, w...

Re: zero beaming
In choral music it is common for all 8th & 16th notes to be un- beamed, so as to allow for precise positioning of syllables in lyrics. Firstly, as your example shows : not ALL notes are unbeamed, but the beams are only joined for notes on the same syllable. It WAS common, in the days when lyric syl...
