Re: PDF quality

I mean dotty on the printed page.

You could certainly try PDF/X.

Re: PDF quality

Is the image "dotted"? Make sure you turn off ColorSync in the print dialog options, selecting "In Printer" colour management instead. If, as you say, the PDF appears to be vector data, then the problem is likely to be a print setting somewhere. The Resolution metadata is the notional page size, mea...

I'd say they look pretty much like a Century variant. Or try Monotype Modern.

Re: Creep

You can also get a Black-and-White PDF by using the Graphics Tool to export the pages as PDF. This way is actually a little faster than “printing” to PDF. Though not as fast if you want to process the PDF further (like a booklet) and then have to expend additional user activity to do so. Also, Fina...

Re: Creep

The Gray issue seems to be caused by the characteristics of the selected printer when you 'print' to PDF. Some printers print PDFs of Finale files in RGB, and other's don't. You may want to try creating a new print queue for making PDFs. (I've also got a project on Github that gives you print queues...

Re: Creep

Well, in the real world, it's not an entirely linear relationship. You probably ought to rein in the creep slightly for larger sheet numbers. Also, as said, if you have a silly amount of creep (or sheets), -- or indeed no margin -- then the pages will actually superimpose. Anyway, if anyone wants th...

Re: Creep

Hector, The creep function in my script is fairly crude, but if you look at it, it moves the position of each page on the sheet away from the edge by the set value. The next sheet increments the process, so it's a per sheet value. # Set creep for next sheet. if count%4 == 0: leftPage[0][0] += creep ...

The Text Search & Replace utility is actually quite good. You can specify which characters to change, and filter only lyrics. Or try converting the whole thing to a different font and back.

Use System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts to define a new shortcut for either of the two menu commands. Use "Text->Inserts->Sharp" as the menu command.

Re: Save File Fragment as Idea

Is there any capability in Finale to simply select and save the selection as a new file? It seems like a useful capability. Yes, there is. You can Cut, Copy, Insert or Paste to and from a "Clip File". On Mac, hold down Alt with the usual keys for those operations, and you'll get a file dialog to sa...

Re: OT: A3 page size + bleed area = ?

Welcome to the exciting world of print production! :D Have you included crop marks in your PDF? Bleed is usually around 3mm, because you can only rely on a printer trimming to within 1.5mm of your intended mark. If you've already got an A3 printer, it will be considerably cheaper to find some...

Re: QuickLook mystery in Mac's Finder

Recent versions of Finale contain the QuickLook generator within the application bundle, rather than in a Library folder. You can get into trouble if you have more than one version of Finale; particularly if the most recent install wasn't the latest version that you have. This Apple document tells y...

Re: Shifty Graphics in PDF

1. The greyscale issue depends on the characteristic of the printer you select in the print menu when you make the PDF. Check the output of one of your PDFs to see if you are getting Black or Grey. You could try using a dummy "generic" Printer queue, or use a dedicated print-to-file queue like CUPS-...

Re: Plugins for Finale 26

You just need to copy the plug-ins from:
/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/Plug-ins

to:

/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 26/Plug-ins

For GPO, you probably just need the GPO.soundmap file in the Data subfolder at the same location.

If you right click on the syllable's anchor, you can set the alignment individually. Sometimes, the default alignment doesn't hold, and you have you 'force' it with the contextual menu.

GIFF Violins 2 Keyswitches

Has anyone noticed that the "Violins 2 KS" samples have significantly more keyswitches than the "Violins KS". I'd assumed that Violins 2 was to have a difference between Firsts and Seconds. However, the 'extra' switches are not documented: The Help Pages say that "All KS Solo and Section Strings" ha...

Presumably for importing as graphics into a DTP app. You can import one page from a multi-page PDF into things like InDesign, though it might cause file bloat.

create them using Finale’s Graphics Tool. This not only produces smaller files than those made with the built-in MacOS function, but also ones which are true B&W instead of RGB. The RGB or Black issue depends on the selected printer in the Print menu and its characteristics when you Save As PDF. As...
