Re: Swarm of Finale 25/26 Bugs: At this point, Unusable

I have tried reinstalling Finale probably 5 times over the past few months After one re-install, it's safe to rule out problems with the application's installation itself. Doing it again isn't going to make it install harder or better. Problems of this sort are likely to be caused by incompatibilit...

Re: The last gasp of Finale?

Isn't that painting it a bit too black? I got the hyperbole, but was it just a joke...? The ways of MM being inscrutable, we'll just have to abide... Maybe. Now add another report: "During that decade, we'll face competition from a free, open-source app that produces passable results; a brand new p...

Re: The last gasp of Finale?

MM has gotten rid of all their 3rd party contractors, like Robert P, who created the Human Playback system. What? That's on a par with Avid's sacking of the Sibelius dev team. Robert also created FinaleScript, and God knows what else. Robert Patterson? Jari, too? We still remain very much focused o...

Re: The last gasp of Finale?

All these are things that Perfect Layout already does. Of course, it's an amazing product, and you deserve to be rewarded for your efforts. But the fact that users need to buy additional tools like PL, TG Tools, Patterson, etc to achieve timely, productive, professional results is not a cause for r...

Re: The last gasp of Finale?

Then I'm a bit puzzled by what you mean by "damaging legacy scores", BuonTempi. I would appreciate it if you could spell it out for me. One of Finale's main virtues is that it can open a document from version 1 in version 26 accurately. If MM were to make significant improvements to the spacing of ...

Re: The last gasp of Finale?

if for some reason you think MakeMusic is dropping everything related to Finale to indulge in this new venture, then maybe you should sit down with a nice stiff drink, and relax a bit. Five years ago, Peaksware/MakeMusic acquired Weezic, a French ' interactive music practice tool'. https://www.busi...

I also have an app that emulates the old Classic Mac OS, so that I can run Finale 2000, and see how much has changed in 20 years. (And how much hasn't.... )

Re: Mac OS Catalina & Finale 2012

I think someone reported running Finale in a Windows virtual machine on their Mac. Then you could run any version of Finale. Or indeed in a VM of an earlier MacOS version. I have Finale 2009, 2011 and 2012 all running in Mountain Lion using Parallels. PS: Admins, we could probably lose the Mojave s...

Yes. There's a setting in the preference panel for selected signatures, and in Engraving Options for the default choice.

I have no idea why but it seems to work.
Rinsing through XML is Support's answer for everything. At best, it cleans up any oddness in the original file's data, and restores various settings to your defaults.

Re: 2014.5 and Catalina

I wish I had exported a buch of files as XML before I upgraded. You can install Mojave onto a USB or Thunderbolt external drive, and boot from there. (If it's a recent Mac with a T2 chip, you'll need to allow external booting first .) Or use a Virtual Machine, like Parallels, to run a separate OS i...

Well, indeed. Vaughan-Williams is full of them in his Tallis Fantasia; though of course not in his hymn tunes.

Apropos of nothing, I'm currently reading Bernstein's superb analysis of Debussy in his lecture series "The Unanswered Question".

I sing in an amateur chorus and see a lot of dreadful voice leading in contemporary pieces Ever sung any of Bach's Tenor lines? And as I commented elsewhere recently: When I write one parallel fifth; it's a naive mistake. Long ago there was a plug-in called Find Parallel Motion. I never used it, and don't know why they removed it. MM removed a bunch of plug-ins a while ago, based on the analytical data that gets sent back to them from the app. As they were rarely used, they were removed to reduce the size of the cod...

This could be huge. What could be potentially huge is the miscalculation. You may have missed the irony in my post. This seems to be some kind of 'portal'. These sorts of things never catch on: I've been involved in several similar projects that planned to 'curate' and project manage various docume...

Have you ever wished that you knew who was practicing the repertoire at home before the big performance? Did you need to make a last-minute edit, but know you will lose valuable time trying to make and send out new PDFs? Have you ever questioned if the ensemble that is about to perform your masterp...

You mean automatically moving the lyric baseline to avoid collisions with notes? Witchcraft! The full TG Tools has some options for moving the lyric baselines when notes are below a certain point on the stave, but it may require some trial to get the result you want. https://www.tgtools.com Th...

Re: Minimal laptop requirements to avoid total frustration

Apologies for not explaining myself clearly, because your chastisement is not really relevant to the point. Finale uses c.103% CPU in Activity Monitor when I playback with No VSTs or 1 VST or 2 VSTs. It always uses 103%. Number of instruments be damned. Always has done on any Intel hardware I've own...

Re: Minimal laptop requirements to avoid total frustration

If one, that’s not a bug. Each instance of a VI uses one core. Multiple instances let the OS balance the load among the cores. Finale pegs 100% of a single core on ANY CPU during playback, regardless of the number of VST/AU units being used. (Even if you're not using any, but playing to Smart Soft ...

Libraries are just data files. Plug-ins are actual code. Bit-ness is only relevant to executable code.

I've seem random floating anchors occasionally, even before v26. I think it's triggered by switching away from Finale and back again, but I've no idea.
