Re: Rests in 6/8. Help!

There is an oddity with this (Mac only I think) which is not a bother in 6/8, but can be annoying in 9/8 and 12/8: dotted minim (half) and dotted crotchet (quarter) rests appear in the wrong order with ‘fill with rests’ in 12/8, while dotted minim appears instead of two dotted crotchets in 9/8. It's...

I don't think Finale 26 and Mojave are compatible, but I don't know what parts of Finale are not supposed to work.
This is from the Finale web-site: ‘Finale v26 is considered compatible and is fully supported with macOS 10.14 Mojave.’ My experience is that it is indeed fully compatible.

Re: how can i do that?? chopin prelude

well you're discussing about chopin which is one of the greatest composers of all times i don't know if you are right , if you were , then the document shouldn't be in all the conservatories with the same notation i believe that editors can't let that happen , a score which is wrong , i think there...

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"

With pencil and paper, I had to perceive all the spacing ahead of time, before proceeding. I think I spent more time "imagining" the score than I did actually penciling it in. Even with pencil, one wanted to avoid unnecessary erasing. With pen (which I never really had professional skill for), the ...

Re: Minor up-dates: F 26.2 to 26.3 & OS10.14 to 10.15?

I've up-dated to 26.3 now on my MacBook and will do the same soon on my desktop Mac. The expert in all things Mac from whom I routinely seek advice suggests that there's no real necessity for me to up-date to Catalina just now.

Minor up-dates: F 26.2 to 26.3 & OS10.14 to 10.15?

I'm thinking of up-dating the OS on my MacBook from Mac OS 10.14 to 10.15 while 10.15 is still easily available, and at the same time up-dating from Finale 26.2 to 26.3. Are there any likely hazards for which I should watch? Will Finale 25.5 also still function on OS 10.15? I expect to leave my desk...

Possibly user error. As you noted, this list is taken from the Score Manager.
After a bit of trial and error, definitely user error.

Finale's misspelling of cue name

This is odd and hardly a disaster, but note Finale's automatic spelling error in the cue name (which transfers to the score/part). Piano LH is correct but it provides the name Paino RH - Oh what a pain! (as it were). Do other people experience the same misspelling? It's trivial, as I usually modify ...

Re: Finale on a portrait monitor?

I regularly use a 24 inch portrait monitor and when I do replace it I expect to do so with a 27 inch high resolution portrait monitor.

If I need it is possible to use my laptop as a second screen, but I haven't done that for years so don't remember exactly how I made it work.

Re: Strange error

This was on Mac, so not quite the same, but the other day I had a Finale file that didn't want to save because Finale couldn't locate where it was supposed to be, but it then invited me to Save As and saved to the right place with the right name without further direction from me. Disconcerting, but ...

Re: Direct playback OK, but saved audio files stutter

Yes, mostly GIFF. I may attempt a fuller explanation with some detail tomorrow, but I've just been listening to a BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Verdi's Don Carlo (1886 version) recorded from the 1996 Proms, with a star-studded cast and the ROH orchestra and chorus, all conducted by Bernard Haitink. As a ...

Re: Direct playback OK, but saved audio files stutter

OK, although I'm pretty sure linking the two computers as described would have worked via Audacity, I realized that I had the means here to do it another way, which seems to have worked, although I haven't yet listened back to quite the whole 66 minutes (most of it, though). Here's how I did it, alt...

Re: Direct playback OK, but saved audio files stutter

I think the only way of doing it internally on a Mac is via Soundflower or similar software; but in the past I've found software of this type problematic (understatement) and safest when avoided altogether. However, I have a short cable with a 3.5mm jack at either end, and a 3.5mm line-in socket on ...

Re: Direct playback OK, but saved audio files stutter

OK, I *think* all I have to do is to connect the output on my MacBook to the input on my MacMini and instruct Audacity to record from that source. I will try later (tomorrow probably) unless someone suggests a better way.

Re: Direct playback OK, but saved audio files stutter

Thanks, I think Audacity should be the answer. I have it installed, but am not immediately sure how to capture Finale's direct playback, although I can probably work that out.

(Buffer size doesn't seem to be the problem)

Direct playback OK, but saved audio files stutter

I don't know if anybody can suggest a solution. Background: I want to prepare a couple of MP3s for a designer to listen to. The two parts of the one piece, part 1 is 26 mins, part 2 is 40. The two files playback directly without any faults or oddities, but exported .aiff files (which I'd then conver...

After some effort and convolutions I was able to get this. I can go through what I did if necessary, but briefly, I entered the demisemiquaver decatuplet and quintuplet on the lower stave, applied special tools to break the beams, selected the first five notes and pressed option-up-arrow, did the sa...

FWIW if you've got different bits of text going back and forth between different singers on many staves (as in an opera), type into score is far easier than click assignment, at least for me. I got into a hopeless muddle with click years ago and don't intend to try it again.

Re: Multiple dots

On my UK keyboard (only slightly different from a US one), if immediately after a note value is entered full stop (period) is pressed twice you get a double dot, three times a triple dot (as in Bruckner) or even four times for a quadruple dot. Finale will then calculated the space and layout to suit...

Re: What is the best mouse pad for note entry?

I expect that for most users speed is of the essence, and therefore the non-mouse methods described above most appropriate. However, when it comes to my making Finale fair-copies from my often very quickly and fluently written pencil sketches, I need to slow down a bit, to assess, even contemplate, ...

Re: What is the best mouse pad for note entry?

Or indeed if you do want to keep doing it with the mouse you can get the cursor close and then quickly move it to the exact vertical position with the up/down arrows. Non-mouse methods, as has been pointed out, are usually much quicker. However, there have been times when it has suited me to use the...
