… … …To fix all the JW plug-ins, type something like: xattr -c /Library/Application\ Support/MakeMusic/Finale\ 26/Plug-ins/JW\ Plug-ins/jw* (...or whatever the actual path is to your JW plug-ins.) Re: Overweight hyphens in cues

I solved this with fixed size as suggested by Zuill, except that as I have a separated file for the linked part I just changed the existing Lyrics Window to an appropriately small fixed size.

Re: Rest groupings (or not)

Don't have an eighth rest cross the beat - probably: circumstances and notations vary, but without seeing the music in question, it would generally be safer to have two sixteenth rests, one either side of the beat. On the beat it should be OK to have one eighth followed by one sixteenth making the t...

I see. A Mac-only issue. Hmmm.
On a Mac (operating OS 10.14) I have the cursor in the repeat selection window but not the thing (how called?) you grab in the scrolling bar, although I can easily scroll with two fingers on the trackpad.

Re: O/T-ish: harp pedals

I wish I knew the answer, but I agree with this. it's not so much to write the pedals in, but to keep track so that what you're writing is playable! I mean, you don't want to arrive and suddenly have 6/7 pedals to reset. With computer software it's easy to offer two versions of the part: one with pe...

Re: Custom stems with Articulations Bug

Out of curiosity I've just listened to the Berio as played by Irvine Arditti. It's an interesting effect, but any attempt at a tremolo would mean the bow would have to be rapidly raised and lowered so first the G & D then the D & A strings were being sounded in rapid alternation while the bow also m...

Re: Strange/Incorrect/Unwanted Behaviour in 12/8

This has been annoying me for years. I use 12/8 and 9/8 (which had an equivalent error, I'm not sure whether it's still there) frequently and have learnt to put up with it (but should probably take the trouble to complain, complain and complain again and again to MM). Motet, I think the copying erro...

Re: Shortcuts for Scrolling?

I don't know how much use this will be for you, finalizer, but if (on a Mac) you key Shift-Command-G and then enter a bar number, Scroll View will go to it (as the first bar in the display) when you hit return. In longer scores scrolling to a precise place without overshooting can be quite difficult...

Re: Printing help

Mullen_Music, I see you are on a Mac. I find two cheap or free applications useful for creating booklets from PDFs. They show in Mac Applications as Create Booklet 2.app and as PDF-BatchBooklet.app and both are very simple to use once you have created a PDF of your Finale file.

Interesting to see this as I've recently been trying to align these markings in a vocal score (always my bête noire).

Re: Remove staff names across score page breaks?

I can't say I've seen that in a printed score. I think (but could be wrong) I have seen this in some of the older editions if the system layout remains the same either throughout or at least for a number of pages and usually also with one system to a page (if more than one, only the top system on t...

I think it's the Symbol Selection dialogue's #103 that is being referred to in the manual. However your best solution is as described above.

Re: Graphics problems with Finale 26.3

If I was starting from scratch with computer music typesetting I expect I might well choose Dorico, but I doubt very much that it would be worth my while to change to it at present unless Finale collapses completely. Yes, Finale can be infuriating and frustrating; but doesn't that apply to computers...

Yes, is my answer, but a suitable gesture from the conductor might help in first rehearsal. BTW I think ed accel. might be more idiomatic than e accel.

Re: Adding natural sign (accidental)

One way is in Speedy Entry to place the cursor on the F and then press letter 'a' on the keyboard. That will reveal the accidental that would apply to the note if visible, which in this case is a natural. You can also press * (asterisk) but that can have unintended consequences, so safer to use the ...

Re: Staves reorder for a portion of the document

FWIW I place voices above mandolin, harps, keyboards & strings in that order, but I also know that this is not strictly conventional, although it works, causes nil confusion and is never questioned.
