Re: The ties are off...
I have noticed similar beginning and ending tie position issues in Finale 25.5, and I am on Mac OS 10.12.6 and have my tie settings at the defaults. Since it is not constant but situational, changing the settings might improve a few bad ones, but throw off the ones that are well-positioned. I would ...

Re: Replacing articulations etc with a metatool double-tap
Thanks, HaraldS. There it is, as plain as day in the documentation. And the "add again" capability sounds intriguing as well. Could be time to read through the documentation for some other tips I've missed along the way!

Re: Replacing articulations etc with a metatool double click
You're right, motet, "clicking" is confusing. I had wondered about the word choice. I went back and edited it with the "double-tapping."
But did you know this trick? I could find nothing about it in the documentation.

Replacing articulations etc with a metatool double-tap
This is probably known to everyone in the Finale world but me, but just in case there is another user out there who doesn't know this trick: if one selects a articulation or expression handle, one can replace the marking in place by double-tapping the appropriate metatool. For example, say one has i...

Re: Question about Pedal number
It is generally assumed to be an abbreviation for "use the two pedals" in French, that is, the sustaining and soft pedals, since the sostenuto pedal was not yet available. Its something like Schumann's simple Ped. indication at the beginning of a piece to mean that the sustaining pedal was to be emp...

Re: Piano music bar numbers
I agree with motet and David Ward. All scholarly and urtext editions of piano music (and everything else) now have them, and it is nothing but helpful. As suggested, they can be placed inconspicuously above the beginning of the upper staff. They don't even have to be that small. One used to see them...

Re: Accidentals carrying through the measure
I've also run into this with otherwise knowledgable musicians, who will argue that an accidental affects all octaves until one points out the opposite in a book on standard notational practice. The reason is probably that in real life either the accidentals are all present or there are precautionary...

Re: Cross-beam angle
It's a pretty standard way to show a slow unmeasured rolled chord in harp and keyboard music. So the 7 is not necessary. The small notes might be a little smaller and take up less of the measure, though.

I also use "for piano". In the educational field they sometimes say "Intermediate Piano Solo". I think "pianoforte" went out around 1900.

Anchor Indicator Lines When Dragging is a new one on me, David. Can't imagine what it does but will investigate.
Anyway, I am glad that you can now make access this capability in Page View. I find it invaluable.

Re: When one in four isn't good enough
I don't think I have any special settings for smart shapes that would affect this. The only way I found that it did not work is if I carry the end point of the hairpin down outside the margin. I can even draw the hairpin any length on the first line, release the mouse button and then select the red ...

Re: When one in four isn't good enough
I can confirm that on a Mac hairpins do not seems able to be drawn over system breaks in page view. David, I work entirely in page view and constantly draw hairpins (and various other smart shapes) over system breaks. But it is generally piano music. Hold down the mouse button to the end of the fir...

Re: Whole measure accidental in Speedy
I use it all the time because I rely on scanning for note input, since I am only editing in Finale right now. Accidentals are sometimes omitted in the scanning process.motet wrote:I'm curious why someone would need this except very occasionally.

P.S.: if you don't want to recreate your preferences, you could try to create 2 menu shortcuts using the System Preferences of the Mac or Keyboard Maestro. Thanks, michelp. That had occurred to me, since I use KM extensively. I had also researched correcting or modifying the Speedy keyboard shortcu...

Re: Whole measure accidental in Speedy
I am on a Mac. I have always used the numeric keypad to apply accidentals from that point on to the end of the measure in Speedy. It has always been Option - or Option +. As I mentioned, it works like that in earlier versions of Finale that I have and it worked like that in my copy of Finale 25.5 un...

Re: natural sign above staff
Nice point Anders. As you know, the Schenkerian view is that the two tones that lead most naturally to the tonic for endings are the "upper leading tone" (supertonic) and the "lower leading tone" (leading tone). They fortunately form a consonance so that two people can sing them together to produce ...

Re: Whole measure accidental in Speedy
Thanks, Motet. i should have said that this has been a problem for a week or so. So rebooting wouldn't appear to be a solution. Being faint of heart and having so many preferences to restore, I think I'll take a rain check on the other suggestion. Anyone else have a idea? If not, I'll just totter on...

Whole measure accidental in Speedy
Suddenly the key command Option-accidental has stopped working in Speedy in Finale 25.5 only. Nothing happens when I try to use it. It does work from the Speedy menu. I've tested it in a Finale Default File so it doesn't seem to be a corrupted file. Single note accidentals are working normally. The ...

Re: Creating multi-jointed slurs
I agree with N in that it is the rest of your spacing that is forcing the slur into a non-standard shape. In well-engraved music the slurs maintain simple gentle arcs unless there is a really pressing reason not to, as in the famous Ravel example above. This having been said, the post again illustra...
