Re: Troubles with 2014.5 vs. 25

Got it. Thanks! All of a sudden my PDFs started opening with Adobe, which I didn't want, so I learned this same trick in regards to reverting to have them open with Preview.

Re: Troubles with 2014.5 vs. 25

That may have been true, but I made sure to quit 2014.5 and take it off my dock, and then when I'd reopen the files, they'd automatically open with 2014.15. In the past, a new version would always supersede the older one, but that seems not to be the case here. My earlier question remains: how can y...

Troubles with 2014.5 vs. 25

Is there some way that Finale visually distinguishes between files made with 2014.5 and 25? They both still have the suffix .musx, so there is no way to tell from that. I have in the last day lost a fair amount of work because I believe that I have opened and am editing a file in Finale 25, and then...

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking

OK You all convinced me. I'm now using Engraver for the note and the number. Thanks!

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking

Thanks! Maybe it's a built-in issue with using Maestro for the font for the note, because even using your suggested method, I end up with the dot looking like a period. But when I start a new piece from scratch, I'll use a different font for this, but I didn't want to have to redo everything in the ...

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking

Thank you for your help! I adjusted the baseline, and that worked fine.

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking

If you create your tempo mark as an expression in the category Tempo Marks, there's a popup for choosing the font for correct elements of the marking. I use Minion Pro for the text and Engraver Text for the metronome marking. Using this method you can type everything normally, including the dot. Ri...

This is actually what I did, but each time I selected the dotted quarter, it would change the font from Maestro to Engraver, and by the time I got it back to Maestro, the position of the dot had changed, too. Weird, I know.

dotted quarter in tempo marking

I'm editing an old score of mine again. In including a note as part of the tempo marking, there used to be a keyboard way to enter a dotted quarter note, but now the option is only "insert note". That should be fine, but the dot is not like a normal dot--it's like a period, at the bottom right of th...

Re: Everything disappears when dragging staves to respace

So it isn't strange that it happens only in some scores but not in others?

Everything disappears when dragging staves to respace

In some scores, when I drag staves to move them closer or farther apart, I can still see the notes and everything while I am doing it. In other scores, the notes and everything completely disappear while I am dragging and then redraw when I am finished. This is particularly irritating, since without...

Re: Collisions of accidentals with notes in other layers

Thank you, all. I will play around with your suggestions. One thing that is puzzling/bothering me is that I have never had this problem before--at least not in my modern history--and I have been copying music on Finale since 1989. Does anyone have an idea what makes this different? Also, I just deci...

Collisions of accidentals with notes in other layers

I'm having trouble that I don't remember having for many years: Accidentals in one layer are colliding with notes in another; notes in one layer are colliding with dots (as in adding value dots) in another. I've checked my settings in Document Options, and they look correct to me, but I must be doin...

Regarding notes in layer 2 moving

I am editing a score originally copied in 1998, but now on Finale 2014a. I painstakingly adjusted many, many notes in adjacent layers which, somehow, had moved: things that are a second apart had shifted so that they were far apart, instead of being right next to each other. I can't tell you how lon...
