Ties and notes in different layers

In the attached file, is there a way I can get the ties in layer 2 in measures 9 & 11 not to obscure the notes happening at the same time in layer 1?

Thanks,

Re: Weird backwards ties

You forgot to attach your file. Make sure the notes you want to tie are in the same layer. First try deleting the backward ties and recreating them. As a last resort, the tie tool will allow you to drag them backwards, but I would try to find out what's wrong first. Thanks! I had done all of those ...

Weird backwards ties

Can anyone tell me why in m. 11, piano left hand, the ties are going the wrong direction—and how I can fix them? I entered them exactly as I did in measures 10 and 12, and those look exactly as I want them to. Why wouldn't they look the same?

Re: Setting Enclosures in Rehearsal Marks Category

It would, but again, are you sure you need a lot of different rehearsal marks? I believe auto-sequence can be made to work for you (you can start at other than A, as I said), and it's a lot easier to apply them since you can define a single metatool. I'll definitely apply that to the next piece. Th...

Re: Setting Enclosures in Rehearsal Marks Category

If you have a rehearsal mark already defined that has an enclosure, merely duplicate it and make any necessary edits to the definition of the duplicate mark. Zuill Thanks! That's what I did. It was easy enough to do, but it still seems odd to me that you can't just set it in advance for all Rehears...

Re: Setting Enclosures in Rehearsal Marks Category

Thanks, all, for your help!

It would be nice if Finale would enable setting the enclosure in advance as part of the Edit Rehearsal Marks category!

Setting Enclosures in Rehearsal Marks Category

Is there no way to edit the Rehearsal Marks Category so that all new rehearsal marks automatically have an enclosure around them? I can't find that option when I choose Rehearsal Marks: Edit Categories. That seems crazy, so I must be missing something. I'm having to duplicate one that I have already...

Re: Spacing issues

I think both measures are the result of Finale thinking there's not enough room. Try moving the barlines on either side of measure 15. In measure 28, you'll perhaps have to resort to messing with the beat chart. Thanks, motet. That definitely works. I'm puzzled, though, that Finale doesn't spread t...

Spacing issues

A few years ago, I hired someone to make a piano reduction of songs for voice and 11 instruments. I'm finally editing it and find that I have had to rewrite much of it. That's OK, but the resulting file is full of spacing issues: clashes of accidentals with notes, particularly, but other spacing pro...

Right-click on the dynamic, pick "edit assignment," and uncheck "scale with attached note."
Yay! That was easy. Many thanks, motet!

How to keep tempo mark from reducing in size due to a cue

In m. 139 of the attached, in the saxophone part, there is a "poco rit.", but because there is also a cue there which is reduced to 75%, the "poco rit." is inappropriately reduced in size. I don't want that; I want it to match in size all of the other tempo markings and adjustments. If I click "fixe...

Opinions about placement of tempo markings?

In the attached song for flute, voice, and piano, I have chosen to have the tempo markings show above the flute and piano staves but not above the voice staff, as it looks really cluttered if I have them above the flute, voice, and piano. The flute will not be playing from this score, but from a par...

Hallelujah! Just changing the meter to 37/16 did the trick.

Re: Smart Shapes Won't Stay Put

I counted the note values, and there are 37 16th notes value in the measure, so 9/4 misses the mark. Add the extra 16th note value per my suggestion to fix the problem. How did you arrive at 9/4? Zuill The truth is that I copied this piece so long ago that I don't remember how I did, and it wasn't ...

Smart Shapes Won't Stay Put

In m. 10 of the attached, the trill symbol and the hairpins will not stay as I place them. The trill should be directly above the A flat half note, and the crescendo should begin at the beginning of the notes with the expanding beams and last until the forte symbol, and the decrescendo should be bet...

Re: Measure Number Regions Won't Display Correctly

One thing to try as far as the numbering itself is to Click the Style list and choose 1 2 3 4 again. That usually resets the numbering to the chosen starting number. Do this for each region. Then, since it appears the first region has the correct settings for number font and position, use Jari's JW...

Re: Measure Number Regions Won't Display Correctly

I don't quite understand your numbering scheme (normally it would be numbered from beginning to end), but I deleted all but the first region and recreated the others (with Add) and set their starting number to 1. File attached. I think someone discovered recently that if you try to change one of th...

Measure Number Regions Won't Display Correctly

I *always* dread having to do measure number regions, because they just never seem to work, and it consumes a huge amount of time, when it should be so automatic. These are the problems I am having: 1. Each region resets the font and the position to something I don't want, so I have to re-enter that...
