Copying and Pasting with different key signatures

I'm trying to combine two movements into one file. Score Merger made a mess out of things, so I thought it would be nice and easy to copy and paste the second movement onto the end of the first. I checked in advance to make sure that EVERYTHING would be copied, including key signatures. Alas, the cl...

Re: Missing word extension

Motet, Sorry. In my revised file, I only fixed the occurrence mentioned in the original post. I have now revised my revision of the file to get rid of those other 2 Smart Lines. Zuill Thank you, Zuill. I really don't understand this, as I had removed those Smart Lines before I sent the file with th...

Re: Cursor has transformed into something unusable

Well, damn! It's a year and a half since I posted this, and now I have a brand-new computer, and it's happening again. Instead of a cursor, I get a plus sign with a tiny eighth note in the upper right quadrant. I used Finale all day long without this happening, but very late in the day, the weird cu...

Re: Missing word extension

When I open your file, Smart Word Extensions is not checked. Anyway, this appears to be based on a file from Finale 97. Often old files behave differently from years of changes in Finale. Having said all that, the real cause is found with the Measure Tool. Double click that measure (25) and you'll ...

Re: Missing word extension

There looks to be a file extension in m. 26 but it's a red smart-shape line--was that added by hand? Measure 43 is missing an extension as well. This looks to have been created in an ancient version of Finale. If you make a new file and copy the old one it, the word extension works, but that of cou...

Missing word extension

In the attached score, I have ONE word that needs a word extension but which doesn't have one. It's in mm. 25-26, on the second syllable of "ruedas". I do have Use Smart Word Extensions selected, and they appear everywhere else that they are needed. If I try adjusting with "Adjust Word Extensions" i...

Deauthorize or uninstall Finale from old computer

I just bought and set up a new iMac. Do I need to do something to let the MakeMusic people know that I am 100% decommissioning the old computer so that I won't have any trouble authorizing Finale 26 on my new computer? I find several articles online in regards to this with Windows systems, but not M...

Re: Page margin & margin windows won't open where I want

I got a response from David at Finale regarding this issue. He tested it and said that it is a bug that he has now reported, which happens only when multiple files are opened. Well, here it is a year and a half later, and this is still happening, and it happens for me EVERY time I am toggling betwe...

Re: Score Merger Woes

There's a measure attribute "Begin a new staff system." The other thing you can do is attach the expression to the first measure of the new movement, and center it on the page with a horizontal offset (I can give you a formula for computing that offset if you like). . Motet, I'd welcome that formul...

Thanks! Enter and tabbing didn't work, but clicking on Style did. I am relieved that all of my problems in this piece are solved (I hope!).

Re: Measure Region Numbering

Aha! I just discovered that it doesn't make "1" the start number for a region until you click on "style", even if what you want is the default thing displayed there. That's pretty silly, isn't it?

Measure Region Numbering

I am trying to set four different measure-number regions in this piece, each to start with the number 1. I have each one properly set, but no matter that I set the starting number at "1", the measure numbers don't respond to that and are continuous throughout all four regions. I'm attaching a screen...

Re: Score Merger Woes

I would start each movement on a new staff system. And most people put a label between the movements (e.g. "IV"). Then you can use a measure attribute to turn off the cautionary key change (and perhaps time singature change) at the end of the previous movement. You'll want "Time signatures: always ...

Re: Score Merger Woes

I spoke just a bit too soon. I have one case, at the beginning of the fourth movement, where the key signature is showing as cancelling with naturals the previous measure, along with the new key signature. I don't want those naturals there, but I also don't want to turn off that feature for the whol...

Re: Score Merger Woes

I know linked parts is an important feature. However, another option is to extract parts and merge each individual part. 90 minutes wasn't necessarily wasted. It yielded an important lesson, maybe, in what doesn't work, which hopefully will lead to what does work. By the way, we used to copy/paste ...

Score Merger Woes

In order to make a set of parts for a 4-movement piece, I merged the movements into 1 document. After spending an hour and a half adding cues and doing other editing, I realized that the merging of the files wreaked havoc. The instrumentation (ob 1, ob 2, clar, bass clar, bsn 1, bsn 2, ten sax, hn 1...

Re: Can't get seconds on same stem to align correctly

With Windows, I use the Selection Tool to highlight the portion of the measure with just the notes to be moved. I then hold Shift and Alt and press the Up arrow. You'll have to find the keys to use for Mac. Zuill Aha! It's clearly much easier with Windows to select just certain notes in a measure. ...
