Re: Can't get seconds on same stem to align correctly

I use Finale 25. I cleared all the mess created by trying to do this manually, and did the cross staff notation using the plugin, and all looks well. Try the plugin and see if that is what you want. In the old days, we didn't have the plugin, so doing it manually was the only way. Thank goodness fo...

Can't get seconds on same stem to align correctly

In the attached piece, the very last measure (m. 38), b. 3, in the harp, I am unable to get the notes of the chord in the upper staff to line up correctly. I entered all of the notes on the lower staff, used cross staffing to move the chords in the right hand to the upper staff, used the reverse ste...

Re: Frustration with Tuplets

Inches or centimeters? The settings I posted above seem to work well for me. I'm using inches. I think I have figured it out, but I don't really understand it. I've just fiddled with the numbers until it looks the way I want, and I realize that I have to make some manual adjustments of the slant of...

Re: Frustration with Tuplets

It probably would be helpful to see how I have things set for tuplets.

Re: Frustration with Tuplets

I'm still struggling with these tuplets. After being out of town for 5 days, I came back to this and realized it was going to be easier to just redo all of the bracketed triplets in this piece, and so I tried getting the settings right in Document Options for tuplets. I've gotten pretty close, but I...

Re: Frustration with Tuplets

Check "Enhanced Tuplets" (called "Engraver Tuplets" in my version) and pick "Never bracket beamed notes on beam side." Thanks, again! That got it much closer to what it should be. I had to drag 2 of the brackets so that they were on the opposite side, but they were facing the right direction this t...

Re: Frustration with Tuplets

That is odd. Can you run it again on the file you attached above (which I used) and double-check the settings? Make sure white boxes are really white (not half-filled) and checked boxes are really checked. I just did, and it turned out the same as before. Damn! I'll attach the Change Tuplet Utility...

Re: Harp Pedal Notation

One way to to it: Make a duplicate copy of the Finale document. Open the duplicate copy, and delete all the other expressions from the the Expression Selection so that only the Harp Expressions are left. File menu > Save Library… Give your Harp Expression library a name, and a place (folder) to liv...

Re: Frustration with Tuplets

I used the Change Tuplet utility and set them to what I use. See what you think. Thanks! Your version looks fine to me, but I used the Change Tuplet utility, too, and made sure I had it set the same as you did. The attached is what I got: One of the brackets that was on the note side stayed put, an...

… … …David, do you have a way to copy your Harp expression category from one file to another?… … In the file from which you wish to copy, while in the Expression Designer select a harp pedalling and then Edit, then select all the expression shown in the edit window and key copy (Command C). Now go ...

Frustration with Tuplets

I'm editing a piece in which many tuplet brackets/numbers are on the wrong side of the notes. I have it clearly set for them to be on the stem/beam side, but inexplicably, they are sometimes on the note side. If I try to manually move them to the other side, I have to also manually change the direct...

Re: Harp Pedal Notation

… … … Any ideas about what I am doing wrong? Yes, but my fault. I'd forgotten that one needs to reduce the line spacing to 50% (or thereby). You can get to the Line Spacing menu by typing shift/command/L. Or while in the Expression Designer click on the Text menu in the top menu bar and scroll to L...

Re: Harp Pedal Notation

Would this (screenshot) be acceptable to you? I added a Harp Category to expressions and then used Engraver Text T font, and on a Mac typed shift/command plus S F or N for the accidentals. Both rows are the one expression, so there's no apparent problem with vertical space. I'm getting enough verti...

Re: Harp Pedal Notation

The diagrams are a bit tough to do. As far as the text approach, I find that easy. I'm not sure why yours don't look right. How are you doing them? Maybe your approach needs to be refined. I enter the letters normally, then the accidentals with Crtl-Shift S, B and N. Zuill Is that, by chance, a Win...

Harp Pedal Notation

It was so easy during the days of copying with pencil or ink to either draw in a harp pedal diagram or just write letter names, but doing it on Finale seems anything but easy to me. I traditionally just used letter names and accidentals, but putting all 7 of those in a text box--or as an expression-...

Re: Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

Was your notice created in a font you currently have installed? The © symbol is created by typing Option g on a Mac (as I did just now). Yes, that was all entered as I have done so for decades. © The problem, as I learned from this thread, was that I didn't ever know that the copyright notice was e...

Re: Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

It seems to update it with manual typing, too. I don't remember the issue you're referring too, only the situation that if you select all in the text box, what you then type or paste doesn't replace the text in the box (removing the insert and inserting what you type), but rather the text in the in...

Re: Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

Perhaps this is a Mac thing, because even if you don't know about the Score Manager insert, you should be able to paste into the text box itself (which replaces the Score Manager string). Works on Windows, copyright symbol or not. I wonder. It still seems like a strange thing, not to be able to pas...
