Re: Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

The copyright notice in the Score Info has been there since I've started using Finale. And if you want to insert that copyright text anywhere, you can use it's insert when the Text Tool is selected (Text > Inserts > Copyright Text) I believe you, but I have been using Finale since December of 1989,...

Re: Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

zuill wrote:Did you make the changes in the File Info page of the Score Manager?

Zuill
No, that is not something I have ever heard of having to do in almost 30 years of using Finale. Is it a new thing that the copyright info is included in the Score Manager?

Thanks,

Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

I wanted to replace a copyright that says © 2000 Mark Carlson with a more complete version: © 2000 Mark Carlson (BMI) All rights reserved. http://www.markcarlsonmusic.com I copied the new version from another piece and was going to update just the date, but no matter how many times I try, it just re...

Re: Expression lines not showing

In the older default files, the rit. had an opaque background. It could be you copied and modified that, and thus those that used the rit. as a starting point have the opaque background as well. The lines do still show for me, even for those with the opaque background, so it might be just the way M...

Re: Expression lines not showing

I can't find one that doesn't have the line showing. Even the ones with an opaque background. Again, this might be one of the differences between Win and Mac. All the expressions work as expected for me. Maybe you could point out one that doesn't work for you and I can test it. Otherwise, all the l...

Re: Expression lines not showing

Mark, Just a wild guess: Take a look in the View menu. What are the settings for Grids and Guides? By The Way: You can adjust the vertical positioning “manually” by (drag-)selecting the expression handle, and hitting Shift-Return. This will take you to the Expression Assignment where you can set th...

Re: Expression lines not showing

I get a horizontal dashed line, as well as a vertical dashed line. I get this in both the Expression Tool and the Selection Tool. Zuill Strange! I wish I were. I just quit and restarted Finale, just in case that would help, but it didn't. I am getting the horizontal and vertical lines with dynamics...

Expression lines not showing

As usual with my questions, I am editing a piece done years ago, and a strange thing is happening: Normally (and for as long as I can remember), when I click on the handle for any expression, a horizontal line shows up, allowing me to place the expression in line with others. In this piece, that is ...

Re: Spacing in pickup measure

Thanks, Vaughan. In fact, that's what I already did: the meter is 6/8 and the pickup is a dotted quarter, so I set the meter as 3/8 and set it to show differently as 6/8. Alas, it's still spacing it as if it is an entire measure of 6/8 instead of half that.

Spacing in pickup measure

I'm preparing the attached piece for publication. I wrote it and originally copied it in 1995, when either pickup measures were harder to do than they are now, or I didn't understand properly how to do them. So originally I entered them as just incomplete measures and dragged the barline to make it ...

Re: Unwanted non-Capitalization in Parts Name

Thank you, Gareth! It's all fixed now. I'm guessing that the composer of the piece, for whom I am doing the editing, didn't quite know what he was doing when he originally created the parts 20 years ago. I'll pass on your advice.

With appreciation,

Unwanted non-Capitalization in Parts Name

I'm editing a set of parts, and the parts names--those that are generated by "Score" in the upper left corner, by default--in the parts themselves are showing up with the initial letters in lower case. I want them to be capitalized, but I can't figure out why the lower case thing is happening. In bo...

Re: Things keep moving

You need each one of these 4 boxes to be individually adjustable for size. They can be, but with Shape Expressions like these you need to enter each one with a Metatool shortcut. That way, each is a separate entity, unlinked from the others. If you enter them the other way, via the palette, they ar...

Re: Things keep moving

Thanks! "Automatic Music Spacing" was selected. I'll de-select it and try again. "Update Automatically" for multimeasure rests is already de-selected. It occurred to me, too, that the easiest solution might be just to create a separate file for each part, so that editions in one won't affect the oth...

Things keep moving

In the attached file, which I am using for parts for this piece, I have some spatial notation that has boxes around one measure of notes in each part, followed by a heavy line, indicating that it's supposed to be played for 8". Measures 63-67 In each part, I carefully set the box so it fits perfectl...

Re: Page numbers' mysterious placement

Got it. You're right. I just compared it to another string quartet score, also reduced to 75%, and the page numbers were just as in the one I attached. For some reason, it didn't bother me at the time! Now it does, so I will adjust the page number placement.

Thanks Motet and Zuill!

Re: Page numbers' mysterious placement

This doesn't happen on any of my other pieces, and they are all set the same way. I always set them to be measured from the page edge, because then it's always consistent, and the percentage reduction doesn't normally place them differently. But this time it's different. I wish I understood why.

Page numbers' mysterious placement

In the attached piece, I have the page numbers set to be .55" from the left and right edges of the page and .4" below the top of the page. The page margins are set for .35" for top and bottom and .55" for left and right. These settings are the same as I use for all of my pieces now. The page numbers...

Re: Spatial Notation, wavy lines, etc.

I've made some progress, as you can see from the attached Finale file. The music in question is on p. 3, mm. 63-67. One annoying problem remains: In the viola, m. 64, I have used a staff style that is supposed to eliminate the barline at the end of the measure in that staff only. The barline is stil...
