Re: Retranscribe

If you're entering music manually, then you don't really need to concern yourself with MIDI data. If you try importing a MIDI file or enter music in real time using hyperscribe, however, the results can be less that satisfactory depending on how Finale interprets the data it receives. One function o...

Re: Latest Finale

Figures they'd have a sale right after I upgraded.

For me consolidated rests and accidentals in layers was finally enough of a reason to upgrade from 2010b.

Re: simple Entry without using 'Layers'

The most tedious thing for me with layers is forgetting to switch back to layer 1 and entering a whole bunch of music before realizing I'm in the wrong layer. It's easy enough to fix, but kills my flow.

Working with a lot of guitar and piano music, layers are the way to go.

Re: Untie to the previous note

In simple entry just click on the first note of the tied pair or use the arrow keys to navigate to the note then hit the t key on the qwerty keyboard or the / key on the number pad. From the second note of the tied pair you can use shift t or ctrl (number pad) /. Either one will toggle a tie on and ...

Re: Piano bass

Highlight the effected measures and hit the 9 key on the top number row for octave up. Hit the 8 key for octave down.

That worked as far back as I can remember.

motet wrote:Again, you've got the simple entry palette in the way. Move that and maybe it will be ok.

Even with the pallets moved the initial display cuts off the names.

Re: Notating Jazz Chords for Piano

Thanks everybody for the input. There are lots of charts for this tune posted... but in actuality there's only one or two variations. I have never seen anything but a lead sheet posted; never the actual piano notation. And yes, every version I've seen puts it in F minor rather than Eb minor. I'm bas...

Notating Jazz Chords for Piano

I'm putting together an arrangement of Charles Mingus' Goodbye Pork Pie Hat for piano and clarinet. The key signature is Eb minor (six flats), but the chords go all over the place. I originally notated each chord based on root note function and chord type which resulted in a lot of enharmonic accide...
