Re: How to add automatically octaves to a passage?

What do you mean by 4 transposition metatools? Are those the numbers 6, 7, 8, 9 that you can use to transpose by step or octave? If not, what are you thinking of?

Re: Import Libraries

Libraries are a way from keeping Finale documents from getting bloated. Basically, the expressions, dynamics, articulations, etc. are document specific and are not applied to all Finale documents. If each of these documents had all these, the size of even an empty document would get unwieldy. It wou...

Finale 26 Icon Fix

Anyone else think that the new icon is a huge eyesore? Or already downloaded the demo and now the old icon is gone? Here's a fix! I attached a modified version of the new icon to so it looks 5x better (more or less. The number is arbitrary). Additionally, here's how to fix the icon on a Mac once and...

Finale 26 and Expression/Articulation Tool

I downloaded Finale 26 to try it out. With Finale 25, to enter an expression without a hotkey you double click and the expression dialogue box comes up. With Finale 26, it defaults to putting down arco. Now, I cannot enter a tempo marking of any sort. A similar thing happens articulations. The defau...

Re: OT question, regarding dedications

Similar things aren't unheard of. Each movement of Elgar's enigma variations is dedicated to a different person.

I've believe I've also played a Tichelli piece where the middle slow movement was dedicated to a particular person while the entire piece was dedicated to the performer.

Thanks Zuill. That would do it. Any ideas how to do things like enharmonic spellings in the parts still?

No Speedy Entry in Parts

So lately I've not been able to access speedy entry in the linked parts on some documents. I haven't really worried about it because I haven't needed to use it until now. I can't find any pattern between the files that I can't use speedy entry in the parts because even brand new files will have diff...

I've also just did a quick arrangement from start to finish on Mojave with Finale 25. I didn't notice any bugs whatsoever. Can't comment on any pervious version.

Are you working in scroll view? I use a trackpad on a MacBook Pro and in scroll view I have similar things happening. In page view, however, scrolling works as I would expect.

Re: Smart shapes and breaking MM rests

Could there be hidden whole rests?

Also, if that doesn't work, you can manually make and break the multimeasure rests. Edit > Multimeasure Rests

Re: Smart shapes and breaking MM rests

The easy way to add real whole rests is to use the Plug-in.

Highlight the measures

Plug-ins > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Change to Real Whole Rests

Score List 2, 3, 4…

Does anyone have experience using Score Lists beyond Score List 1?

I've tried using it just now and every time I select another score list, the expressions category resets to Score List 1. It would be nice to have multiple score lists.

Add Rests to Layer 3

Does anyone know how to add rests to layer 3 (or a layer other than 1)? Basically, I'm looking for something kind of like the "Change to Real Whole Rests" plug-in but for other layers. The context is that I like writing two instruments on one staff (e.g. Flute 1/2) yet have their own parts (i.e. Flu...

Re: Best way to resize busy gliss. notes

If you use JW Lua, I'd recommend Jari's harp gliss script for this:

You just have to insert a 7-tuplet and then run the script. Everything is formatted correctly.

Re: Batch musx to pdf

You're on a Mac, so figuring something out using Keyboard Maestro or Automator shouldn't take too long to do. Automator is even built in to a Mac.

Both of these are designed to automate repetitive tasks like batch creation of PDF files.

Re: Default Show/Hide for Expressions

Hi Michael,

I can figure out how to do that for items like Tempo Markings. I'm currently entering these expressions as technique text because they belong to the staff, not the system.

How can I do this for technique text?

Default Show/Hide for Expressions

For my orchestra scores, I like to often have two parts on the same line (e.g. flute 1/2) in the score. I also like to split this single staff into two parts using Manage Parts > Specify Voicing. This means, though, that in the score I need to input expressions like "1.", "2.", "a2", etc. so the con...

Re: Unis/Div notation question

In my experience, you don't need to write anything. String players will assume it's unison. If you want to write something, I'd write "unis." over "(unis.)", "unison", or "(unison)". It's the shortest variation that gets the point across. A couple of years ago, I read these two blog post on Tim Davi...

I would not use either of those slurs. Definitely using two slurs in that situation is more information that what you would need. I would slur from the first note to the end of the tied note.

Re: Slu issue

For choral music, I wouldn't be surprised if the double slur is to show a melisma in both voices. I'm not terribly versed in choral music, but that would make sense to me. My personal opinion is to have as little ink as possible on the page. Everything on the page is something that a player/conducto...
