Re: How do I make my own shortcuts?

For simple shortcuts, I do what Miker suggests using System Preferences. For the ones that don't work, if I want more logic, or I want more complicated shortcuts, I use Keyboard Maestro to create macros. https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/ It's decently cheap and the macros I use save me hours eac...

Here's the formula for the horizontal offset. "1. Expression Alignment Point: Center 2. Measure Alignment Point: Left Barline 3. Additional Horizontal Offset: (distance between margins / 2 - indent) / system scaling System scaling can be found in Options/Page Format. For system scaling of 85%, for e...

Re: Unable to copy and paste copyright notice

The copyright notice in the Score Info has been there since I've started using Finale.

And if you want to insert that copyright text anywhere, you can use it's insert when the Text Tool is selected (Text > Inserts > Copyright Text)

New JW Plug-in and some Updates

Hi Everyone, It looks like Jari recently created a new plug-in for reflowing measures evenly across the selected systems (JW Fit Music). It can be used to get rid of that pesky last system with only a couple measures on it. He also updated JW Validate and JW Pattern. http://www.finaletips.nu/index.p...

Re: Finale running slow

Does this happen constantly?

I think there is a memory leak somewhere in the Finale code. This occasionally happens for me and I need to hard restart to get it working again.

Re: Spoken word/rap notation

There's multiple ways you can do this. One of my favorites for X notes (or even simply rhythm notation) is using staff styles. There's even one for X noteheads and if you change the rhythm the noteheads will stay as Xs. You can also try the JW Change plug-in if you have a huge chunk of music that yo...

Re: Tuning 2 Pianos Quarter Tone apart

I believe since the ratio for quarter tones is 1.0293, the tuning for the second piano is either 452.39 or 427.47 (depending if you're going higher or lower. I don't think Finale can play quarter tones as is. There's probably some sound library out there that can do it. I know that https://noteperfo...

Re: Garageband

Hi Stephen,

According to their website, you can. And you can even use their prerecorded loops. You may not redistribute their loops as loops (i.e. you can use them in a larger composition but not on their own).

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Peter. I was expecting that to be the case but thought I'd reach out on the off chance that there was a way. I ended up just converting the font I like to an all-caps font.

Re: How to start a stave , e.g. "voice" at a specific bar

Definitely try out Miker's suggestion. If that doesn't work, try using some Staff Styles. Staff Style 13. Force Hide Staff (Collapse) will also achieve your result. Finally, if Miker's suggestion works and bar 13 starts in the middle of the system, you might also consider using Staff Style 12. Force...

Re: No Vibrato

I would personally recommend NotePerformer. It has the option to turn off vibrato for strings as well as have variable levels of vibrato. You can download it for free with a 30-day trial to see if you like it before you buy it. The current price is $129, so there are more expensive libraries that mi...

Re: Playback in wrong octaves.

Glockenspiels transpose 2 octaves lower than written. Starting with Finale 25, there's the option to keep instruments with octave transpositions transposed when the score is in concert pitch. So while Finale displays other instruments in concert pitch, it still transposes instruments like glockenspi...

All Caps Text

Is there a setting in Finale for all caps styling?

Right now, I'm trying to get a document setup so I can have the info text like the title always be in all caps rather than having to type the title in all caps manually.

Thanks

I ran it for fun on one of my pieces and it certainly caught some inconsistencies.

Definitely would recommend trying it out. It may not be right for everyone, but it's really good at what it does.

Transposing the chords works. Thanks!

When I played with it, changing the key doesn't change chords already copied into the drum part. However, it does change the interval that any new chords are transposed by.

Re: Chords on Drum Set Wrong Transposition

Here's a test file. I took the original file and then deleted everything that was irrelevant so there aren't any distractions. After playing around a little bit, I found that the reason for a M2 shift was because I was in the key of Bb. The interval seems to be connected to the key. In C everything ...

Chords on Drum Set Wrong Transposition

Hi everyone, I'm working on an arrangement right now, and the person wants me to write the chords on the drum set part. When I copy the chords into the set part, they become transposed up a whole step. The part is the default drum set from the setup wizard. I double checked that there isn't a transp...

Re: Need to do a hard reset on Finale on Windows...

Sometimes there's a process that continues to run either because the system forgot to stop it or it's buggy. Furthermore, after using your computer for a while, these things can start to add up. Rebooting will clear all these hanging processes. Also, some software just needs a reboot to install comp...
