Re: Can't Change Instruments or Sounds
I increasingly experienced a similar problem and got tired of changing channels (which I often exhausted because only 8 are permitted per bank); so I upgraded to v26. So far so good. Try changing channels for the instruments in Score Manager. Select "Next Available" from the drop-down menu. If you h...

New custom library files needed for upgrade?
I just upgraded from v2012c to v26 and am unable to get Finale to recognize my custom library files. Does the latest version not support library files created in v2012?

Playback of some instruments lost
If I copy a document from the SSD drive on my laptop to an external USB HDD then playback of most instruments in a score is lost. Playback of the same instruments on the SSD drive then is lost also. Copying the document back from the USB drive to my laptop also fails to resolve the issue. The proble...

Re: Unable to Erase a note
In classical guitar music, a line between two identical numbers indicates movement of the numbered finger. If "gliss" is not added, the guitarist will not play a slide but merely use the same finger for the two notes. So adding "gliss." is necessary. Elaine Gould, in her excellent, Behind Bars , cor...

Re: Unable to Erase a note
Miker's suggestion worked (thanks!), so no work was lost. My understanding is that the note could not be erased because it appeared in a measure different from that in which it was written. Here are the steps I used, which I will add to my own blogged guide (nearly 900 pages!) 1. Make sure correct l...

Unable to Erase a note
I disabled "Check for extra notes" and "Fill with rests at end of measure" in "Simple Entry Options" to work on a complex tuplet, which I eventually decided not to write. As a result, Finale fell apart and left a note behind that I cannot erase. Even "Clear all items" fails to removed the unwanted n...

"Out-of-Range-Notes" missing in "View" menu
When writing for guitar that has the 6th string tuned down to D2 (scordatura), and a guitar downward bend with the tremelo arm drops the bottom note to C#2, the note is excluded from playback, being out of normal range. The manual instructs the user to click on View -> Out-of-Range Notes -> Advanced...

Re: Recommended setup for Windows 10
I noticed an appreciable difference when using a SSD. But upgrading my system from 16 GB RAM to 24 GB RAM with an i7 quad core made no difference. I think Finale's need to load soundfonts each time playback is selected and its algorithms for exporting audio could be better as a score with more than ...

Re: Lost Documents
If the lost documents are very important then do not save any new files on the system. Get a data recovery app and burn it onto a CD disk, on another computer. If you only have one computer, ask a friend for help in creating the CD, so you can run recovery without writing to your HDD. There are a nu...

Re: Minimal laptop requirements to avoid total frustration
If you don't click hurriedly and wait for Finale to complete tasks, especially when closing a document or exiting, a laptop with the minimum recommended specs will be just fine. When buying a computer, nothing beats plenty of RAM for performance and reduce problems related to processing power; so if...

Re: Need to correct playback pitch of Oohs/Aahs
Transposition "Up Octave" and the sound heard (an octave above playback) when entering a note had me confused, but playback now sounds correct to my ear. Thanks for the help.

Re: instruments that bypass dynamic markings & mixing faders
Copy and paste a few measures of your score into Finale's "Default Document," making sure HP is enabled. If the dynamic markings are honored in playback then I would suspect your library file might have something in it that Finale does not like. Uploading a sample of the problem will help the wizard...

Need to correct playback pitch of Oohs/Aahs
On my system, the choir Oohs and Aahs sound one octave above concert pitch when played back through MIDI. They do play correctly through VST, but Finale becomes unstable on my PC when using VST; so I avoid using the VST option. I have been adding 8vb, but then my score is technically incorrect. I se...

Re: adjusting location of top staff on second and further pages
Not sure if I am echoing what already has been said, but I select the Staff tool then drag the staff handle (just above the clef) up or down. No need to hold down Shift key. Use the the up/down arrows keys if you wish to nudge the staff up or down.

Re: Lost playback of dynamics...again
oldmkvi, I tried your suggestion, but it did not help. But thanks anyway. Cutting and pasting sections in a score evidently corrupts the file. The only solution seems to be my universal fix, which is to copy and paste the music into a new document. I checked my key velocity assignments, which are......

Re: Lost playback of dynamics...again
gogreen, I'm not sure what you mean by "assign staff to a new instance." Sorry for being so concrete. I have only the piano part played back with ARIA, since I like the Steinway piano sound. ARIA player's playback volume is generally too weak for my liking, perhaps because of its dynamic range. Atta...

Re: Can we write 8vb?
Yes, not a big deal...six of one and half-a-dozen of the other. I just wanted to try the option. Thanks. Now 8vb appears if placed below the staff and 8va if placed above.

Lost playback of dynamics...again
I cut and pasted some sections in a score, which disabled playback of all the dynamics. Toggling genres in HP, replacing the library file and Data Check (File Maintenance -> Remove deleted items) all failed to solve the problem. I think previously someone posted a workaround for this issue, but I ca...

Can we write 8vb?
I understand that 8va below the staff equates with 8vb. But is it possible to write 8vb below that staff with playback? If so, how?

Re: Playback scroll lost
None of my movie editing programs handling multiple and complex tasks, or my DAW, have issues after sleeping. I take frequent breaks when working to avoid desensitization to a score (I detect things that need editing best after some water has flowed under the bridge), but I will follow your recommen...

Re: Playback scroll lost
Thanks for responding. I tired to exit the document by clicking on "x" at upper right; but "Finale stopped responding," which is a frequent problem that I encounter. The latter occurs mostly when forget to go to File -> Close -> Exit. Restarting Finale failed, but a reboot of my system did the trick...

Playback scroll lost
After switching to Studio View then back to Page View, the playback scroll bar got lost. Now, when I play the 20 page document, page one remains in view. Any way to get Finale to scroll the document during playback?

Re: move by 10 pixels
Very unlikely such a feature exists in Finale, but take a gander at the Metatools section in the manual. When my OCPD trait gets the better of me, I find myself using screen calipers to space some things for symmetry, even while knowing Finale moves them as a result of editing or simply saving, clos...

I adhere to the saying that a good teacher imparts good information, but a superior teacher leads the student to discovery of the good information. The latter takes longer but, I think, builds the student. Asking questions that lead to intended discovery also fosters deep respect.

Re: Last Counterpoint Question
I agree with Motet. I think the music will be even better with more distinct counter motion, but not too independent rhythmically.
