Re: Transfer current work to a new computer

What specifically isn't working when you "load" a Garritan library?

Have you followed instructions here: https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ ... PrintMusic

Re: Transfer current work to a new computer

Can't you just highlight, drag, and drop the files onto the thumb drive? What exactly happens when you try to do that? Is the thumb drive formatted correctly for your operating system? Can you copy the files to a CD or DVD and then transfer them that way? It's cumbersome, but you could try emailing ...

My trusty AV-40 monitors have done a decent job for me with Finale playback:

IMO, there is significant value in this if handled well.
Ah, my burning question! How does one handle this well?

Re: Self Publishing Advice for Amateur Composer

In the long run, her best bet is to find the right publisher. Yup. I agree--that's the gist of it. She has too many other things going on (teaching, recording, performing etc.) to devote the time that self-publishing really requires. Yup again. I made this decision some years ago. It was the best c...

mysteriousmonkey29: Have you considered more traditional piano music publishers? I suggest you review their sites online with a Google search and find those in which you think your music best fits. Narrow your choices to two or three publishers for now. Then query each publisher about what you'd lik...

Have you a) created a support ticket with MakeMusic, and/or b) brought this problem to Brother support? I recommend doing both.

Re: Note Not Played with Human Playback

Maybe a marcatto setting would create the slight space between notes that real Players might do. I encounter this problem often in HP. To work around it, I've created macros with FinaleScript that shorten note durations by 95%, 90%, and 85%. These values are the three shorter durations I most often...

Re: Lower Volume of One Note

Or add dynamics and hide them. Or copy dynamics and change the volume setting--I do this often for balance in playback so that the score appears OK for presentation.

Re: Need a large score

Has Brother released any updates to your drivers lately? I've seen 4 including just last week. I have mine set up to do them automatically. The only way I know is that a message appears on my display screen. I check manually. No updates for my printer drivers since 2016. I'm using the latest CUPS d...

BTW, if MM ever fixes the issue with regular .pdf not being true black on a Mac in 25, your problem may also get fixed. Let's hope.
That's an interesting idea. I hope it works out this way!

Re: Need a large score

Be wary of Brother printers for use with Finale 25. I've owned Brother printers for many years, but my MFC-L2740DW prints about 70% grayscale only in Finale. I use two workarounds: 1) Print in Finale 2014.5, or 2) export to PDF in the Graphics Tool. I've gone round-and-round with MM on this problem ...

Are you using an Apple Magic Mouse? I had the same problem with a new 2017 iMac, and I could not get the Magic Mouse to behave correctly. I scrapped it and am now back to my old Logitech M310. No more pages jumping around!

Re: Concert band instrumentation question

I label all my concert band score staff trumpet parts "trumpet," but I've occasionally used cornet COMB2 samples in place of trumpet samples. I read somewhere, maybe here, I don't remember where, that some composers routinely substitute cornet sounds for trumpet sounds. They claim the sound is mello...

Re: Crash Cymbals

I’m guessing they’re called “clash” cymbals because that’s their literal use. In GPO5 and in COMB2, they’re both #93–I’m not at the computer, so that’s from memory.

When I return to my computer, I’ll show how I do this, unless someone beats me to it.

Re: instrument sound levels too low in HP

I'm experimenting a lot this way with the volume of GPO5 and COMB2 instruments in my scores. It's easy--my method: First, create an Aria instance in the next available bank. You can leave it unfilled. Second, go into the score manager and select instruments for the new bank. With your having created...

Re: Printing not black, more like 70% grayscale

I noticed that, too. PDFs created with the graphics tool are much smaller. That does help. What kind of printer gave you this trouble? This problem started for me with my using an iMac three months ago. The same printer (Brother MFC-L2740DW) worked just fine in Windows. Also, if you print normally t...

Re: instrument sound levels too low in HP

I don't know why, but instrument levels are far too low in most of the instrument samples in GPO5 and COMB2, while some are way too loud--at least, in my experience. I've made some adjustments by placing an instrument or instruments in their own Aria instance and then adjusting the base volume there...

Score manager woes

Ever since the score manager was introduced, I’ve found it to be wonky. For me, it changes devices, sounds, programs, banks, and channels unexpectedly. When I load instruments into the Aria player, I always have to check the score manager to make sure it lists what I’ve set up in the Aria player. Mo...

Aren't staff sets Control-1, 2, 3, etc.? I'm using Control-Option-2. Even so, my shortcut for toggling the playback controls, Control-Option-1, works perfectly.

Trouble with shortcuts

I’ve created the shortcut Control-Option-2 to bring up the MIDI tool. When I first try the shortcut, the Explode Music dialog box appears instead. After I close that dialog box, I have to go into the Tools menu and select the MIDI Tool. Then, later in the session, the shortcut works fine for bringin...
