Re: Adjusted measure width won't stick
Thanks all for the suggestions. I tried everything but the measure keeps popping back to the original position when I do spacing. I think I'll just have to keep track of the measures I wanted to be extra wide for instructions and if I want to fix spacing on the rest of the file, I'll highlight the m...

Adjusted measure width won't stick
I want to adjust a measure to be longer than normal to accommodate instructions in the score so I go to measure attributes and click the width change and make my change and save, but when I use music spacing, it snaps back to the original width. Is there some way I can make it stay wider? I have Fin...

Re: Force hide staff cuttaway but keep text
Yes, I did that. But the information about attaching the text to another measure is useful in other circumstances. There are so many possibilities with Finale. I keep a file because it's impossible to remember them all (at least for me).

Re: Force hide staff cuttaway but keep text
I just suddenly realized what Peter Thompsen was suggesting about creating a new staff style and tried it and it worked. I had been confused before thinking he meant a complete staff, but it was just a staff style. Thanks so much!

Re: Force hide staff cuttaway but keep text
That's a good idea for future projects. The problem in this case is that most of the time they're singing so the staff has to be normal. I've been putting the few measures where they speak under the staff lines which works but I thought it would be tidier if I had a white space there to put the dial...

Re: Force hide staff cuttaway but keep text
I just discovered to my dismay that when I force hide the staff, it hides the staff name as well if the hidden part comes at the beginning of the page. Is there a work around for that, too?

Force hide staff cuttaway but keep text
I have some dialogue in an opera I'm working on so I was hoping to replace some staff lines with just white but keep the text but when I use the "force hide staff cuttaway" in the staff tool, it makes the text disappear as well. If I keep one line on the staff, the text stays but I'd like it to be j...

Re: Clearing lyric verse numbers
I just did an experiment and deleted from the lyric window all the lyrics left over from the last opera and started fresh and it worked. I can start again with verse 1. So I think I'll revert to using the old files with everything deleted since all my settings are there where they aren't if I start ...

Re: Clearing lyric verse numbers
I'm leaving the files I already did that way alone since it does seem to work normally, but I think I'll make up a new template to use for the rest of the piece as I expect I'll end up with around 12 more segments. Thanks for all the advice.

Re: Clearing lyric verse numbers
It's just that I want the lyrics in this new piece to be classified as "verse 1 " since it's the first lyrics I put into this file, but I made the mistake of using a file from a previous work as a template and figured if I deleted everything, it would be like starting fresh. That's not the case I no...

Clearing lyric verse numbers
I have Finale 25 running on High Sierra. I am working on orchestrating an opera for chamber orchestra and unfortunately, I thought it would be a good idea to use a previous opera with the same orchestration as a template because I'm breaking it up into sections. Unfortunately, I discovered after 500...

Re: Can't make cue notes
What I don't understand is why Document/Data check/File maintenance doesn't show what's been deleted. It's always zeros in the right hand column. But since I've never gone beyond 2,000 frames or frame assignments or 7,000 entries, I guess I'm safe. I always start a new file and then hook the PDFs to...

Re: Can't make cue notes
Well, of all things, it was because of the view! I had it in a view that didn't show some of the staves so apparently when I tried to put in the cues, that somehow blocked the cues from going in. In any case, when I used "all staves," it worked but when I tried a staff set, it didn't. Who needs vide...

Re: Can't make cue notes
I've done the file maintenance several times and it always comes up with zeros on the right side for deleted items so I've assumed it they were automatically deleted when I would open the file. In my old Finale 2009, (I now have Finale 25X on High Sierra) whenever I did file maintenance, it would ha...

Can't make cue notes
Suddenly I get this message when I try to make cue notes: "Cue notes could not be created. It is possible you have reached Finale's maximum amount of measures with notes." I haven't had any problem with cue notes until now. I've been doing my score, which is rather large) in sections so I take a cop...

Re: Rest placement when using two layers
I just discovered the the plug-in, "Move rests" did exactly what I needed. It moves the rests in the highlighted area but not universally. There's so much in Finale lying there undiscovered, especially when you go from 2009 to 25X.

Re: Rest placement when using two layers
Thanks for this. I figured as much but I wanted to check with the forum before I gave up. Sometimes I'll spend hours trying to do something that can't be done so it's good to know I'll just have to continue doing what I was doing.

Rest placement when using two layers
I have Finale 25X running on High Sierra and I have a question about rest placement when using two layers. Is there a way to avoid going over the whole piece and manually moving the rests in the second layer so they don't bump into notes on the first layer in just one section of the music? It's a pi...

Re: Cautionary accidentals on Finale 25X
I went back and set cautionary accidentals as you said and it worked. I think somehow "courtesy accidentals" had been checked which put accidentals on everything. I found I could get rid of them by unchecking "auto freeze accidentals" but then the cautionary accidental feature didn't seem to work at...

Cautionary accidentals on Finale 25X
I just got Finale 25 X on a High Sierra Mac, and when I tried to do cautionary accidentals with the plug in, it didn't seem to do anything unless I had "auto freeze accidentals", which put accidentals on everything. With my old Finale 2009, when I used cautionary accidentals, it would do what was ex...

Re: Cues with lyrics but no notes showing
I tried that, too, but it made the measures too cluttered. Part of the problem is a good opera conductor is needed but not always available so as a precaution, I try to make the parts as clear as possible. Right now I think I have enough options. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: Cues with lyrics but no notes showing
I just tried it and it works although it ends up being more trouble than just using the cue plug in and making the notes invisible. There are definitely places, however, where this works better than the cue plug in... mainly when there's just one or two words the musicians have to listen for. Thanks...
