Unable to apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs
To economize space, I assigned choral "Oohs" to layer 1 and "Aahs" to layer 2 but cannot get Finale to honor added dynamics. I set "Dynamics & Volume" in HP to auto and tried adding dynamic markings, from pppp to ffff , to hairpins. For playback, the only way I can control the volume of the "Aahs" t...

Re: Shifting an auto hyphen
If the issue appears only in new documents, you may want to backup any custom library files, uninstall Finale, purge the registry of Finale footprints, manually delete any residual files with File Explorer then reinstall. If the issue does not appear in a default document, I would suspect a funky li...

Re: Shifting an auto hyphen
Finale is a great program but with some oddities. I have never had a hyphen overlap a syllable. Thanks for sharing the option.

Re: Shifting an auto hyphen
For printing, the only alternative of which I can think is to save the file in PDF format and use a PDF editor. If you use a graphics editor, like Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop, set the resolution to 600 dpi to preserve the image quality as much as possible. You might also download and try the latest...

Re: Question for composers
Thank you so much. I do appreciate motet's philosophy. But now I feel more comfortable about truncating the score.

Write a waltz in 6/8 ???
Another Q if I may... I wrote a song that has a "Straussian" waltz feel. But often with only one or two notes per measure, the score appears awfully long (for a song). I am thinking of writing the sheet music in 6/8 to truncate the length. I'm curious how other composers feel about writing a waltz i...

Re: "One or more auto-saved documents were found"
If the problem occurs when working with all Finale documents, it sounds like you may have to uninstall Finale, purge MakeMusic and Finale footprints from the registry, reboot and then re-install Finale.

Where is Finale's Preferences file located
I wish to regenerate Finale's Preferences file but cannot find the path in File Manager. Running a search for Preference was unfruitful.

In such case, I add an extra rit. or rall or use the "Tempo Tap" option that always works.

Re: "One or more auto-saved documents were found"
When you say regenerate the Preference file, do you mean re-save it or replace it from a backup?

Re: "One or more auto-saved documents were found"
If the problem you experience occurs only with a specific document then the cause may be file corruption. I also get the "Finale not responding" message but only in heavily edited work. Finale definitely does not like polyphonic flamenco guitar music, with rasgueados, golpes and other custom marks; ...

Re: E-MU audio interface and Windows 10
The generic ASIO4ALL driver worked me when I used a Focusrite, DBX and a 7.1 SS USB h'ware in my studio. I downloaded my copy from Steinberg, which is one of the manufacturers of the universal driver. If your h'ware mfr is proprietary-based, your only option is to contact them. I agree that a Win up...

Re: E-MU audio interface and Windows 10
There might be a universal driver that works just as well and terminates the MS nag. You could try the ASIO4ALL by Steinberg Technologies. If unhappy, you can always uninstall the driver. The home edition (freeware) of Registrar Registry Manager will let you purge any leftover footprints in the regi...

Re: Recommendations for Computer speakers
In my opinion, nothing compares to studio quality headphones, like the circumaural Sennheiser HD380 Pro, which are well within your budget. They let you accurately hear sounds that are absent in all but the priciest speakers. The HD380's are also much more comfortable than their competing ATH-M70X A...

Re: Avoiding using cumbersome ties
Motet is correct as who is the authority that make the rules? Having just moved, my library is still in boxes. But I would be interested in what Elaine Gould has to say in her excellent Behind Bars compendium about preserving symmetry in notation to facilitate reading. Should we heed what music dict...

Re: Avoiding using cumbersome ties
Oops! I sit corrected.
I interpret absence of such helpful symmetry in notation as disregard for the reader. Evidently, my sight reading is wanting.

Re: Avoiding using cumbersome ties
In the attached file, you will find what I believe you seek to do, which, BTW (as far as I know), is technically incorrect. You will never see a work by a major publisher using notation in 4/4 that cannot be visually divided in two for sight readers. I would write a half-note tied to a quarter note....

Re: Unable to add an instrument
That worked! Thank you Zuill and Peter. You guys are awesome. When saving the library file, I saved "Percussion Layouts" only, so when I loaded the library file in a new document, Articulations, Expressions and Custom Lines did not get duplicated. Cajón now appears in the Percussion Layout Selection...

Re: Quarter tone guitar bend
As far as I know, a semitone is the smallest interval supported by Finale. But you might get the effect you are seeking by playing with HP preferences. 1. Make a playback copy of the document. 2. Make the first note as long as possible and the second (target) note a 1/128th. 3. HP Preferences -> Gli...

Unable to add an instrument
With Zuill's help, I created a custom percussion map for the cajón (attached), saving the file as a template (Cajón.ftm). But I am unable to replicate the customization nor add the instrument in File Manager to a new document, despite using the setup wizard and selecting Cajón. Neither "World Percus...
