I've always used ALT+0151 to create an em dash when entering lyrics. Just got a new laptop and installed Finale, everything works great, but...
my em dash is missing. ALT+0151 doesn't work. Other ALT's work, like ALT+0146 for a curly apostrophe.
Anyone know what's going on?? Very strange.

BuonTempi: the page size is 6x9. So it prints out smaller than it seems on the screen.

Re: Spacing plug-ins?
Thanks guys. Formatting is set (fonts and sizes), unfortunately.
Motet - I tried your suggestion and it worked GREAT! Can't believe I had never thought of this. I still have to do some manual adjustment on lyrics, but this is a huge time saver!
Wish I had realized this two years ago... haha

Re: Spacing plug-ins?
JW Note Spacing doesn't really help me in this case. See attached file (turn off automatic spacing first!!). You can see that this file involves a lot of manual adjustment. Finale attempts to adjust for the lyrics, but in the process, it makes all kind of poor spacing decisions. Sometimes a quarter ...

Spacing plug-ins?
Greets all,
Are there plug-ins available that correct Finale's wacky note spacing when lyrics are involved? I don't know how many hours I've spent manually respacing things.
I've checked out JW, but doesn't that only work up to version 2014.5?
Thanks!
Dan

Re: More unwanted respacing
Motet: what I sent you may be unhelpful. I myself closed and opened the file, and it opened with the incorrect spacing. I saved, closed, re-opened, and manually respaced the measures (AGAIN), and this time it seems to keep my changes. EDIT: I don't see any path forward besides setting manual spacing...

Re: More unwanted respacing
Ok, just tried this: 1. turned OFF "Update layout" 2. turned off "reflow across systems" (does this matter?) 3. Ctrl+U to update, and it respaced it again. Print to PDF has the same effect. 4. Grab nearby hammer, pause to consider, gently set hammer back on shelf 5. Ctrl+Z to undo 6. selected the la...

Re: More unwanted respacing
Here's another example: https://youtu.be/BcrEEaOOke4
This file won't keep the spacing on the first line no matter what I do.
The final keystroke is Ctrl+Z to undo. But it won't stay.

Re: More unwanted respacing
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I understand the bit about "Update layout" and will keep it checked from now on, although like Perotinus I've been using Ctrl+U manually. Also, as P described, my spacing problems continue. And yes, IT MATTERS. Sometimes (often) Finale "helps" by making huge spacing...

More unwanted respacing
Hi guys, I'm getting more unwanted respacing from Finale. In this case, it's when I bump a system. Check out the screen capture here: https://vimeo.com/258834111/3e9cb9b4e7 Any thoughts? Automatic spacing is turned off... maybe it's because of the split measure at the end of first system? This parti...

Re: Importing selected expressions to a library
In the File menu, there are 2 items: Save Library and Load Library. If you just want to load the default expressions, then there is a library already for that. Choose Load Library, then in the Maestro Font folder, there is an Expressions library. One thing that loading a Library doesn't give you ar...

Re: Importing selected expressions to a library
Zooly: that's fine, whatever method Finale uses will work for me, as I just need them for quick solutions for rit and accel.
Can you help me on how to do what you described? I don't know how to save a library.
Thanks in advance!

Importing selected expressions to a library
I have a pretty customized expression library I've developed over the past couple years. It's familiar to me, and I don't want to go back to the default Finale library. BUT I'm missing a couple useful things... ...for example, I think I remember that the Finale default "rit" and "a tempo" expression...

Tenuto position?
See below. When there are two voices on a staff like this, should I spread the tenuto marks far above and below as I did? Finale's default position is to bury them in the middle of the staff.

Re: Tremolo position?
Generally, divisi doesn't need to be notated (at least in my circles). Players will always divide unless you write "non div" or use a bracket. And sometimes they'll ignore it, and divide anyways. lol. Nobody plays double stops unless they're forced to. Of course I agree with David - if it gets compl...

Tremolo position?
See below. The violin 1 and 2 tremolos I manually positioned. The viola and cello tremolos are where Finale put them automatically. tremolos jpeg.jpg Where should they go? I always thought tremolos should go where the stem would be if notes had one. Why does Finale put it in such a strange spot? Tha...

Thanks N. I'm on 25.5 but haven't updated my profile.
I will try another PDF tool, but this is Acrobat Pro. It should work!
Thanks,

"Print to PDF" respaces the music?
I'm typesetting a hymnal. Manual spacing details are crucial.
See attached file. When I print to PDF, it respaces the first line, and I have no idea why. Automatic spacing is turned off.
Can anyone help? Thanks!
Dan
