Re: dead horse
For example, to enter a tuplet in Speedy with Finale, I can just press ctrl+(a number) to start inputting that tuplet. In Dorico I press a key that launches a small window into which I enter my tuplet value, then press enter and then continue my note entry, then need to toggle OFF the tuplet entry ...

Re: dead horse
I’ve not used it myself, but I’ve heard from other users who are running it successfully on Windows 7, as long as Aero Glass is enabled. I would assume 8 and 8.1 would work as well.
You could easily secure a free 30-day trial and give it a go.

Re: dead horse
Although I switched over to Dorico three years ago, I continue to use Finale from time to time as needed. And I’m really sad to see the incredible neglect on the part of MakeMusic. Finale was really such a top-drawer program for decades, and we all benefit from Finale, Dorico, and Sibelius continuin...

Re: File sharing
What can Finale do that Dorico can't yet? One of Finale's strengths is that you can customize just about anything if you don't like the defaults. Does Dorico take that philosophy as well? Finally, can users write scripts and/or plug-ins? BuonTempi listed the main ones. I’ll add another: custom staf...

Re: File sharing
I've wanted to try Dorico, but it's such an alien way of working, when compared to Finale. I think, at least in my case, it will be a very steep learning curve. If I recall it also required Windows 10? that's not going to happen until I really can't help it and my computers die from old age. I had ...

Very interesting to know that these careted numbers originated with Schenker!
By the way John, I don’t know if you saw, but on the MusAnalysis forum I posted an update to solve this issue.

Re: What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
It’s a scale degree. Common in all sorts of analysis. And easier to input as lyrics.

Re: What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
It’s because those characters are present in the font you tested, and Finale is helpfully joining the caret and the base character, since if assumes you want them joined. And I agree it’s helpful, just not in this case where that caret behavior breaks the ligature I’ve created.

Re: What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
Aha, I wondered if that might be the case. Thanks Jan. Indeed, other ligatures work just fine. Apparently the caret is somewhat “reserved” by Finale in lyrics, just like the hyphen... Do you know of any other characters that might be off-limits? There are a finite number of characters to use, but I’...

Re: What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
Peter, the ^4 is a ligature, which is a substitution. It's not combining the number and caret, it's substituting that key combination for an entirely different glyph: one that looks like a number with a caret on top. These glyphs already exist within MusGlyphs, 1-8. Try it with the text tool, and yo...

Re: What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
Hi Peter, thanks for asking. Any project replicates it. You need this font (which is free, and you may find it useful anyways).
Once you have it installed, in any Finale project, type ^3, for example. It works in the text tool, but not in the lyric tool.

Re: What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
The thing is, this is a dedicated ligature within the font. In this font, a caret followed by a number produces a scale degree number. All other ligatures display correctly, just not ones that use the caret.

What's the deal with the caret in lyric entry?
I'm noticing that any ligatures that include the asciicurcum (^) break in lyrics. They look correct during entry, but break as soon as the lyrics advance: https://i.imgur.com/ATiSg48.gif Is this something particular to the way that lyrics parse the caret? I couldn't find anything by searching. This ...

Re: Finale 27 blog post
I don't use SMuFL, but that sounds like a good thing. I wonder how revising the instrument list makes the notation look good? The MusicXML update might be worth it, for the day when MakeMusic goes under and we need to flee to Dorico. It's on my list of things to do to run all my pieces through the ...

Re: Non-breaking Hyphen
Yes, I found it much easier to just map this function to a character like the period instead of the hyphen.
Dorico pulls the hyphen automatically using Alt-hyphen, but Finale does not.

Re: Non-breaking Hyphen
Thanks Peter. Is there an easy way to assign that to a key binding in Finale?
If not, I think the easiest solution will be to swap out the hyphen or another character in the analysis font so there's no conflict with the hyphen advancing the lyric entry.

Re: MusAnalysis
Just a quick note to say that MusAnalysis has been updated on Notation Central. I’ve added a ton of things (that “.1” is a big number), and there’s comprehensive documentation now.
Please let me know what feedback you have and I’ll continue making improvements.

Re: MusAnalysis
Thanks! Yes, I believe that's correct. Finale is unfortunately the picky one here: Dorico, Sibelius, and MuseScore all recognize the ligatures successfully.
I'll post an update here when it's fixed.
