Re: not 2 numbers for split measure
Just a small warning that if you happen to have independent key signatures or independent time signatures enabled in the staff attributes, then Finale will crash if you run the Split Measure Plug-in. This has been the case since about version 2014d. The bug was reported but never fixed (I just tried...

Re: Unable to expand a system
Dear kccarpent: Thank you for your question: The suggestion I wanted to convey to you (I hoped it would be helpful) was that you don't need to change anything program-wide in terms of your default selection of measurement units in Finale, whether via "Program Settings" or "Document Settings." Stay w...

Plus: One of my favorite tips in Finale (from the manual): Even with one of these measurement units selected, you can override your global choice on a case-by-case basis. Just include the units, or their abbreviation, when you type any measurement number into Finale. For example, suppose you’ve sele...

It's on his 64-bit plug-ins page as part of "JW Test Plugins for 64-bit Finale," see:
"64-bit Windows Plug-ins (Finale 25+)" at https://www.finaletips.nu/index.php/dow ... s-plug-ins
Go to the very bottom of the page and you will find them.

Re: Last system "big" by default?
I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but there is also a JW "Fit Music" plug-in, that does some calculations to try to balance system content.

Re: Disassociated handles
This may not be apropos at all, but are you in Page View? And, if so, are you viewing multiple pages? A while back I noticed with long/big files that my text blocks in particular would malfuntion if I was in a certain type of page view (doing mostly earlier music I don't often encounter dynamics). N...

If I understand you rightly, unchecking the following item under the Staff Menu may do what you want: Show Default Staff Names • Show Default Group Names. Choose these commands to show or hide Finale's default names for unnamed staves and groups on-screen. When selected, the default names appear on ...

Thanks, motet, I hope it will be less destructive.
I will soon find out for sure, and at a time when I can devote what I may need to do with it. And, thank you, you reminded me to make a copy of my modified Finale.ini before updating!
Cheers,

Re: Finale 26.2
Thanks, motet, That's the thing. The links in the email from MM advising me of the update (not the MM "page" as I said before -- pardon me), these have me go through the "Help" menu --> "Check for update," not through my browser. That's what I first chose, and that's what apparently skips the usual ...

Re: Finale 26.2
Quick question, folks, The download of the update to Finale 26.2 as described on the MM page seems not allow you to save it before asking if you want to install it, so instead I went through my account at MM and downloaded the update as a zip file that I could save on my computer. Could someone remi...

Not to complain too much, but...
Although I realize that ads are unavoidable for us on this forum, which is much preferable to the official one at MM, it's a bit disconcerting and rather annoying to now see ads interrupting individual posts rather than just occurring between them. I am sure there is nothing the moderators can do, b...

Re: Shifting an auto hyphen
Thanks, Djard. I’ll bet it has something to do with the spacing setting at the start of the measure at the beginning of a system. I’ll experiment with that and see what happens.

Re: Shifting an auto hyphen
For me the problem is usually the opposite of your case: having the automatic hyphen ram into the start of the syllable on the next page, or on the next system. I haven't found a way to shift the automatic hyphen to the left so it doesn't overlap the syllable. What I do in these circumstances is to ...

Re: natural sign above staff
I don't know whether I agree that the tritone you give below between the upper two parts would have been acceptable as a simultaneity (i.e., all notes attacking at one time without passing gestures or a suspension). I would expect an editor to revise the tritone here to a perfect fourth by sharping ...

This is an interesting case, and in the latter example, the F# seems prompted from the idea when (from Wikipedia on "musica ficta"): "At cadences and other places where two voice parts proceed to an octave or unison, singers normally approached the perfect interval from the closest imperfect interva...
