Would it be possible for someone to send a v. 27 PC file to a Mac user, have them open it and save it in Sonoma and then try to send it back to the PC user?
Or could you upload the problem file here? (Repitch all the notes, delete random bars, if you don't want to make the contents public.)

Re: No Vibrato

(Note Performer is synthesized/AI so it's no go, I only used sampled instrumentation, including choir.) Firstly, NP's synthesised strings are miles better than anything in Garritan libraries (and some others), so dismissing them out of hand because they're not samples seems like a needless self-imp...

Re: Missing Toccata Font

No problems on the iMac (Intel) so I am assuming it has something to do with the processor. Is the Intel Mac on the same OS version? Processor-specific differences are very rare -- and it would likely not be restricted to Finale. However, I can confirm that Toccata doesn't show up in the Finale fon...

Re: Missing Toccata Font

If you've converted the document to use FinaleMaestro, then Toccata may not work as a font for music symbols, because you're now working with a SMufL-font.

However, you should find that most, if not all, of the symbols in Toccata are somewhere within FinaleMaestro.

Re: looking for notation sequencer

I'm looking for a notation sequencer Do you just mean that you want to be able to input music into a notation app with better quantization than you're able to achieve with Finale? then copying the sequence (manually) into Finale as notation. Surely you'd export MusicXML from the other application, ...

Re: Notes labeled in exported sheet music?

the individual notes could be labeled with their metadata? Do you mean like PDF annotations? That would be amazingly useful for me. I'm intrigued by your workflow. What are you doing to the PDF that you need to have this data? I doubt you'll ever see this in Finale, so if it's something you need, y...

Re: Version 27.4 coming

Well, they will have had nearly a year since the previous update, which is as long as is normally between the last update of one version and a new release of the next (point updates usually come c. 100-200 days apart); so we should expect some significant fixes, if not new features.

Re: Leland font on Finale

SCORE was an amazing technical feat, and it was certainly the best "automatic" computer engraving until Lilypond or Dorico -- but I wouldn't say it was necessarily the high water mark of engraving. If you don't like FinaleMaestro or Bravura (the two are very similar and really only differ in weight,...

...the fabulous Leland font what made Score so beautiful..? It's worth saying that MuseScore's Leland font is NOT "the font that made SCORE so beautiful" -- it is "inspired" by the characters of SCORE. (In fact, SCORE didn't use a font.) There are some differences between the Leland font and SCORE'...

In an ideal world, you shouldn't have to turn off Automatic Music Spacing -- if Document Options > Music Spacing > Manual Positioning is set to either Ignore or Incorporate, then Finale should still be able to space out the music, but take your adjustments into consideration. Re: Double sharp/flat Trills

It's surprising that the SMuFL fonts ("everything you'll ever need in one font, including a 1024th-note rest and a bass clef with a '5' on the tail") don't have these. As discussed with bracketed accidentals, the SMuFL standard usually leaves combining glyphs together to the notation app itself; th...

There is/was a JW plug-in that handled doubling and halving much better, though it hasn't been ported for Apple Silicon.

Re: Adding instruments?

I suppose it depends on whether this change is intentional, or a bug that will be fixed in a later OS update; whether MM were following the correct APIs to start with; and all sort of other things. I have plenty of apps that don't need updating to work with the new OS. (Though some others do.) I don...

Adding instruments?

The "Add Instrument" button in the Score manager does nothing. Doesn't respond to a click at all. And didn't there used to be a menu item under Staff menu to add an instrument from the Setup Wizard? I've reset my preferences, to no avail. Possibly a Sonoma (MacOS 14) issue, as it works on my other M...

Which brings up a serious question I have: is Finale pretty much "end of lifed?" at this point? It's been 299 days since the las...

I don't want or need something that converts my scribblings to standard music notation. All I want is to be able to scratch out a few bars of a tune or a chord progression and be able to save it. I can read my own notation just fine and don't need it to be converted to some other form that will pro...

Re: "Create parenthesized accidentals using multiple characters"

Prior to the move to SMuFL, Finale would use one single character for accidentals in parentheses. E.g. the Maestro font has symbols for accidentals in parentheses, separate from the 'bare' accidentals. FinaleMaestro, the new SMuFL-compliant font, also uses single glyphs for parenthesised accidentals...

By your word ‘understand’ you mean playback - right?
I was mostly thinking of the ability to 'move up and down' through successive accidentals.

Re: Quarter tone accidentals

Finale does seem to have the capability to create custom key signatures (though the interface seems typical byzantine). Would this not be the best way? Even if you do create a suitable tonal system, does it 'understand' quarter tone accidentals, beyond just changing the character of a 'standard' acc...

What monitors are you all using for Finale? I had a cheap one at work that made the staff lines look all fuzzy. Do I really need to spend $1k on a monitor that has iMac resolution or are there better alternatives? On MacOS, the pixel density is crucial. If you use a display with a low pixel density...
