Can't hide rests

You have posted your question in the PrintMusic forum. Are you using the full Finale 2000, or Finale PrintMusic 2000? The whole measure rests you have in empty measures, are "default whole rests". These "default whole rests" display in empty measures because the staff is set up to display whole rest...

Font Annotation/Soundfont missing

Insert your Finale 2008 installation disc, and install the missing components (or do a full Finale 2008 installation, to make sure that nothing is missing).

Also, I recommend that you download and install the free Finale 2008b update.

reducing print

If I understand you correctly, you have created a 1-staff score with a bass part, right? Resizing/scaling can be a real mess if you don't know Finale well. Finale has 3 different resizing "tools": - Page Scaling - System Scaling - Staff Scaling They can be used simultaneously, thus making the layout...

The Quickest way to enter notes

What version of Finale are you using?

I recommend that you study the tutorial document "EntryExercise.MUS".
Path:
Finale folder > Tutorials folder > EntryExercise.MUS

There are many goodies in "EntryExercise.MUS".

Finale Print Music 2006 - Print a slash guitar sheet w/chord

Chord symbols must be attached to entries (= notes or rests). A common solution is to attach the chord symbols to hidden entries in another layer. You tell that the quarters were entered, but hidden. What happens if you attach the chord symbols to the hidden entries? Do the chord symbols get hidden,...

I don't know PrintMusic.

In the "mother program" (Finale) it's a setting in the program's Preferences:

Document menu > Page Format > Parts... The page format in the dialog box "Page Format for Parts" is the page format Finale is using, as new pages are added to the end of the part. Obviously you have in the dialog box "Page Format for Parts", a) a different page size, and b) left and right side margi...

My guess is that the 2009b update will give you the "pop up menu down to the right" - along with a lot of other fixes (it's a huge update, and it's free).

Are you using Finale 2009? In Finale 2009 you can create a "Lento" tempo marking like this: 1) Expression Tool. Double-click inside the staff in the measure where you want the tempo marking. The dialog box Expression Selection appears. 2) In the column to the left, click the category "Tempo Marks". ...

The Finale .mus file format is the same format for all programs with the same version number: Finale 2007, Allegro 2007, PrintMusic 2007, NotePad 2007 can open each other's files. Also, the .mus file format is the same in Windows and Mac. Any 2007 .mus file can be opened in both Windows Finale 2007 ...

...to just add one measure per line? I tried that too, but then when I add notes to the next measure, it moves the measure up onto the first line, which I don't want... You can get one measure per system by locking the systems. Use the command "Lock Systems" which will lock the systems the selected...

Repeat Tool. 1) Double-click the measure where you want the Fine. If your document was created from the Default File, you will find a ready made "Fine" in the dialog box Repeat Selection, complete with metatool (the letter F key). Select it, and click the button "Select". 2) In the dialog box Text R...

You need the file "Instrument.txt" in the folder Component Files, because the Document Setup Wizard uses that .txt file to create its list of instruments. Try a Spotlight search for "Instrument.txt". This is definitely not a Font Annotation issue. My first guess is that you somehow got the wrong font character selected for the half note notehead. It sounds like you are using the Simple Entry Tool, and don't have the Rests Palette showing. You can show the Rests Palette via the View menu. When entering Simple Entry notes via the computer keyboard, you can turn a selected note into a rest, by hitting the letter R key. When entering Simple Entr...

Chords on empty measures

Many Finale users attach all chord symbols to rests or notes in Layer 4, and hide Layer 4 with Blank Notation. In that way you have (at least) two advantages: - You can get good spacing of chord symbols, even in passages with 16ths. - You can copy chord symbols to another staff, by copying Layer 4 o...

Re: editing rest values

When I select an already existing rest to change the note value, instead of just changing to the new value, it just adds the new value to all the existing beats in the measure, pushing over the notes later in the measure and creating too many beats. My example: I have a 6/4 measure, beats 1 and 6 a...
