Continuing to set up a new Windows 10 computer. I used CutePDF for many years, and, finding Microsoft Print to PDF disappointing, will probably return to it, but before I do, thought I'd ask if anyone has any other recommendations. Thanks.

Re: 2014.5 abridged?
I am delighted and annoyed to report that my Plug-ins/TG Tools problem has been solved. Under Edit/Preferences/Folders, the Plug-ins path was pointing to 2014 instead of 2014.5. 2014 is not installed on the new machine. I'm astonished that MM's coders made this error, and, based on tech support's in...

Re: 2014.5 abridged?
Yes, unzipped and installed and got the confirmation. Trouble is, my menu bar is this: File Edit Utilities View Document MIDI/Audio Tools Window Help No Plug-ins. Tech support had me confirm that I have the two Plug-ins folders (I do, they contain what they're supposed to). The only solution they've...

Re: 2014.5 abridged?
Downloaded and installed TG last night, but without a Plug-ins listing, how do I access it? I've looked through all the menus, thinking maybe plug-ins had been relocated, but either I'm blind to it, or there's something seriously amiss.

2014.5 abridged?
New computer (Win10). Downloaded and installed 2014.5, and now trying to remember how I mapped the zero key on my number pad to be an = (tie tool). Thinking it was something in the Plug-ins collection, I look up and see -- no Plug-ins on the toolbar. Um, what? I suppose I could just copy the folder ...

Re: Programmable keyboards
I use a Logitech G110, and recommend their products. (I still have my Genovation 24-key pad for backup; you might consider one of those if you want to go the add-on route.)

Re: Quotation marks convert to "smart quotes"
Redundancy here: I've memorized the ASCII codes alt-0146, alt-0147, alt-0148 for smart apostrophe/open quotes/close quotes, and have those programmed into a Genovation keypad (which is now backup, having acquired a Logitech G110 with programmable keys).

Could you refer me to an example? I've never seen that, but I acknowledge that I spend most of my time with popular/jazz/theater music.

Assuming your lyrics are attached to notes, can't you adjust the spacing (Measure tool) to keep the lyric text off the bar lines?

Also, the company has been known to be very generous to late adopters. If you have bought a version, and they release a newer version within a couple of months, you can generally upgrade for a nominal cost (or free?).

Re: Rests in Layer 2 colliding with Notes in Layer 1
Document Options/Layers, you should see an offset setting of 6. Making that 8 will move the rests one space further away, 10 two spaces, etc. Beware, though, that it's a universal change, so you might find yourself with unnecessarily wide gaps elsewhere.

Does "Swiss" mean it's a Helvetica knock-off?

Re: Ties in speedy
The problem is the cursor. Just keep it well above or below the range of notes you're entering. (Otherwise, you might have to nudge it one bit up or down to keep it away from any notehead.)

Re: Line of First ending is not continuous
Noted (no pun intended). Meanwhile, I looked at Peter's Custom Line file, and I love it in theory, but am only cautiously optimistic that alignment is easier than simply extending the front or back repeat bar line (which is, of course, a chore that must be postponed until very near the end of layout...

Re: Line of First ending is not continuous
Not sure what an .rar file suffix is, so without looking, I'm guessing all three measures in question are in the same system. Why not just extend the line in the Repeat tool from either to the other?

I've been editing all day, and am feeling pedantic, so I'll point out that there is a circumstance in which you would want a bracket over the entire second ending: if there is a third ending.

Re: Converted File from an old Finale into Finale 2012
I haven't tried to open your attachment (what suffix is .rar?), but from the description, I'm guessing it's a Word Extension attached to a lyric word? If so, it can be deleted via the Lyric tool (activate Word Extensions), or perhaps by using the Measure tool to block Word Extensions.

Edit/Preferences/View, check Show Tools Menu. That puts "Tools" up top. Alt/Opt-T to activate that menu, and then whatever underlined letter to switch to the desired tool.

Re: Cant handle more than 4 layers
Besides the four available Layers, each of those has Voice 1 and Voice 2, so it's possible to put as many as eight independent elements on any beat. (But like those above, I have never experienced such a need, and would like very much to see your file.)
