Re: Lost files on mac

mbfind will locate files in places that most users don't know exist such as APFS back up volumes (there are 24 such volumes, one per hour on most Macs since High Sierra if Time Machine is enabled), Time Machine etc. That's why it must be filtered. This guide is nearly 6 years old and most links don...

Re: Lost files on mac

I wasn't kidding, but it's true "find" is more for technical folk. It's very powerful--do a Google search for "man find" I'm surprised there's no file find built into the Mac I explained earlier the other thread that there is — but Spotlight ain't it. The Find menu, either Finder/File/Find or ⌘ f c...

I'm not sure why you find that funny. "find" has been part of UNIX forever. From the mdfind "man" page (note the last line).
You weren’t joking?

Yikes.

Re: Lost files on mac

Surely the ability to find all files matching some sort of wildcard string is built into the Mac? If not, you should be able to do it from the UNIX shell: find / -name \*.musx something like that. You had to go there... I laughed hard — that made my morning. That particular command doesn't work on ...

Re: Sidecar on Mac laptop

I have 3 monitors and always use at least two — don’t want to work any other way. Sidecar offers the possibility of being able to use pencil entry on a desktop or laptop Mac but only if the app supports it. It will surprise the heck out of me if it works but... With external monitors so cheap, if yo...

Re: Dorico SE is free

At the very least, with SE you can open, play**, export xml/midi, and print any Dorico document, so might be useful to any Finale user who gets sent a Dorico document. ... Notepad could do that With Finale files. Playback was general MIDI only. Sibelius has its own viewer. I think that MM is missin...

Have you tried the EasyFind app? I use it all the time. Do you have it working over Mojave? Been reading reports that it isn't compatible with APFS. I've been using Find Any File.app which worked well over Mojave (v1.94) has just been updated to 64 bit (v2.0) for Catalina compatibility. It's $7.99 ...

I'm currently using Macintosh System 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) with Finale 2011. Will this Finale work if I upgrade to El Capitan? (I believe that's System 10.11.) Yes it will but only if 2011 is already installed & verified before upgrading the OS. It won’t install after Mavericks. Let me rephrase tha...

I tested the Finale PDF Export feature as well as exporting with the Graphics Tool, and they both are, as far as I can see, exactly the same (although I remember some discussion about "true" black etc., but I've never actually seen any difference on the screen, nor when printed on paper... I seem to be missing a Finale file on my Mac computer. Is there a special way to find it other than "search?" Here's Apple's help pages for filtering searches: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mh15155/mac If it doesn't show up, you'll need to search in your Time Machine backup. “Searc...

In my youth, when I was a brass player, I’d have known what that meant. As a string player, I’d think, “What brass player wrote this? Bows don’t have that kind of dynamic range.” As a singer, my throat would hurt just looking at that. As a conductor, I’m ok with it but would hope I see it only as a ...

Re: recover

“Search” Is a Spotlight feature. Unfortunately, it tries to fine everything on the internet, too. There’s every chance it won’t locate files on your Mac. It rarely does on mine. It also won’t show the path to a file which I find annoying. Use “Find” in the Finder menu instead. It can find everything...

Re: Wouldn't it be great if Finale did what I wanted it to do?

I very much dislike software that makes its own decisions contrary to what I told it to do. Finale has a long and very rich history of doing whatever it pleases, regardless of the commands... Doesn’t a passive aggressive post like that deserves a sarcastic response? Ok, here goes: If you think that...

Nothing quite like the experience of spending extra rehearsal time trying to figure out the “personal preferences” of a composer Or arranger. Had to do that a few times over the holidays. As a singer, I rely on them. My choir sang the Messiah a couple of years ago, and the edition we used did not have them. I put mine in by hand. Word extensions should definitely be used for melisma. Messiah is a great example. If it’s just to extend the length of a word, I don’t use them. Redundant...

The 26.2.1 hot fix has been released, so you can go to the Check for Updates option in Finale and get the update. This addresses the grace note music spacing ... as well as the default tie placement issue.

When has an incremental update ever overwritten the Preferences? Anyway didn’t happen here. Mac users running High Sierra or later can reset to an earlier state within the last 24 hours using APFS Snapshots. If the new install messes things up, you can roll back an hour or two. I know, normally and Finale are often not used in the same sentence but it could happen... What happens when you print to PDF...
