Re: change rests

Nothing worked as I had hoped. [...]I think the safest thing for me to do is to eyeball each occurence and change them manually with a macro. Not necessary; this JWLua code searches for occurences of a quarter rest followed by an eighth rest, replaces the quarter rest with a dotted one and removes ...

Re: assign slurs to multiple staves

The JWLua script "Slur Phrases.lua" in the zip file below searches for phrases within a selected region in multiple staves and slurs them. Make yourself familiar with JWLua before trying it out. Background: We discussed adding single slurs with hotkeys in the German forum . I suggested a JWLua solut...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

I do support Anders' view of the situation. Indeed, it's quite interesting to get some insight how Finale is used by others and how users think of Finale as a notation/composing/producing tool. It reminds me that I probably use the very same software in a quite different fashion than others, which i...

Re: Chords

Yes, the plus sign is very often used for #5. I would recommend to use #5 instead, because there's no doubt about what to do. Students could figure it out by themselves easily. To answer the initial question on A+9, it should be A9(#5) preferrably, in my opinion. But whether the + really means a #5 ...

Re: Measure Region Numbering

Does anybody else encounter the issue when relabeling measure regions, the font changes (specifically to Maestro rather than Times New Roman)? It's very annoying and tedious to reset the font every time I have to create regions, and I'm wondering if anyone here has solutions. You can change the fon...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

Is there a more satisfying feeling when composing in Finale, writing a harmony line that sounds just right in Speedy Entry or creating a violin section that compliments the lead voice in melody and character? Well, composing in Finale doesn‘t give me an equal flow in creativity just as sitting at t...

Re: O/T Score and Parts in languages

German: Score = „Partitur“, Parts = „Stimmen“ or „Einzelstimmen“ You would use „Stimmen“ in a professional context, when it‘s clear that you speak of a score and parts. Watch out for the capital letter, „stimmen“ instead would mean „tuning“... You would use „Einzelstimmen“ in a non-professional cont...

Re: ties vs dots in 3/4

I seems to me that the dotted-quarter controversy is at least somewhat genre-related. Jazz players are more used to reading syncopation (e.g. eighth notes tied over the barline anticipating the downbeat) than classical players. Yes, it‘s genre-related, but it‘s also country- and time-related, as th...

Re: Can we extract score parts without loss of tempo changes

Yes, you‘re right in all advantages of a DAW, but the question was why you would prefer exporting an Audio file from Finale rather than a MIDI file which would give you these and a lot more editing possibilities, including tempo changes.

Re: tips for a pc user?

Especially with Autohotkey and Bome's MIDI Translator, we PC users do have some very strong tools for hotkeys. These possibilities don't exist similarly for the Mac. If used wise, Autohotkey can save lots of time.

Re: ties vs dots in 3/4

My arena of music engraving is educational music (school band and orchestra). This figure is almost always notated or edited to be "dotted quarter/eighth tied to quarter". A possible reason is that it is, after all, a syncopation. Showing the eighth tied to quarter subdivision indicates clearly whe...

In the attached .mus file, using the Selection tool, if you click on the first gliss. symbol (not the text), it appears in the bottom left corner of a small frame. What happens if you open the print dialog, check a part and enter "2" in the "Copies" column? You say Finale does its own thing - does it really ignore the number of copies?

If yes, something is seriously broken.

Don't know if I understood the problem right, but... If I would want to print a part twice on a single piece of paper, I would tell Finale to print 2 copies of the part in the print dialog. Re: repeat on score but not parts

I would avoid any solution which leads to different measure numbers among players or the score. These scenarios often lead to unproductive and lenghty discussions in rehearsals. Instead, you might give the Tpt 2 two staves, where the 16-bar solo is written out over the 8 repeated bars which everyone...

The discussion moves away from the original topic, and I plead myself guilty of that, too... How is it more versatile? It looks like it scrolls one measure to the left or right. It's more versatile because it's language independent. All Autohotkey scripts relying on the measure selection box being a...
