Re: Hide & collapse a region fail

Thanks, Michael R E, that's a good idea I hadn't thought of and that's what I will do. This doc is one of many that I make for music-minus-one use. For myself, I can mute a voice and play along with Finale running, reading off the screen; for people without Finale, I make a pdf and a set of mp3 file...

Re: Hide & collapse a region fail

There is a provision for horizontal hiding, in the manual at "Cutaway scores", where I was experimenting. See attachment, though it isn't quite as I remembered it. The idea is to create the count-off click track and hide all evidence of it, horizontally and vertically. This doc comes close, though I...

Hide & collapse a region fail

Hiding and collapsing a region of a system -- trouble. Per attached test file, Finale thinks that 3 measures are both hidden and collapsed, but they are only hidden. I have seen ancient forum posts about this, and I tried all kinds of experiments that failed. Only on the very first time I tried, it ...

Re: Note mover search and replace infinite loop

I tried to select a line, but clicking Note Mover deselects it. And once Note Mover is invoked, I don't see how to select a line. One would think that when you select the measure and a note within the measure that you want changed, that that would be enough to indicate the line I want. But I have ma...

Re: Note mover search and replace infinite loop

Attached, an experimental file. It is consistent -- on the score it hesitates for about 5 seconds, then the rotating death circle begins, and any key-press grays out the screen until ctrl-alt-del, but in the single-staff part it works instantly. Also, in the score, if I escape before the circle of d...

Note mover search and replace infinite loop

I just learned about this note-mover capability on a downloaded quintet. When I tried Gb > F# search & replace all, Finale went into infinite loop, requiring that I shut it down. After experimenting with this disaster -- always resulting in shut-downs -- I finally found that it worked, not on the 5-...

Re: Tempo alteration (note1 = note2) expression dysfunction

Yes, there is that. Dismal defeat. :)

Here is an idea I will play with -- it hooks tempo 2 to tempo 1, though there aren't as many choices: change note durations at the tempo-change point. It will look unseemly, but I can read the original while I play the transformed part.

Re: Tempo alteration (note1 = note2) expression dysfunction

Yes, this is just a test file, and has had many surgeries; the dotted quarter was just a random one of them. N G, I see that as long as the right side of the equation is a number (= BPM), the expression does its job. I was hoping (past tense now) that Finale can parse the relative relation, so I cou...

Tempo alteration (note1 = note2) expression dysfunction

Basic question here -- I can't find help. See attached, simple(!) tempo alteration in m3. No change happens. I have been to Edit Text Expression Definition... > Playback, and tried everything I can think of. I experimented with the canned tempo-alt (quarter = 120), and that worked. Then I duplicated...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

Bravo motet! I found an easy & short piece to experiment with, here: https://imslp.org/wiki/Fredmans_epistlar_(Bellman%2C_Carl_Michael) It's the 2nd piece, Fredmans Epistel Nr. 9, and it's typeset, so a nearly perfect import to SmartScore. There were a couple of easily-fixed errors, and some unexpec...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

motet, I'm not sure I know enough to deal with SS customer service, at least about transpose tags -- though I do recognize them as html tags, which I know how to use for text manipulation. I'm happy to try though. The core of the problem is that the pdf/tif image of the score designates the instrume...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

I think I misstated the process -- here is an almost perfect mechanical sequence. There are a few errors that I can't trace: 1) in SS, Unify to 1st staff -- I think it doesn't matter what key results. 2) Pass the SS xml to Finale 3) in Finale, use the Key Signature Tool to transpose all staves to C ...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

Thanks for all this work and interest, motet & miker. In the past few minutes, I tried an experiment with my scale test-file: 1) import to SS, Unify per 1st staff -- although I think further experiment will show that this setting doesn't matter 2) in SS, erase all key signatures -- quick & easy 3) P...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

Last night I made up the attached test file -- I wrote the same C-scale 9 times, then transposed to various different-key instruments as I know are listed in Score manager, with a couple duplications. Then I made a pdf, imported to SmartScore, then sent SS's xml back to Finale for curing. The point ...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

There's still some wonky, and I think it's on Finale's side. See attached tif (what I gave to SmartScore many times) and jpg (screenshot of the xml it produced with Unify Key Sig completely turned off). All the tif key sigs are correctly retained. 1) Staves 5 & 6, the Eb horns -- the m1 notes (and t...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

I think I got it now, and largely per motet's recipe. But 5+ hours of aggravation today led to the discovery that the culprit was that the SmartScore setting for Unify Key Sigs was not based on topmost Staffline. With that setting, the notes I see in Finale are really what they look like they are, a...

Re: Multiple accidentals problem

Strange -- I responded yesterday to your help, but I don't see it here. The original download (pdf) had the horn parts in C, and marked to be transposed to Eb. We horn players are used to this, and transposing to any other keys, as well. I wanted parts to be in F though so users won't need to transp...

Re: Change instrument, keep staff name?

Thanks, miker. I do have a horn quartet template, and I can make for other instrumentation. There is still a bit more to do this way though, like copying/rewriting title & composer, formatting parts. With all the controls Finale has, I thought that disabling auto-staff naming would exist, and that I...

Multiple accidentals problem

Please see attached, 1 page of a long piece, & there are hidden staves. The visible staves have been transposed for French horn in F. I downloaded this file as mus or xml -- can't remember, then transposed the horn parts (from Eb). There are many cases of triple & quadruple accidentals -- I don't kn...

Re: Change instrument, keep staff name?

Thanks for responding so soon, zuill! My typical need is to transpose blank (C) staves or already marked for some C instrument (voice, flute, etc.) to F for French horn. I want my staff names to be simply 1, 2, 3, 4. But later I want to, say, convert for a Bb clarinet quartet, or some Eb instrument ...

Is it possible to change instruments on several staves at once? A typical case for me: change a 4-voice part-song to a French horn quartet.

Change instrument, keep staff name?

Is it possible to change instrument for a staff, beginning to end, but retain the staff name? The closest I can get is to insert a new m1, then use Change Instrument beginning on m2. But then when I zap the new m1, the new name appears.
