Staff tool. Click and drag up and down in the box at the end of the staff. You will see how to adjust them.

Re: very high note
In simple, I think the easiest way is simply to use the number row to add intervals. Enter the first note D, and then tap 3, 3, 4.
Your chord is done.

Re: many questions
Maybe we're not clear on what you are trying to do. With the E in the bass clef selected, as you have it, tapping the / key should break the beam to the preceding B.
Are you using a US keyboard layout, or something else?

Re: many questions
If you take a look at the sample doc I posted above, it covers what Peter has told you, except for the cross-staff notes. I missed that in your description, so I did them as layers. But the rest should help you see what we mean.

Re: many questions
We need some more information. Which program are you using? Finale, PrintMusic, SongWriter? Most of what you are asking is pretty basic, but some is more advanced, and can only be done in the full Finale. Have you gone through the tutorials and watched the videos? How are you entering the notes? Sim...

No. The lack of Page Layout options is one of the limitations of NotePad. Sorry.

Re: This should be so easy...as it is in sibelius!!!!
I would suggest you get a USB numberpad. It will really be helpful. You can set up your own shortcuts in Mac OS, to get the tools that don't have shortcuts assigned. I have one programmed for Simple, but I never use Speedy. Remember, you can do just about everything that you can do in Speedy, in Sim...

Re: This should be so easy...as it is in sibelius!!!!
Let's see: you don't know how to do something, so the program is stupid? I don't know Sibelius. The couple of times I've tried it, I didn't particularly like it, so I stayed with a program I had been using for years. In a similar situation, though, I would probably say, "could you help me, please? I...

Please take the time to watch the QuickStart videos. There is a section, early on, that talks about the different selection methods.

Re: delete a single note
Welcome to the Forum. If I understand you correctly, you want to move everything back by a single beat. Select everything beyond the note you want to replace. Drag this whole shebang to the left, covering the note you want gone. Release the mouse button. Go to the end of the line, and delete the las...

Re: Creating a 4-measure repeat
The 4-bar repeat is available in the Helsinki Special font. Here, I've pasted it into a Finale doc, and added the "4" from the Maestro font. The Helsinki fonts come with Sibelius. You can download the demo, and then discard it. The fonts will remain. repeat.png A little more searching, and I find th...

The system requirements say that 10.5 is OK. Try it in a new user account. This will at least show you if there is something in your current account that might be conflicting.

Peter,
Thanks for that. I remembered that I could do it in Windows, but not how! And you CAN'T do it the same way, on a Mac.

Remember, this is a user forum. You should submit your suggestions directly to MakeMusic, through their support pages. For #1, you might want to look at JW Navigate, at Jari Williamson's site. It is described as: A small modeless navigator window that can stay on screen at the same time as the docum...

Re: Mac or Windows?
What Mac were you using? I used a PC with Finale for years, and switched to an iMac about a year ago. No trouble with Finale, at all. So, sorry, but I suspect the problem is at your end, not with the Mac. Granted, things move from year to year, and if you update regularly, you get them in little bit...

Re: Chromatic Notation
Peter,
I can certainly see how that could work. Where in the process would you assign a playback note to your entry location on the staff? (I have never delved into percussion, either the old system or the new, because I never need it. Maybe it's time!)

Re: Chromatic Notation
You can certainly set up staves any way you like. And you can click in notes anywhere on that staff, representing any note you want. But if the question is, can you assign your own notes to that staff, and play them in, and have them play back, no, not as far as I know. So if you're doing it for a c...
