Re: Keyboard Shortcuts Main Tool Palette

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I use the mouse for some things, like Simple Entry notes, and things with palette icons, and keyboard shortcuts for other things, like Score Manager that require several layers of menu dropdowns. I am not a Finale professional, just a hobbyist. :D

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts Main Tool Palette

For me, Windows mind you, even though I have setup the F keys for some documents (they are document specific) and have setup macros with AHK, I just click on the Main Tool Palette icons. They are always open on my screen, and I don't have to remember anything, just move the mouse and press a button....

Re: Relink to part

In a similar vein to Zuill's idea, I tried copying from the linked part and pasting back into the score part, but that didn't work. The score and linked part both reverted back to the original.

Re: Expression assignment oddity

motet, I was just making a general observation in that statement. I was not reprimanding you in any way. I myself would never have thought to use the Selection Tool in this case. The Expression Tool was the obvious choice for me. Not so for you. As a programmer, common code is the only way I would h...

Re: Expression assignment oddity

It turns out the bug manifests if using the Selection tool, but not the Expression tool. For you, too? This appears to be the case. Anomalous behavior if using Selection Tool, right click. Correct behavior using Expression Tool, right click. Just goes to show you how you have to be precisely accura...

P.S.: Does pressing Backspace when the handle is selected reset the offset to 0?
Yes, it resets the offset to zero in both F25.2 and F2014.5.

Re: Expression assignment oddity

Did you change the assignment rather than the definition? This happened to me with F2011 as well, so I'm not imagining it. I used "Edit Expression Assignment..." from the right click context menu, as you suggested, both in F25.2 and F2014.5. I am using your document to test. "Edit text Expression D...

Re: Expression assignment oddity

motet,

I looked at your file in F25.2. Adding 6 EVPUs to the offset aligned the rehearsal mark perfectly over the double bar. Maybe this has been fixed in F25. The scroll view was not centered, as you reported.

I'll try it in F2014.5 just for grins.

Worked OK for me in F2014.5 too. :!:

Re: slurs attached to beats

Peter Thomsen,

BTW, you can now upload/download MUSX files directly without having to encapsulate them in a ZIP file, or add ZIP to the end of the file name. I'm sure you must be aware of this.

Yes, simply “Attach to Beats”. However, I am using Finale v25 . Your picture says F2014.5?!?! I have not attached any picture. My attachment was a Finale document. Perhaps you mean motet’s picture? I think that motet is using F2014.5 - but I could be wrong. Operator error once again! It is m...

Re: change shortcut

Thanks Perotinus. I seem to recall having seen that page in the distant past. I never saw any need for the tools that were on it, but I did experiment with Forza! before it was abandoned/superseded. Somehow I don't think developing this utility for 64 bit is very high on JW's to do list. And like mo...

Re: change shortcut

There's also Jari Williamson's Finaletweak, which remaps the Speedy Keys portion of the Finale.ini file. I hope that customization will still be available in 25.2 and beyond, or else I may never upgrade beyond 2014.5 What is this "Finaletweak" you speak of? I don't think I have ever seen it. Is it ...

My apologies. I went back and tried it again, and lo and behold it works now! I don't know what I was doing wrong. BTW, now the TGTools shortcut, the context menu, and pressing the keyboard keys all work, even in F25.2

Re: change shortcut

motet,

I agree with OCTO. The remapping is accomplished, but it does nothing. In fact pressing CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-L or U with an item selected to relink/unlink does nothing. It only works for me when you choose the appropriate option from the context menu. What say you?

AutoHotKey comes to mind. I think it is the best solution, but there is a learning curve. https://autohotkey.com AutoIt is a nice alternative. I have looked, but never used it. https://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit Look here for more alternatives. http://alternativeto.net/software/autohotkey

Re: Importing symbols that I cannot find in Finale 25

Here is yet another link to a Guitar Strings font. http://hindson.com.au/info/free/free-fonts-available-for-download/ While you can take these characters right from the font as text, I would suggest that you make expressions or articulations using the characters from the font. Expressions would be m...

My reply might have been a tad unclear. I probably should have written "a dotted half rest encompassing beats 1 and 2, or beats 3 and 4".

N.
Ahh! In that light, it is clear now. Thanks.

Re: 12/8 Rests

N,
Style wise, you are correct, but unfortunately Finale did not read the style books. It will form a dotted half rest on beats 1, 2, or 3, in 12/8. How would you form a dotted half on beat 4 :?: That would over fill the measure.

ry1633,
See the additional notes I made on my previous post.

Re: 12/8 Rests

I'd like to be able to get dotted-quarter note rests Then you are missing something, probably the key signature. There are several ways to get a 12/8. Choose 12/8 with a beat duration of 4 dotted quarters, NOT 12/8 with a beat duration of 12 eight notes. When you rebar, be sure you have selected th...

Re: 12/8 Rests

If you set "Allow dotted rests in compound meters", set the time signature to 12/8 showing 4 dotted quarter notes, not 12 eighth notes, select the measures, and "Utilities->Rebar->Rebar Music", you will get almost what you want. Two patterns of quarter rest + eighth rest, together, as in your exampl...

I too would like to have some news, but speculation is pointless. I'm sure there is a good reason why there has been none recently. The fact that there have been some beta plug-ins released for Win F25 is enough to convince me that more will be coming. Patience folks, patience.
