Re: Trumpet Lags Behind and Plays Flat in Wonderful v27

I don't have perfect pitch so I don't know if it's playing flat, but seems OK. With regard to your other problem, I changed one of your notes to a low F# and that played, too.

Re: TRUMPET Low F# Not Sounding--Gb Too

On the MIDI/Audio menu, Device Setup, MIDI Thru, set it to "Smart."

Re: TRUMPET Low F# Not Sounding--Gb Too

If you create your file with the set-up wizard, it will set up a B-flat trumpet staff correctly. If you want to display it in concert pitch, on the Document menu check Display in Concert Pitch. This doesn't answer the question of why you're not hearing the F#, though.

Re: TRUMPET Low F# Not Sounding--Gb Too

Both Bb and C trumpets play their written F#s for me with the Garritan sounds, though the Bb trumpet is very, very faint (the C trumpet is not). If I try to switch to switch to MIDI output the program hangs. What a dog's breakfast Finale is! If you're using the C trumpet instrument but are using B-f...

Re: Off Topic -- Ads?

I started seeing them a few days ago. Figured it was a necessary evil to keep the forum running. Indeed. Talk of ad blockers in public here is maybe biting the hand that feeds you, so it's best left unspoken, I think. I agree that pop-up windows of any kind are intrusive. Firefox, Chrome, and Edge ...

Re: Lyrics too low

I yield to your greater experience, but I think the second baseline-adjustment arrow from the left will affect only that staff for the whole piece, so that does give you a global per-voice adjustment. If you really do have repeats with multiple verses, though, shouldn't the Lyric tool verses be used...

Re: Lyrics too low

Each voice doesn't have to have a different verse! The verses are for when you have repeats with different texts printed one above the other.

You must have moved those arrows around to create the situation you're in. Mike, is there some way to reset all the lyric baselines to defaults?

It certainly doesn't make sense to copy between the two different flavors. Other than that, what did you find?

Re: complex meter

Independent time signatures have a bug when drawing hairpins. What are the other limitations, Peter? Can you say more about "This solution works best where the ‘primary’ time signature (= 6/8) is bigger than the ‘independent’ time signature (= 2/4), to obtain the best music spacing."? I've used mixe...

Re: 8va sign

Change the "Octave down" symbol in SmartShape options to select the character with the va aligned at the top rather than the bottom of the 8. Since it's an abbreviation for "ottava," that's where it belongs anyway. Picture below. "8vb" is a lost cause, but this bottom-alignment seems like something ...

Hard to say what's going wrong. I don't know what you mean by "E note." If you've turned off "Automatic Update Layout" or "Automatic Music Spacing" in Preferences, they should be ON.

An expression? Most fonts have a degree symbol. This is 12-point Arial. Attach it to the beat where the diminuendo ends. [Mike beat me to it!]

Re: note mover

Looks like you dragged the second A with the Simple Entry tool instead of the Note Mover. Put that note back, and enter both downstem notes in the left hand and flip the stems down. Then use the Note Mover. Make sure Cross Staff is checked in the menu, click the top staff so that handles appear on e...

I didn't know about Tile Windows, etc., but I never have occasion to display two files at once. Sounds better than what I suggested, and I see now that you suggested it above.

Re: Section Text for Score & Parts

If "Chorus" is on page 2 in the score and every part, you can get away with using a text block created with the Text tool. That should appear in every part. Otherwise, use an expression in a category that includes a score list, for example the Tempo Marks category. By default, things in that categor...

Re: Missing Measure Numbers

That part has a measure number region, but since you normally don't want to show measures on the cello part in a score, the cello's staff has Show: Measure Numbers unchecked. The best way to deal with this is to set your measure number regions to show on Top Staff as shown below. You can make the Li...

Re: How can I have two scores open at the same time?

You can't run a second copy of Finale. I suspect there's just a misunderstanding here. Finale opens files maximized within its window. If you pull down the Window menu you'll see the list of files open at the bottom, and you can switch between them there to do you copying and pasteing. If you want t...
