Re: O/T: timpani question
Yes, I've never seen those before--did you create them? HP is hardwired to recognize certain articulations, so try 39. In the default Finale document for 2014.5 it's numbered 34, though.

Re: Can't See Notes on Second Layer (Finale 2014)
Of course it changes noteheads, but does it explain the missing layer?

If that doesn't work, attach your file and we'll sort it out.

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking
I still have 2005 and you can mix fonts in a single expression, but I'm not sure I knew that at the time, hence my special Tempo font.

In general it works. You might have to attach a file illustrating the problem to find out what's different in your case.

Re: after cue notes on parts rests display wrong height in s
A way to hide cues in the score is to define a staff style as follows. Then you can leave the rests alone. Apply it to the score only, of course.

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking
In the bad old days before Finale had the tempo marks category with its three fonts, I went so far as to make my own "Tempo" font to avoid having to mess with mixing fonts.

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking
I agree the note is too big.
I've always liked the looks of italic numbers, but I have to admit that doesn't seem to be common practice.

Re: Measure stack is INVISIBLE! Hmmmm....
cymusician, probably the safest thing to do is to use "Redefine pages" on the entire score (Page Layout tool). This will undo any formatting you've done, though.

Somehow the system margins for systems 10 and/or 11 are screwed up. Do this to fix it:

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking
An alternative is to use Alt+0107 instead of a period, but you'll need to add a space in front of it, which may affect "Match playback to metronome marking text".

Re: dotted quarter in tempo marking
From the dialog in the expression designer, you can select the period and use "baseline shift" from the Text menu to raise it. Here's what it looks like with a value of 10.

Pick a dotted note from the Insert Note menu--don't type in a dot yourself.

You can do this with a real multimeasure rest by changing the rest symbol to a new shape for that rest. Here's an example:

Re: Strange Hanging Issue in Finale 2014.5?
Presumably you have tried rebooting your machine, and you're not running some external macro program such as Autohotkey which might be co-opting the R key. MakeMusic would probably advise you to reset your preferences, and that's the first thing to try. Close Finale and find your way to C:\Users\Mar...

Re: Accidental
Finale won't show an accidental on a different layer if both are visible, but if the layers are separated as shown below, the accidental is there. I guess if the top staff here represents two instruments, you would want a flat to appear on the first downstem note; you would use a courtesy accidental...

Re: extracting multi-stave parts
Instead of what Finale generates automatically, you can have a part contain whatever you want. Go to "Manage parts" and either create a new part or add staves to the existing violin part. I didn't realize that Finale's automatic part creation was based on staff names, but personally I would do this ...
