Ha! I hadn't even taken in that the OP was using the measure rather than selection tool… Must read more carefully!

PDFs, Finale 25, Mac

Some time ago it was pointed out by Peter Thomsen that PDFs exported via the graphics tool had advantages over those made via the print dialogue. True black was one (which has not really been noticed by me on my system either way), while file size was another. I had a fairly dramatic illustration of...

Sample rate

I remember receiving advice on this forum to go to MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup and there to choose the highest buffer size and the lowest sample rate for trouble free playback/audio export in F 25.5. I don't use playback a lot, but I have found that while the buffer size advice has been ...

Re: Musical exemple for .doc file

One way would be to use the Graphics tool in Finale and export a graphic. This is what I have done on occasion for inserting music examples into Apple Pages for the preliminary pages of a full score. I'd suppose one could do something very similar from Finale to Microsoft Word. Those on the forum wh...

Re: AIFF files still corrupted

If no-one comes up with a better idea, you may like to try splitting your file into smaller sections and then combining them with Audacity or similar. A little tedious, but possible. Only useful if your file is rather large, the problem should not occur at all with small files. I'm assuming that in ...

Re: Repeated notes with accidentals

On a Mac, if you want all the Gs in particular octave in one bar to become G#, in Speedy enter them as G natural then put the cursor on the first one and key option (alt) with + (including the shift key to get the + if using a keyboard without numeric pad). If you were to want them all to be G flat,...

That's on a Danish keyboard! On a UK one it's ⌥; ie Option plus semicolon to get … I'm not sure about on a US keyboard, but probably the same as on a UK one.

Re: Undo "new movement" in merged file

I think Mike may have meant to say go to the Page Layout tool. If you're in that, you should see a dotted outline of the margins, which can be dragged and adjusted, or you can, while in the tool, go to the Systems > Edit Margins dialogue.

A whole treatise might be written on when and by how much the volume might or might not increase when two or three instruments are playing in unison. Interference from marginally different intonation, differing rates of vibrato and more may completely counteract any increase in the weight of sound. ...

… … As a rule, I keep Page at 100%, system scaling at 100%, and just set the Staff Height. It's very easy to get confused if you have two or more of these things altered. (E.g. Text objects on the page will reduce to the Page Scaling; Text objects attached to the Staff will scale to the staff - unl...

Re: Cues with lyrics but no notes showing

Reminds me of a rehearsal of a small opera of mine in 1980(?). An orchestra musician asked the conductor for the last words of a section of spoken dialogue to write as a cue into his part, but the conductor accidentally read out the last words of a stage direction instead (which would have been of l...

… … … I didn’t even know how big Mr. Whitaker was when I introduced her to him six years ago (major dad points for me). Yes, even here in Scotland the local amateur choirs perform his pieces a lot. I got caught out by this multimeasure rest setting when I recently used a pre-set Finale template for a piece, instead of one of my own (which is what I usually do). I couldn't work out what was happening, but eventually discovered the cause.

Re: Recommendations for Computer speakers

I like headphones for Finale work. If I want good quality sound from a computer, I mostly either use bluetooth headphones or plug into the headphone output a longish cable which is permanently connected at the other end to my hi-fi. For mid-quality I have a quite old JBL ‘on the go’ double speaker ...

Cautionary percussion clef position

I see the reduced size cautionary percussion clef is still placed too low by default. Following this thread on the old forum https://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=6&m=378865 I attempted to follow Peter Thomsen's suggestions for modifying the clef in the Shape Designer. Unfortunately, although o...
