Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current
And as for me, I have had a lot of career experience translating all sorts of arcane files into xml or other data files. So that part is easy and fun. Now the entry of notes into a program of choice is another thing altogether, as I do note entry via computer keyboard. Excruciatingly laborious, righ...

Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current
Hey Chris,
That is spectacular! Did you do a MIDI/keyboard entry into Dorico? So nice.
We should ping the OP that his problem is addressed, if not solved!
Very nice work!

Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current
That exe looks like a demo also, michelp, and in addition wouldn't install on my Windows 10. I did get the demo of Encore 5.04 to install and open the Encore .mus file (Nocturne_p1.jpg and Nocturne_p2.jpg below) but because it is a demo (PassportEncore1.jpg) , it would not print to pdf, export to pd...

Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current
This demonstrates the problem of total reliance on file backups in the age of obsolete software versions and no longer supported hardware devices. Obviously, having good file backups is important and as demonstrated above they have to be carefully monitored and when necessary re-written in a new fo...

Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current
If you don't have a hardcopy backup, that .mus will open in Encore 5.x. If someone has that, they could export in another more useful format. The demo version doesn't allow that; all you can do is get a poor quality screenshot of the opened pages. A step in the right direction, but not really a solu...

Re: [URGENT] Finale Crashes Upon Startup
Just to paint with a very broad brush, you might try to install the latest Finale version. You are on Windows 10, I presume?

If all else fails, Giant Steps is included in the Hal Leonard ArrangeMe catalog. They take a hefty cut, but it is a way to get your work out there.

My big piece for 2022 Christmas https://youtu.be/tgxPlrAWG0Q Just Finale 27.3 and PL and NP3 as they come right out of the box. I use these also, and really appreciate them. I say I appreciate Finale, but I make no pretense to being able to use or even understand all of its options. However, the fa...

Thank you, Peter!
I had not delved deeply enough into Shape Designer to know that I could use it this way. I appreciate your help!

Bowing marks in parentheses
Where might I find, or how might I create, up-bow and down-bow signs in parentheses for my Articulation palette? I am using Finale Engraver for the most part.
TIA

Re: Issue Changing Fonts - Just rather start over
Good; I'm glad you figured out how to get it done. Finale is a mouthful of gristle to me, as nothing seems intuitive. And I have worked in IT for decades, and dealt with specialized, cranky software. I actually have expanded my cheat sheet to a cheat document, with headings I can search on, as I kee...

Re: Issue Changing Fonts - Just rather start over
Allow me to hasten to assert I am no expert. But I did develop a work flow to handle this issue. First, I have developed a couple of favored templates, with default music and text fonts I want to use, staff and page setup of choice, instrument naming and abbreviating, various spacing and text placem...

Re: ARNOLD ARNSTEIN -'Dean of American Copyists'
I took some classes in autography at San Francisco Conservatory in the late 80s, shortly before the first computer notation program I ever saw came out (Encore). The class was all about music calligraphy: shapes of notes, widths of stems and lines, curves, and dots and lengths and placement. It was ...

Key stroke for up and down bow
I am trying to facilitate entering a ton of bowing marks, in multiple parts, and opening and closing the Articulation Selection menu each time seems really unnecessary. But I cannot even shorten the process by specifying which mark I want with a specific keystroke (U or D in the articulation menu) w...

Re: Playback starting bar?
Good! Glad you got it solved. I can't tell from your response, but just to make sure you know: once you have specified in a document that you want to use "current counter setting" in the playback settings, the text box on the editing interface becomes writable, and you can just put your desired star...

Re: Playback starting bar?
How are you indicating your desired start point? I always specify "Current counter setting" In the Playback Settings menu, and have had zero problems. I'm in 27. I am pretty sure it has to be specified per document, but I haven't tested that. The fact that it is off by one measure makes me think tha...

Re: general forum question
Actually, I can't find my drafts, where are they? If you have saved your draft response to a post, using the button at the bottom of the text entry box, you will be given the option of loading that draft when you next post a reply. But I am pretty sure it only applies to the post you have drafted a...

Re: Copying text between documents
I might just make a copy of my favored document, and remove all but the salient text bits such as content, format and location. That would serve as a template. Then you would copy all the musical content of your second document into the template, and save as a third hybrid document, with the text wh...

Re: Recommended new printers--mine is terrible!
It sounds like more of a pdf creation problem than strictly a printer issue. I use both an HP laser printer and a Brother laser color printer, some 3-4 years old, with zero problems. What I see on my digital pdf is what I get in the printed version. What are you exporting your finale file to for pri...

Thank you, BuonTempi for your observationss. I will assume that Garritan's claim of backward compatibility is true, and go from there. And thanks for pointing out the support pages; this will help me deal with whatever might ensue.
