There are many sound libraries that allow control of vibrato. Finale ships with Garritan instruments for "free", but you're not limited to those.

Why not use the HP Preferences provided by VSL? They're setup to use the existing matrices.

If you create Human Playback preferences for your library, you can choose how Finale will control dynamics.

Play 6 is 64bit only and won't work in Fin2012.

Instead of copying the Play dll, you should add the path to where it is installed. I don't think the documentation was ever updated to say this.

Are we talking laptop of desktop system?

If desktop, you can always replace the video card with something that has the right input type and resolution.

Are you using the VSL Special Addition? They do provide HP settings for that.

Otherwise you need to create your own HP settings. Don't use the Garritan settings (the default). Dynamic controller will depend on is you have you instruments setup to use velocity cross-fade or not.

I'm having another look with the 2.0 demo. There's no online help for play mode. I appears you can only address 1 MIDI port (16Ch). Can that be true?

Seems like a long time to me too. Also, MM no longer has a presence on their Feature Request forum, as Michael Johnson has apparently left the company some months ago. Doesn't leave me feeling warm and cozy, with MM now owned by non-musicians.

I get that error when I've run another music app with ReWire.

Try going to Audio/MIDI - Device Setup - Reset Rewire.

I've never cared for the demos either, though a lot of Sib users seem to love it.
