Re: Adding Embedded Notation

Using a graphic is indeed the right way. I prefer to create a new expression which contains a shape which contains the graphic in question. This way, I can easily connect the graphic to any notation item, not only to a page, as is the default for simple graphics.

Re: Sol-Fa Input plug-in

It's fairly easy to put some stickers on your MIDI keyboard, key C saying "do", key D saying "re" and so on. Then transpose your MIDI keyboard, e.g. for a G major piece +7 semitones. Thus, you can press a C key and enter a note G which is a Do in G-major. Works with Speedy and Simple, and playback s...

Re: Wobble tool in Smart Shape?

Not with Smart Shapes, but with a JWLua script which creates a shape expression. The script can be found in the French Finale Forum http://finale-logiciel-aide-gravure-musicale.eu/index.php (you'll have to register to download it). It's called "Formes d'onde et boucles / Shapes : wavy lines and loop...

And, I'm trying both speedy entry icon as well as the easy entry icon to the right of it.
Are you sure you clicked on a measure to set the Speedy Entry input box into that measure? Selecting only the icon is not enough - just a shot in the dark.

Re: Still the best option???

Is this still the best option for handling the downstem on Fa? @peterqd, is the font still something you might be willing to share? Why not create the noteheads as articulations? For each articulation, there's an upstem and a downstem version. Hide all normal noteheads with the special tools and us...

Re: Setting keyboard shortcuts for various Tool menus on Windows?

The downside of this is that it's document related, but that's something for MM to improve. (Meaning that you'll have to do this anew in every new document. You can do this once to your default document, then all documents derived from this will inherit these settings. Indeed, Finale would benefit ...

The existing methods like mentioned above make Finale very easy to use via hotkeys. I would like to add programmable mouse buttons (like those to be found on gaming mice), Bome's MIDI Translator https://www.bome.com/products/mtclassic with which you can trigger anything inside Finale via MIDI comman...

Re: OT - time signatures - international terminology

In Poland time signatures are either ‘simple’ or ‘combined’. They are all based on 2 beats or 3 beats, so, for example 4/4 is a combined 2/4 + 2/4; 6/8 is a combined 3/8 + 3/8. This is not necessarily a typical polish terminology, but merely describes the historic origin of time signatures, which d...

If you write a score for a conductor, I suggest sticking to the orchestral order. If you write a score for chamber music purpose, thus mainly for reference, choose any order which makes sense.

JWLua: working with rehearsal marks

Hello all, I'm posting this for future reference, sort of work-in-progress to refer to. The following script collects information on letter and number rehearsal marks and displays them in the JWLua output window. A possible goal in the future would be to convert rehearsal marks to bookmarks, as requ...

In the Shape Designer (for either expressions or articulations), you can incorporate external graphics.
Indeed, this works well. It's the most versatile way of placing graphics. Insert a picture into a shape and control its placement and behaviour like any other expression.

That's a typical behaviour if Finale is set to external synchronization and thus waits to receive sync messages. Check this window: https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Fin ... E_SYNC.htm .

"Receive sync" must be set to "internal sync"
