Re: Dash

Were you typing anything other than a space or a dash between the syllables?

Are you using something other than a US keyboard?

Re: Problems using tablature

Your method may be part of the problem. It sounds like you used one of the "black box" programs which takes your picture and spits out an XML. So whatever errors may have been picked up in the scan (and I guarantee there were some) were buried in the XML. A program like SmartScore (which I use, but ...

And I don't understand the need for the cross-staff notes from the treble, since they are already in the bass staff.

Re: Dash

Select the syllable in the score or lyrics window, and retype it. That will keep the rest of the lyrics from shifting.

Re: Problems using tablature

Can you post the score, or at least part of it that shows the problem?

(You may not be able to post immediately, since you’re new to the forum. If that’s the case, post it to dropbox and give us a link.)

Re: Switch horizontal alignment of chord notes

Maybe it’s one of those “under the hood” fixes that they (claim to) make and don’t tell anyone. Or maybe it was an accident. Hard to tell, these days… And an off-the-cuff question, as I sit here looking at it. Assuming a 4/4 time signature, wouldn’t it be more correct to notate the layer one notes a...

Like Bill, they went in correctly for me. I don't have Auto Music Spacing turned on. On entry, the notes on beat one overlapped, but after applying music spacing (CMD-4) they jumped to this:

Re: Philip Rothman interview with Jason Wick, MakeMusic director of product development

I was not impressed. He spoke glowingly about all the features geared to the education market. But very little about Finale. He was proud of the fact that he’s been with Finale for ten years. Ten years! I’ve been a user for twice that long, and I’m still a beginner compared to many. He mentioned tha...

Me too. Especially with the JW and RGP Lua scripts, once I got over my fear of using them!

Re: Undertie 2 syllables

Elision, not liaison! It’s a new character in F27. I don’t think it was in jo’s F25. It can be entered as a font character. Type an upper case I (that's an I like in Input ) where you want it, between the letters in the lyric. Then, select the I, and go to the text menu. (Yes, the Text menu will sho...

GailF,

Can you post the score? If the solution above didn’t work, we need to look under the hood.

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC!!

My 2017 iMac is stuck at Ventura, and I would like to go to Sonoma. I have seen a couple of posts installing it on an external SSD, which I have, a 1TB Samsung T-7. Apple suggests buying a mini, and using that as the drive, which is certainly an option, but I'd rather keep the $700 in my pocket. I'm...

I hate to say it, but this time, it’s user error. Or at least, misunderstanding. If it's a misunderstanding or user error, then do please help me to understand or avoid the error! I thought I mentioned it originally, but looks like I didn't... Simple Entry is the goal. It's easier to show, than to ...

Re: What am I missing about this program?

Does Dorico use any plugins? Or are they trying to make the program so good, that plugins from “outsiders” won’t be needed?

Perfection is the enemy of good enough.

As we all likely know, the Set Default button in the Tuplet Definition dialog does not pick up the values to the left and right of "In The Space Of" -- sure wish it did, don't quite understand why it doesn't ;) I hate to say it, but this time, it’s user error. Re: masking

There is a Lua script, Expression Add Opaque Background. This will "add an opaque background to a single-staff expression in the currently selected region." If this doesn't quite do it, perhaps one of the experts here (not me, by a long shot!) can make it do better. https://www.finalelua.com/scripts

Re: What am I missing about this program?

If Finale still offered the entry level NotePad, and low-cost PrintMusic, they might not have so much trouble attracting new users. I followed that route, and I'm sure many others did, as well. Make no mistake, the full version is needed to take advantage of plug-ins, which enrich the app way beyond...
