Re: Finale 26 + NotePerformer3
I have to say that NotePerformer3 sounds pretty amazing right "out of the box." I'm used to doing full-blown mockups in a DAW with high-end sample libraries for my orchestral mockups. Although NotePerformer isn't quite on that level, for just a little bit of effort, it creates a really nice mockup. ...

Re: Override Volume
Yes, I'm using the MIDI tool and looking specifically for controller #7, but I don't see any. I know some instruments use Expression (#11) for dynamic control, so I checked that as well, but no luck.

Override Volume
I have a xylophone part that causes the fader on the Aria player to drop right before the part begins. Unfortunately, it makes the part too soft. I've tried searching for Controller 7 or 11 messages in the part, but don't see any. Is there a way to override the controller messages to the Aria mixer?

Re: Percussion Sustain Notation
I have to echo Zuill's suggestion of creating it as a shape expression and then assigning it as a metatool. I've done that in my default and template files and it works like a charm. I just created a tapered slur that begins at the 0, 0 position in the shape designer window and extends a little bit ...

Re: Change Symbol Font
As an alternative to doing this sort of thing in Finale, you might also consider purchasing the MetTimes font and doing this in a regular text editor like MS Word. You're limited to using Times as your text font, but for documents where you need to mix a lot of text with examples of notation, this c...

Re: How Finale spells chords
Chord spelling conventions tend to vary by musical style and tradition. I often find I need to create a custom suffix for a specific usage. In the case of the half-diminished chord, it's my understanding that in the pop/jazz idioms, the m7(b5) is MUCH more common than the half-dim slashed-circle. I ...

Re: Different Page Number Placement on Linked Parts
It's the page numbers I want to move, not the measure numbers. Even if I unlink them in all parts, if I move the page number location in one part, it moves them in all parts.

Different Page Number Placement on Linked Parts
Is there a way to position the page numbers in a different location on parts linked to the same score? Say I have two 3-page parts from the same score. I want one of the parts laid out side-by-side (3-up) and the other laid out like a booklet. On the side-by-side part, I'd like the page numbers to a...

Re: Cb to B
Hmmm, when I create the original key of F# Major and do a transposition of either 2, -10 (G# Major) or 3, -10 (Ab Major), I get a key signature of Ab Major in both cases--and that's with simplify key unselected in both cases.

Re: Cb to B
For this situation, you might want to consider the feature in the NoteMover Tool designed for this. It is called Search and Replace. The option I used was Down an Augmented 2nd for the transposition. The Enharmonic option yields the same result as in your other approaches. With this Tool, you can a...

Re: Cb to B
Peter's suggestion of 3, -10 was to change it from F# to the simplified key of Ab instead of G#. Unfortunately, the behavior of the 9 key for enharmonic shifting remains the same as before.

Re: Cb to B
Hi Peter, to answer your specific questions... 1. I'm using a MIDI keyboard for pitch input 2. I tried Respell Notes but it didn't have any affect on those pitches 3. Yes, I'm using the Bb transposition with simplify selected. When I get home, I'll try as you suggested and report. Thank you for the ...

Re: Cb to B
Just did a little experimenting: 1. If I create a piece in Ab major and (using speedy entry) enter B-natural and E-natural, they show as Cb and Fb respectively. Using the 9 key in speedy easily flips them to B- and E-natural. 2. If I create a piece in F# major, but with a Bb trumpet part, the transp...

Re: Cb to B
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions! I had tried the JW Pitch Change plugin, but it wouldn't work on those two pitches for some reason. Peter's suggestion of the - key followed by the N key was the process I had used before, but had forgotten. As I mentioned previously, I did find a way to fix it ...

Re: Cb to B
I have "Use Spelling Tables" selected. I tried changing it to "Use Default Spelling" but that didn't make any difference. I seem to recall from a post awhile back that there was a trick you had to do to make this work, but I couldn't find it searching the forum.

Cb to B
I have a piece where a section of it is in concert F# major. Bb Trumpets have been simplified to Ab major instead of G# major. There are a bunch of chromatic alterations in this section and I need to have B-natural and E-natural in some spots. Unfortunately, they show up as Cb and Fb respectively. W...

I also created a Harp Pedal category in the Expression designer that has diagrams for all the basic keys and included it in my default file. From there, it's easy to modify one for a custom diagram.

Re: Harp Pedal Notation
You can create pedal diagrams with the Engraver Text NCS font. O (shift-o) produces a middle position mark (natural) o produces a raised position mark (flat) p produces a lowered position mark (sharp) P (shift-p) produces the vertical line between the left and right pedals Thus, the diagram below is...

Re: Tremolo Questions
… I also looked in the Gardner Read's Music Notation and, interestingly, he shows the half-note tremolos touching the beams, but the quarter-note ones not touching. I didn't find an explanation of the difference, though. The key is the open notehead (= half note notehead). As you know, half notes a...

Re: Tremolo Questions
I get the impression the author has moved on and only does the minimum to ensure (most) things keep working when there's a new version of Finale, so don't expect new features. I think you can still download the full version and try it as a demo. Yeah, that's what I was sensing as well. Thanks for t...
