Re: Score/Part name placement off borders

I would choose Page Edge instead of Page Margin in the attributes so that the margins won't matter. I know you solved the immediate issue, but this might be helpful in the future if you want the page margins to be different for the score. Generally you may want it wider on the left to accommodate t...

Re: Creating a part from a group

Anyway, you can make a group appear in Manage Parts, in the rightmost column “Available Instruments”. The trick is that you must delete the Full Staff Name from the staves in the group. When the staves do not have a Full Name, the group will appear in Manage Parts. You can add the Full Name back wi...

Re: Creating a part from a group

Not quite sure what you want. For example, do you want a group in the linked part with, say, 2 other instruments? If so, just put those into the linked part, and then group them in the part. Maybe we need more clarification and details. Zuill Hi Zuill, Yes, that looks pretty much like what I want t...

Creating a part from a group

Hi forum,

Finale has this thing that the linked parts from grand staff instruments (Piano, Harp, etc.) are generated from the group, and not the individual staffs.

Is there a way I can do this as manually as well, to create a linked part by group and not by instrument?

Re: ScoreMerger disappearing titles

Hi forum, For the posterity: I finally stumbled upon the solution to this problem! After aligning all page margins of score & parts, i.e. giving all of them the same corresponding amount (top, bottom, left, right different but the same in both documents) the merge did not delete any text boxes anymo...

By the way, I doubt that PL means that you must use the plugin.
Yes, exactly what you're saying. PL's box 'highly recommends' the plugin.

Awesome, thanks all for the replies!

(And thanks elbsound for PL!)

Re: Score/Part name placement off borders

Right click on the score/part name, pick Edit Frame Attributes, take a screen shot of the dialog, and post it here. Normally you want it relative to the page margins, so if the margins are set up correctly, it will work in parts and score even if the page size is different. Hi motet, Here the scree...

To Power-Users: Patterson Beam Plugin

Hi Forum, I've just purchased Jan's "Perfect Layout" plugin and it's amazing! There's one thing I need a little clarification: In one step, PL recommends me to use Patterson's Beam Plugin. Now, my question is, which of the two beam plugins PL refers to (I reckon it's probably the beam selection plug...

Score/Part name placement off borders

Hi forum,

Some help needed.

When I create the a score/part name text insert and place it on the top left of the score, it falls off-border in the parts (see gif).

Any suggestions?

Thanks

is HP set to None? Also, there's a checkbox in Finales playback settings, but I don't see that in the pictures you posted. Have you set that properly? Zuill HP? I have not. I still get the same behavior setting HP to none, though. Do you mean the "Scrolling Playback" option? That one is off, alread...

MIDI Sync

Hi Forum, Maybe someone could share some insight. I'm trying to MIDI-sync Finale with a DAW (DAW as 'Timegiver', Finale as recipient). I get it about halfway working then get stuck. The configurations are in the pics. Here's the issue. If 'press play' in DAW, Finale catches play. It plays in the met...

Re: finale and cubase

A late post, but you might consider Tim Davies' approach. He's an AA motion-picture orchestrator/conductor and his professional life is centered around putting film-composer's DAW-files into Finale. Here is his video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeCuJfXhS9s&t=2757s He works from DP to f...

In that case, write all the notes on one staff and just use the Note Mover tool to drag the ones you want to the other staff.
Problem solved. Thanks once again, motet.

Re: Metric Modulation not respected

Traditionally, composers and editors have stuck to a common subset of numbers (e.g., 60, 72, 80, 108, etc.). One also saw these as settings on mechanical metronomes. As such, conductors tend to be familiar with the feel of these. The difference between 120 and 122, say, is not going to be noticeabl...

Re: Cross-beam angle

How did you do that? You want the reverse stem tool. Click on the measure (you may have to click in the upper or lower system, depending), then the handles underneath the notes to flip them. As Bill says, next time you do this, the cross-staff plug-in and its associated shortcuts are easier since t...

Re: Metric Modulation not respected

There's no need for a hidden expression. Just change the existing expression for the proper tempo. If you need that same expression elsewhere with a different tempo, just make a duplicate of the original first. This is the same advice Motet gave earlier (and you quoted in your post). Maybe you were...

Hi forum,

Could someone give me a hand with the last 3 notes of this arpeggio?

The notes are resized regular notes, not grace notes.

Re: Metric Modulation not respected

Does Human Playback recognize those? I'm not sure. I would just set the playback tempo of "quarter = dotted quarter" to dotted quarter = 149 and be done with it. Of course if you use that elsewhere and the tempo is different, you'll need to make a new one. Unsolicited advice: standard metronome mar...

Somehow I don't get metric modulations to play back.

The mms are in the Tempo Marks category.

In the same piece, or in a different one? If the latter, you can set up everything as you want it, and save it as a template, or in your document styles, or both.

JW wrote the JW Lua plug-in, indeed. But many developers have contributed with their own scripts for this plug-in. This particular script was conceived by Chris.
Good point. Jari's Lua has opened a good bit of traffic for other devs.

Cheers Chris, wherever you are!
