Re: Can Bravura be used as it is?
Use Aruvarb instead of Fravura. It is 100% Maestro compatible AND holds all symbols from Bravura in the unicode symbol area. So you can indeed apply a simple font change. Re: Arpeggio articulation
A one-click arpeggio is possible by using a single-length arpeggio symbol instead of the standard double-length arpeggio in Maestro.

Jeffrey, visually balanced staff spacing and snapping to the bottom margin of the page will be features of the Perfect Layout plugin. Re: Numbered one-bar rests
You could use a simple JW Lua script: local mmrests=finale.FCMultiMeasureRests() mmrests:LoadAll() --loads all mm rests for m in each(mmrests) do --checks all mm rests if m.StartMeasure==m.EndMeasure then --if start masure = end measure, i.e. if one measure duration m.Width=180 --set multi-measure r...

Re: inconsistent hairpin ends
No, that's not possible. But it also has to do with simple geometrics: if you look at image of the hairpins above, you'll see that if the very wide hairpins did not have flat ends, they would have a very long black start which probably would look clumsy. The bug is that many hairpins don't start at ...

Re: inconsistent hairpin ends
Finale is indeed buggy regarding the ending of hairpins. Screen and print/PDF can be different, because there is "skip" in the drawing of hairpins that depends on a few parameters (e.g. width of the hairpin): it jumps between sharp ends and flat ends and described in the thread above. For the Perfec...

Re: notes not even spaced when changing bars
Exclude lyrics from spacing. Uncheck Document Options->Music Spacing->Avoid Collision of->Lyrics.
But this may lead to collisions of lyrics when they are wider than the space for the notes.

Re: What computer specs would be perfect for Finale?
So, faster computers are faster! Yes, but it's not as simple as that. Finale doesn't make use of multiple CPU cores. So while Finale is about twice as fast on my 2018-PC compared to my 2009-PC, rendering in my audio or video editing software is about 22 times as fast. Lua Script (can this report th...

Re: What computer specs would be perfect for Finale?
Three months ago I added a comparison of Finale/Windows plugin processing speeds from three computers to the notat.io forum. As Finale is single-threaded the speed of the processor (=GHz) determines the workflow. Windows Vista, Laptop (from 2009, 3 GB, 2,5 GHz, P9500, AMD Radeon 3400): Single-thread...

How do you print?
Do you use a printer or do you print to PDF?
If to PDF, do you use Finale's Export to PDF function or do you use a virtual PDF printer?

You might also consider using other music fonts made for word processing software. E.g. the "Musi"-fonts by Robert Allgeyer (MusiSync, MusiTone and MusiQwik). They are accessible through the keyboard and don't need any extra symbol picking software. And MusiTone and MusiQwik are come with regular, b...

Re: Tied note after one-measure repeat sign
I don't know if there is a better workaround, but you could do the following: As the tie end is shown if the previous measure is the last measure of a repeat bracket, add a backward repeat bracket and an ending bracket to the previous measure, then set the staff style (one-bar, etc.) to hide the rep...

I'd add the Opus fonts to MacSymbolsFonts.txt too.
The Opus Percussion font that I have uses the 0xF000 area and these fonts should be in MacSymbolsFonts.txt.

Re: Measure numbers font
If you have a piece with more than 100 measures, there is often not enough space for measure numbers in parts in a "standard" text font like Arial. In this case a condensed font often fits better while maintaining the readability. Here are some suggestions for some common condensed measure number an...

Yes, I have heard of this. I work mainly on Windows. So I haven't tested if the problems that I describe in the blog also occur on MacOS, but maybe they do. So my suggested solutions may also apply to MacOS (e.g. typing the font name without blanks or adding a font weight like "Wide" to the font nam...

Re: Maestro fonts (Wide & Regular)
Here is a blog entry about font names in Finale with a few more tricks. For example sometimes Finale only recognizes the PostScript font name instead of the standard name. Typing the font name without blanks can also be an option. https://elbsound.studio/font-names-in-finale.php At the end of the ar...

Re: What do these signs mean?
I'd recommend downloading the SMuFL/Bravura PDF in these cases as it gives each music symbol a more or less self-explaining name. And as Fravura Extra is based on Bravura, it must be documented there. The latest PDF is version 1.18: http://www.smufl.org/files/smufl-1.18.pdf Newer versions are only a...

It seems to have been included in older versions of Finale and is for example mentioned in the manual of Finale 2005: "Con Finale vengono forniti due font aggiuntivi (LyricsTimes e LyricsHelvetica) in grado di inserire al posto dello spazio invisibile una piccola legatura fra le sillabe che condivid...

Re: Squares instead of letters: txt not available in older f
This seems to be a typical problem of old Finale files created with the LyricsTimes/LyricsHelvetica font. Here is an older solution from an Italian Finale forum that also includes a zip of the repaired font files. http://www.midimusic.it/assistenza_finale/finale.htm#fontlyrics (to be able to read th...

Re: tempo equations
Interesting topic. I thought that this would have been possible with SMuFl (i.e. the Bravura font). But it seems like it isn't - or only if you work with baseline correction. SMuFL supports many of the symbols above, but not a "tuplet bracket extension" and not the "5" and "6" at the correct baselin...

John, your file shows fine on my Windows 10/Fin25: both with Maestro and when I change it manually with "Set Default Music Font" to Wess' VintageECP1 font. So it could be a FAN issue.
