Thanks very much, all
While finger poking, I've noticed Utilities>Change>NoteSize. Is that an alternative to the % tool, perhaps? Same / same?
HP.
Update: Ok, I think I have worked it out now... The Utilities>Change route is good for doing batches of notes.

Too many notes
Hi all, In my score, the piano has some passages of 32nd notes. But I have trouble fitting two bars to a system without note collisions. For these bars, I intend to reduce the size of those piano passages by a certain percentage. Is there a plugin for this? With thanks, Hector. PS: Alternatively I g...

Thank you, Michel, for your advice.
I will re-attempt the cross staff version. My initial cross staff attempt looked like the dog's breakfast!

Piano L and R hands
Hi all, I have a motor rhythm and I experimented with cross staff notes but it made it harder to read, so I think I'll stay with my original and just put L and R hand indications. After the first bar of it, I'll put "sim.". Do you reckon that using L and R is a satisfactory way of expressing the int...

Re: Sustained notes
Thanks, Michel. I will take a look around in the aria settings.
I will also test out the music on a real piano to see how long all the notes will sustain at various dynamics.
Cheerio,
Hector.

Sustained notes
Hi again, When I playback a lengthy undamped piano arpeggio of say 6 bars, by the time the last bar is near, the first notes may be heard to switch off. Am I noticing Finale's polyphony limits here? Or is there a setting that I can tweak, perhaps? I am using Garritan Instruments for Finale Steinway....

Piano pedal question
Hi all, In my bar of piano music, I would like the piano pedal lift on the 5th beat. I have a crotchet rest in the Piano RH which could serve to accurately indicate the position of the pedal lift. Should I also use these rests in the LH as it is closer to the pedal lift indication? Screen Shot 2021-...

Re: Paper colour
Many thanks, all. I don't seem to have warm white / buff available in my area, but I have found some matte, greyish-white paper in my local area and will see how that goes in my laser printer.

Re: Best piano score format settings
Hi all,
Just revisiting this older post and appreciating the wisdom contained therein...
Question: Document Settings> Beams > Maximum Slope, should I choose 0.5 or 1?
Gould shows an example of 0.5 and 1 on p.19, so I am thinking I will set the maximum as 1.
What do you think?
Cheers,
HP.

Paper colour
Hi all, Do you recommend printing out music on the yellowish/buff/off-white paper these days? In my library of classic piano music from Schirmer / Henle Verlag, etc. there is a lot of yellow tinted paper and it is quite nice to read from. What colour paper do the major orchestras prefer to use these...

Re: Notation question
Thanks, John! You have been very helpful, especially regarding the expansion and contraction of the stem spacing immediately before and after the change of stem direction. I had not thought to tweak that spacing.
Cheers and thanks,
Hector.

Notation question
Hi all, I am notating this bar of piano music and am wondering if my use of cross staff notes and reverse stems is ok? Suggestions for improvement are welcome. Possibly the height of the beams needs a bit of correction... and also the final LH Bb needs an accidental, and my slurs are a bit ugly. Apa...

Thanks, Buontempi, for your help. Btw, to see all the relevant drivers, I first select the OS 11 pull down menu and then when one driver is displayed I click on the plus sign at the bottom to reveal the three driver options. I've heard it said that musicians were very much sought after as codebreakers at Bletchley Park during WWII. Interesting subject!

Re: Export from finale to PDF
My suggestions:
Try a different printer driver, as I have an idea that it may play a part in PDF export.
Also, another thing to try might be to export as a postscript file, then convert that to a PDF.
Hope these ideas might help... good luck in any case!
Cheers,
Hector.

Hi all, I'm getting a new printer for printing my Finale output. There are three different drivers available for the printer: 1. Driver type = PDF 2. Driver type = PPD (PS) 3. Driver type: PS Which is the best choice for me to use? (ie: I plan to sometimes print straight from Finale, but mostly I'll...

Pasting a syncopated motif
Hi all, I have a piece in 4/4 and it has lots of the following: dotted quaver beamed to a semiquaver. When I copy that and paste to another bar, it notates a quaver tied to a semiquaver followed by a semiquaver. Is there a way to paste without the adjustment? I had a look in Document Options, but no...
