That certainly would be the easiest solution, and in fact I do that other places in the piece!

Re: Partially hiding ties so they don't go through notes
Thank you, Peter. How do you do that, though, other than having very high arch shapes, which look bad?Peter Thomsen wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 3:32 amTies are allowed to go through vertical lines, such as barlines, stems, accidentals.
You should avoid letting ties go through noteheads, though.

Re: Tuplet bracket hooks in opposite directions
Right click on the tuplet handle and pick Tuplet Definition. In the right hook and left hook settings, one should be a positive number and the other negative. Aha! I discovered the missing step. I needed to uncheck "match hook lengths". Now I am able to get them to go in opposite directions. Thank ...

Partially hiding ties so they don't go through notes
Is there a way to partially hide ties so that they don't go through noteheads, as is possible to set them not to go through time signatures? Adjusting the height of the ties sometimes looks really terrible, as in the attached screenshot, "Ties with height adjusted". I tried putting the the chord tha...

Re: Tuplet bracket hooks in opposite directions
I've isolated the measure with the triplet in question, in case anyone can see why making one hook length a positive number and one negative is working to making the hooks point in different directions.

Re: Tuplet bracket hooks in opposite directions
Greetings! Can someone tell my why one might need a tuplet bracket with hooks in the opposite direction? The only thing I can think of would be a tuplet bracket in the middle of a harp or piano pair of staves to apply to a triplet on each stave. Am I close? Andreo You are exactly right about that!

Right click on the tuplet handle and pick Tuplet Definition. In the right hook and left hook settings, one should be a positive number and the other negative. I've tried this several times now, and even with one hook a negative number and the other a positive number of the same length, both hooks s...

How do you have one tuplet bracket hook go up and the other go down?

Re: Stuck with unwanted Bold Italic Text Blocks
Oh man ... now I'm livid. I recently upgraded to Ventura, and this Times/Times New Roman Italics bug started happening. (Plus a couple of other bugs in Finale 26.) And so I read this thread and decided to finally upgrade to 27. ...and the issue is still happening. This is really unacceptable. It is...

Re: Measure Number Regions Won't Display Correctly
Hello everybody, Thank you for this discussion as I just encountered this bug. Resetting the style was the key to work around the issue and then I had to adjust font, positioning and other settings on each of my regions. Adding my vote asking the Finale team to fix this bug... 4 years later! Cheers...

Re: Things that disappear/change when you hide or add staves
Yes--apply the first one, then right-click on it and change the "sequence" to start where you want. Got it! Maybe there is another way to do it, but I had to create a new "Rehearsal Marks" category in order to have a new score list apply. In any case, that was not hard, and it worked! You've solved...

Re: Things that disappear/change when you hide or add staves
1. I think you can make staff styles with different names. 2. I would create a different category for that movement and use a different score list. Thank you! 1. That worked like a charm! 2. I was hoping to keep the rehearsal marks continuous through all three movements, but your suggestion would r...

Things that disappear/change when you hide or add staves
I am editing a three-movement band piece; all movements are in one continuous file. The instrumentation changes a little bit in the second movement and again in the third, and some instruments are tacet in the middle movement. Two questions: 1. Is there a way to rename staves at the beginning of mov...

Re: Low brass not playing in playback
Problem solved:
When I copied and pasted movement 2 so that it was one document with movement 1, the problem disappeared. I still don't understand, but I am glad.

Re: Low brass not playing in playback
Not quite an actual answer to your question, but if you are only using sounds for proofing, if you switch to horrible MIDI sounds the Euphonium is there. ::: Bill Stevens Very weird! I switched the low brass to their MIDI instrument sounds, and they are still not playing back for me! I wish I under...

Re: Converting File with Petrucci to Maestro
I think Daniel Spreadbury of Dorico was the main person behind SMuFL, no? The main advantage seems to be in portability between different music typesetting programs, though it seems like MusicXML already takes care of that for the most part without SMuFL, and least for standard notation. I guess ev...

Low brass not playing in playback
In the attached file, the low brass—trombones, euphonium, and tuba—are not playing back. Admittedly, with some of them that are doubling other instruments, it's hard to tell, as I have everything set to play back as "Steinway Piano"; I only use the playback for proofing, and it's easier for me to he...

Converting File with Petrucci to Maestro
I'm editing a score from 1995, back when Petrucci was the thing. When I try to change the Default Music Font in the Document menu, I get an error message saying that Finale does not support doing this—which is a mystery to me, as I have converted from Petrucci to Maestro many, many times in the past...

Re: Weird spacing between layers
I don'tknow if this is useful (after all the already good comments), but selecting measure 26-29 and using JW Change > Note Entries, you can line up layer 1+2 (clear position) or, by applying a value that suits you, use horizontal position (to offset layer 2 correctly). Isn't that what you wanted t...
