Re: Setting keyboard shortcuts for various Tool menus on Windows?

One way is to press the Alt key. You'll see the T underlined in Tools in the menu bar. If you press T, then you'll see all the tools, and also underline letters you can type, or select with the arrow key. Thus, Alt-TM would select the Measure tool. This works in most Windows applications, by the way...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. I was looking on the MIDI/Audio menu instead of the MIDI Tool menu.

Re: Old Files Acting Up

Buried somewhere in the Finale menus is a way to actually remove those Human Playback notes rather than just hiding them, but I can't find it at the moment.

Re: Spacing: expand/contract multiple notes?

You could click on the sharp note's handle and move those notes to the right, then move everything left, except that Shift doesn't work on the first note!

Re: Spacing: expand/contract multiple notes?

Yes, I was asking a different question from the OP's.

I didn't know about Shift--thanks, Mike! Looks like it selects everything to the right of what's clicked on. Not exactly what one might want, but definitely a help. Another bizarre tool!

Re: Spacing: expand/contract multiple notes?

My question was, suppose I want to move all the notes to the left of the sharp here further to the left by the same amount, keeping the spacing between those notes intact. There doesn't seem to be any way to drag more than one note at a time. The handle-like boxes don't seem to be handles that you c...

Re: Spacing: expand/contract multiple notes?

Not wat the OP asks, but is there a way to move more than one note at a time with the beat chart? Suppose I want the widen the space between two notes but otherwise keep all spacing the same.

Re: OT - time signatures - international terminology

If 4/4 is "combined" as Andreo said, it's not just a matter of taste.

Re: OT - time signatures - international terminology

Never heard of "combined." In any case, you perhaps still want to distinguish between what most people call simple and compound, which it looks like the Polish system doesn't do.

Re: Anybody know how to discipline Autosave?

Several thoughts: There's no key combination I know of that manually triggers Autosave. Finale doesn't crash very often for me (when it does, it's usually a JW plug-in). I do have big files and it can be annoying if Autosave runs when your right in the middle of some edit, so I have it set to 15 min...

Re: Cues in divided parts

In some published large orchestral works--Mahler and Strauss, for example--the combined staves may contain different distributions of parts from system to system. In one place, there might be horn 1+2 on one stave and 3+4 on the other, and in another place it might be 1+3 and 2+4. This would be impo...

Re: Cues in divided parts

Maybe I'm nut understanding, but what I'm suggesting adding new staves: Flute 1, Flute 2, Bassoon 1, Bassoon 2, etc., and using Explode or JW Staff Polyphony to easily tease apart what your client gave you. Then proceed as you normally do. Again, there are ways to keep these new staves out of the pr...

Re: Cues in divided parts

Can you explode (or JW equivalent) the voiced parts into separate staves and use those for the linked parts? There are ways of omitting them from the printed score.

ewindels inspired me to change "baritone oboe" to the more common English term, "bass oboe." That's the only change.

Re: Can't print a linked part

If you're still reading, ewindls, the part name (which appears in the print dialog) can be changed with Document/Manage Parts/Edit Part Definition/Edit Part Name..., but it's just cosmetic and won't fix your problem.

Re: Can't print a linked part

If you'll read carefully, you'll see he wants it to say "bass oboe," not cello. Since he converted from cello, though, the part name, being rather arbitrary, still says "cello." But the problem he complains of is that he can't print it for some reason.

Re: Error Reading Archive File (s)

There do seem to be two separate issues. One is that Finale creates temporary files it needs, but neglects to keep them open or otherwise lock them. If they're in the default place of %localappdata%\temp on Windows (which translates to something like C:\Users\Username\AppDate\Local\temp), the system...

Here's the print dialog from his original file (and I can print it). It's true the part says "bass oboe," but it has nothing to do with printing.

Re: Error Reading Archive File (s)

Perhaps the .bakx was the previous version, since you posted a .musx file here. The backup file feature is good to have on, as you've discovered. I stand by my temp file guess, so you might want to follow the advice above.

Re: Error Reading Archive File (s)

The reason I suspected the temp file bug is that one of the error messages I get refers to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp, the default place Finale puts temp files, but I've got my Finale set to point elsewhere. Perhaps the file got saved in some intermediate state? In any case, you're probably out of luck, al...
