Re: How to display distance between staffs
As far as I can tell, Finale displays the distance between staves only if they are grouped. The distance is shown not only while dragging a staff but also when clicking on a staff handle and holding down the mouse button. If the distance appeared also for non-grouped staffs, spacing sections in a sc...

How to display distance between staffs
In one document, I managed to enable the Staff Tool so that clicking on a staff handle and holding down the mouse button displays the distance between staves (in inches). But I don't recall how I managed to do it. I think I have looked everywhere in the settings, except where the control is. Anybody...

Not sure what is so appealing about GUI shades that are (IMHO) hard on the eyes. Fortunately the genius that chose to print dark gray lettering on my black Yamaha Surround Sound system is not working for MakeMusic.

v26.3 update requires a version of Runtime that is not available
While updating to v26.3.0.512, I was prompted for "vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi" that is unavailable (Google found nothing with this name). So I continued the setup then downloaded "vc_redit.x64.exe (14,624 KB)" from Microsoft, thinking an independent installation of the latest runtime package would ad...

It works! Now I'm really confused.
I tried a different document, so I'm guessing the file is corrupted.
Thanks for your saintly patience.

Re: Does the "Respace Staves" tool work?
I resurrected my will to try the "Respace Staves" feature again, this time working with a simpler score, a drum solo. But no matter what parameters I enter in the fields under " Space Above Each Selected Staff ," the spacing remains fixed when I click OK. I did unlock all systems in Utilities. Havin...

Does the "Respace Staves" tool work?
The Staff Tool lets me globally adjust the distance between the top staff system and the top of the page, but I have had to mouse-drag all other staves below because none of the three options in the dialog window work for me, not in any combination with the four selections. I would really be gratefu...

Re: Anacrusis and the last bar
The conservative mindset will want to follow the convention of deducting the value of the anacrusis from the last measure, or last measure in the section, to render the score as symmetrical. But you should not be crucified making the end measure full and ignoring the asymmetry as long as the time is...

Re: Can't hear clash cymbals
Try "Reassign Playback Sounds" (in MIDI/Audio drop-down menu). Toggling between Garritan and SmartMusic in Score Manager may also unlock the audio, or switching instruments temporarily. I would firstly check the volume settings in "VST Banks and Effects" and/or the Mixer as Finale can surreptitiousl...

Re: Speedy CapsLock tuplet entry Undo
The question is out of my league, but have you tried entering the notes with "Fill with rests at end of measure" unchecked in "Speedy Options"? When I run into issues, I find disabling automation often helpful. Just a thought.
Maybe creating a different key map might work.

Re: Help with a new hymnal
I think the OP merely overlooked the copyright issue. If a hymn is "traditional" or author "unknown," he may copy the work. If the arrangement is copyrighted then permission is probably required. No harm in asking for permission from the publisher, who might not insist on financial compensation; sin...

Re: Inputting notes in the middle of the measure
If you uncheck "Check for extra notes" and "Fill with rests at end of measure" in Simple Entry Options, you will be able to perform such editing, even with complex tuplets in the measure. But then you will need to be careful you end up with the correct value of notes for the time in the measure as a...

Re: Copying and pasting measures
You may want to use the context menu for copy and paste or copy and insert, which I think is more expedient: with the Selection Tool, right-click in a measure -> Copy -> right-click in target measure -> Paste. By holding down the "Shift" key, you can copy and paste as many measures as you like.

Re: "Plug-ins" missing from upper text menu
Thanks to everybody for the kind suggestions. I discovered the issue when attempting to use Jari's Meter and Rhythm plug-in. I did try switching between tools, closing Finale, even rebooting my PC. Adding a path to all subfolders with virtual instruments in "Manage VST Plug-in Directories" did not r...

No end to surprises in Finale. Now "Plug-ins" has disappeared from the upper text menu. Any way to restore it, without re-installing the program?

Re: Is changing a score from 3/4 to 6/8 possible?
I had no difficulty changing a score with simple notation, from 3/4 to 6/8, using Finale's option. But a score with many tuplets, ornaments, articulations and expressions apparently cannot be changed without loss of playback synchrony among instruments, and notation in staffs with polyphony horribly...

Re: Is changing a score from 3/4 to 6/8 possible?
Attached is the horrible result I got after page 1 that played back OK. I deleted pages 2 to 20 for smaller file size. By the 4th page, some of the instruments were not processed, so playback incrementally went out of sync. Expressions and articulations were scattered. I faithfully entered dotted ha...

Re: Is changing a score from 3/4 to 6/8 possible?
Thanks, especially for the tip about entering rests for empty measures before the time change. The score is lead vocal and harmony, piano, three types of guitars, D.S., Bass, violin section, cello, synth, chimes and choral (oohs and aahs). I will get the plug-in.

Re: ties or l.v.
Since you are not concerned about playback, use of the Slur Tool for a truncated tie is an option, which lets you control the length of the artificial tie on the fly. But this option may be too time-consuming if the score has many instances where the option is applied. I often use L.V. if writing ex...
