Ian, thanks. It's a credit to you that your works were recommended by those musicians. It is helpful to know about the preference for published works... thanks.

ABRSM repertoire
Hi all, Apologies for being O/T, but... Has anyone amongst us ever contributed works to ABRSM syllabi over the years? I can't find much info on the net about the process of how a composer contributes repertoire (i'm thinking original repertoire). Any suggestions, links, etc, would be really useful. ...

Pasting without changing clef
Hi all, When I drag a bar of bass clef piano melody into a clarinet stave, the notes appear correctly transposed upon arrival on the clarinet stave, however the clarinet clef changes to a bass clef. Is there a way I can paste so that the clef doesn't change and perhaps also the pasted music gets put...

Re: Finale 27 compatibility with Big Sur
I'm happy using Fin26 with Big Sur. I think I'll stick with it for a bit longer. For the sake of Big Sur, I had to let go of an old photoshop elements and MS Word. I opted for the free Mac Pages software instead of Word, and I use some open source graphics software instead of PSElements. I also reco...

Re: italian musical term
Yes, I agree context plays a part. In the case of my usage, it is in the context of music that depicts someone who is feeling a bit drunk (ie: too much alcohol)... Also, in terms of context, the publisher house style favours Italian descriptors. About the spelling, it would appear that it is ok. Tha...

Re: Enharmonic question
Thanks, all, for the reassurance about using the "correct" spelling. I think what happened with me is that I entered the music in quickly via midi keyboard and sometimes the wrong enharmonic sneaked in and then I got used to seeing it wrong. Then when it came time to polish and correct, my eyes didn...

Re: Enharmonic question
Thank you motet and zuill. I concur. I feel most inclined to use what is correct in theory, despite it looking "funny". True, if one raises the fourth in other minor keys, then it makes sense to do so here. Maybe, in time, B sharps will thank me for making them look less "funny". Cheerio and thanks,...

Enharmonic question
Hi all,
I'm in the key of F# minor and the melody goes C# D C# C natural C# D natural E# F#.
I am debating with myself if I should replace the C natural with a B#.
I tend to think the B# is most correct, however it looks funny...
Thoughts?
Hector.

Re: Placement of Arranger name
Thanks, Ian. Sorry my picture wasn't clear. What I am showing in the picture is actually just the right hand side of the page (showing the composer as TRAD. and under it, my name). The title is not shown in my picture, but I've placed it in the normal centre position. Anyway, thanks. I think I am ha...

Hi all,
I'm arranging a folk tune by Trad. and was wondering, do I put my name (as arranger) under Trad, like so...? Thanks for any advice.

Hector.

Staff names at beginning of movements
Hi all,
I have staff names showing at the beginning of score, but I would also like to show them at the beginning of Mv 2 and Mv 3.
I looked in the manual, but couldn't find anything. Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Hector.

rests in 6/8
Hi all,
In 6/8, I have this bar:
Finale seems to like the use of the 2 quaver rests. Would the use of a crotchet rest (instead of 2 quaver rests) be more "correct"?
Cheerio,
Hector.

Re: semiquaver vs staccato quaver
In answer to myself, I suppose that the tempo would be the deciding factor.... because a staccato would always be short, whereas a semiquaver may not be short at a slow tempo.

semiquaver vs staccato quaver
Is there a general rule with regard to using a garden-variety semiquaver (followed by a semiquaver rest) instead of a staccato quaver? For example on the first beat of a bar after a semiquaver run, should I use a staccato quaver, or should I use a semiquaver? (In either case, I would want a slur to ...

Re: Random re-draw issues...
I have experienced that blank redraw once in recent weeks and am using the latest Mac OS and latest Finale. I've occasionally seen it in the past with older OS's and Finale versions, too. I think I use Command D and then if that doesn't help, I open a New Window and close the mischievous one. Not su...
