MusAnalysis
I'm happy to announce MusAnalysis is now available on Notation Central ! MusAnalysis is a text font that allows you to type Roman numeral and functional analysis into the score. It uses glyphs from Academico and Bravura and is designed to be legible at small point sizes. It works in Dorico, Finale, ...

Re: MusGlyphs
I’m not trying to pass the blame off, but I really think this is a bug in the text tool. That large extra space is simply unexplainable, as it simply shouldn’t exist between those glyphs. Of course that fixes nothing for the user that wants it, but… I am discovering that creating fonts that use OT f...

UGH. You're right. I have no idea why that's not working. It works fine in Dorico, Sibelius, Word, etc... I'll look into it.

Re: MusGlyphs
Yes, you absolutely need kerning and ligatures in Word for nearly everything in MusGlyphs.
You need to add underscores on either side of those numbers. ___1___2___3___ etc.

Does Finale support OT on Windows?
Does Finale support OpenType features on Windows, such as LIGA and CALT? If so, does anyone know what version started supporting this functionality?
I know it does on Mac... wondering about Windows specifically.

1. Fair enough. Trust me, it works! I’ll try to include some examples in the PDF.
2. It’s published under SIL OFL, which is the same license used for Bravura and Academico. All above-board. It’s free to download and modify.

MusGlyphs
A bit OT, but it may interest some of you. I’ve used glyphs from Bravura and Academico to create MusGlyphs. It’s a font that allows you to type musical symbols directly into a word processor and combine them with text using intuitive key commands. You can download it for free here: https://github.co...

Dorico 3.1, which just came out, greatly improves XML import. I’d call it quite functional now, though of course there’s always room for improvement.

I'll wait until the 1. of January. If there still is roaring silence considering noticeable development, that will be it. I recognize it's bad form to proselytize here as a general rule, but since you asked... I switched from Finale to Dorico 18 months ago. It took me two weeks to become as fast as...

Re: On to Dorico
I am curious what Dorico would do with the problem in the first link above I posted, with the flats colliding vertically. It seems like Finale uses a rectangle around the accidentals instead of "kerning" them. Here's the passage in Dorico, with no manual adjustments. I'm not crazy about the final s...

Minion Pro is free to download and use. I downloaded it, legally, and use it almost exclusively in my house documents.Simon_Furey wrote:Thanks, Peter. Sadly the PC version of the package does not include that font. However, I have now managed to acquire a copy.

Finale Numerics?
Is it possible to get the Finale Numerics font without owning Finale?
I'm on v25 and use Numerics for Roman numeral analysis, but I'm looking to share some examples via text with other musicians that don't have Finale.
Just curious. Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, double click on the handle to move the staff down. It’ll move all of them the same.

I haven’t gotten that far yet. The documentation is in progress. In the meantime, check out of the Dorico YouTube channel, go to playlists, “how to: play mode.”

Re: Choral arrangers, what fonts do you use?
Mike, here's one example (attached), if it's helpful. We have been singing from our hymnal for several years now, and I think it's proved to be very legible overall. YMMV. Note that, because of a lot of resizing in the file, the *actual* font size ends up being around 9.8. If I were to do it over ag...

Re: Choral arrangers, what fonts do you use?
Well, for our hymnal, I used 10-point Minion Pro. It's been very well received, even by our older folks. I like Minion Pro because it has a proportionately tall x-height (the height of the lowercase characters). That makes it much easier to read than, say Garamond. Also, it's a little darker (stroke...

Re: Mixing fonts in a custom character map?
Thanks, that's exactly what I was wondering.
Darn that "p" in November. No way I want to get into creating fonts!
I'll probably end up doing what you suggested: mixing and matching articulations and customizing tempo/expressions.
