Facepalm, thanks.
For some reason, I thought it was harder.

Mixing fonts in a custom character map?
I've been looking into different kinds of music and text fonts, and I've gotten a lot of helpful insights from engravers about different stylistic choices. I hear a lot of people say they use one font for noteheads, another for stems, another for clefs, etc. Personally, I'd like to change out the "p...

Re: Can you create a video file from a scrolling playback?
I'd recommend something like Movavi Screen Capture. I use it all the time and it's excellent. You can select the window (1280x720 or whatever), click record, and play your file in scroll view. Then you can do a little simple editing (basic fade in and fade out maybe) and, voila!

Re: Dorico, Finale, and crystal balls
@mghaub: again, not trying to proselytize here, but the first step is to watch the excellent tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIOwP19omIVDSUq2rTGgHKw/playlists?shelf_id=7&view=50&sort=dd If you just jump in, I agree it's frustrating and baffling. But I watched the tutorials first—actually...

Oh geez.
Zuill, do you accept credit? Or do you prefer ca$h?
That is to say, I'm an idiot, and thank you.

Custom chord suffixes no longer working?
Seems lame, but I had to create a whole bunch of "custom" chord suffixes because using an italiziced font for the chord symbols made the suffixes too squished. I made a custom chord suffix library, exported it, and have been importing it every time I need it. It's been working fine—for example, A133...

Re: New upgrade to Finale.
The [Dorico] workflow is terrible... Wake me up when it’s ready. I don't think the workflow is going to drastically change in the future, as the philosophy behind it formed the basis for the entire interface. It may be that you just don't care for it, which is fine. I agree some features are not ye...

Re: Dorico, Finale, and crystal balls
I'll also add that I've logged about 5 or six hours over the past week watching and re-watching the tutorials, pencil in hand. I just started to jump in to actually scoring yesterday. I'm happy to say that, after 20 years in Finale, this is a surprisingly easy switch. Dorico is making sense to me mo...

Re: Dorico, Finale, and crystal balls
if you have a developed personal workflow and knowledge of Finale, there is at this point no reason to switch to Dorico. Maybe some day, in the future ... (and/or if you start using a notation program for the first time and have the patience to wait for their updates to implement what often are eve...

@miker: I'm 36!
Your point is well-taken. To be honest, I'm getting tired of all the micro-tweaks in Finale. Usable orchestral scores for my players require sometimes an hour of manual adjustments. I'm tempted.

Dorico, Finale, and crystal balls
I've used Finale daily since 1999. I know it well for what I do - standard sorts of stuff, and sometimes some engraving nuances. Like most of you, I have hotkeys, custom libraries, and lots of templates that I've amassed over the past (almost) 20 years. I don't have any major complaints. Finale work...

Understanding page resize and staff height
I've been trying to better understand staff size, rastral numbers, and Finale settings. I've been really helped by Robert Puff's post ( http://www.rpmseattle.com/of_note/understanding-controlling-staff-height-size-in-finale/ ) and Peter Thomsen's comment ( https://www.finaleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: Adding a custom chord suffix to a slash chord
To be clearer: I want a chord like A/C# or D/F#. The problem is that when I use an oblique font transformation, the sharp sign is too close to the letter. So I'm trying to find a way (any way) to modify the space between the letter and the sharp. I created a custom shape for regular chords, but I ca...

Re: Adding a custom chord suffix to a slash chord
Sorry, I meant a custom alteration. I'm using a slanted font for chords, and the sharp and flat symbols are too close to the chord letter name (I'm using Engraver Font Extras oblique). I worked around this by creating a custom sharp and flat that are spaced better. I guess I could just add a text bo...

Re: Saving a custom chord suffix definition
Once I've imported those custom suffixes (which worked, thanks), is there a way to link them to a shortcut key? For example, typing D1 could give me a D chord symbol with the custom suffix automatically. As it is now, I have to right click the chord and add the suffix from the library. Still faster ...

Adding a custom chord suffix to a slash chord
I know how to add a custom chord suffix to a good ol' root chord. But when I try to add a new suffix to a slash chord, it disappears! For example, I have A/C, and I want to create a custom suffix for the C. But it won't let me. Normally a box pops up that says "Hey, I don't recognize this suffix. Do...

Saving a custom chord suffix definition
I had previously posted about creating a custom chord suffix. I figured that out. My question now is: is there a way to save a previously-created custom chord suffix? I made a bunch of tweaks, and I'd like to apply that suffix retroactively to a bunch of Finale files (I don't mind re-typing the chor...

I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, that's precisely the reason I purchased a laptop with UHD. Hopefully MM is working on this. I can't imagine it's long until high-res monitors are standard fare. Even now they're hardly a new thing. I thought v25 claimed to have rectified issues relating to UHD? Does anyo...

4K resolution issues
I just upgraded to a 4K laptop and opened a Finale file... and just about fell out of my chair. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL. But I'm noticing a couple problems: - redrawing takes way longer than it used it. Even when I click to select (and highlight) a staff system, or click and drag to move a staff up or dow...

@miker, I'm using Minion Pro. Never had a problem with it before. But NO font choice is allowing me to use alt+0151, even our old friend Times New Roman. It's like the key combo is gone. Thanks for the replies, all. motet: I have tried rebooting, to no avail. miker: an en dash isn't sufficient, unfortunately. I'd apologize here for being a typesetting nerd, but... haha ...and alt+0214 does indeed yield the capital O-umlaut. Still open to ideas. I'm flummoxed, and rather inconvenienc...

Re: em dash missing?
PS - ALT+0151 doesn't work in MS Word either. It returns a strange box with a question mark inside it. And that's for Calibri, not a strange font. Other ALT combinations work just fine. I had to force Word to automatically create an em dash, then copy and paste it into Finale lyrics. I can see the e...
