Re: Contra Bass or Double Bass?

Other names I've heard are "doghouse bass" or "bull fiddle" (most common) or "string bass" or just "bass" or "bass fiddle."

Re: empty measure 4/2 time

More research gave a way to re-set the default rest for empty measures. I thought to try this for 4/2. I couldn't get it to work. I don't know if dotted halves work for 3/2 and dotted wholes for 6/4 or the like.

It might be worth submitting an error report.

Re: empty measure 4/2 time

JW RHythm copy doesn't work as it needs at least 1 note. I'll look at the unfamiliar (to me) JW stuff and see if something simple can be done.

Re: empty measure 4/2 time

I'll try this later but perhaps JW Rhythm Copy could change whole rests in empty 4/2 measures to breve rests. I used for note patterns but I didn't see a restriction to rests.

Another strategy would be to edit the whole title contents (main title and other pages); then just change the main page.

Re: Where do I go to edit the title on page 2, 3 etc?

I'm not sure you can do this automatically. There is an entry under "Titles" in the Help files which states that titles have the same font as the default for Text Blocks; however, that default can be changed under "Text blocks."

Re: Best keyboard

I got a new computer (to celebrate my new shoulder) so I bought a new Logitech curved keyboard from Costco. It's wireless (I like these Eveready lithium batters for this type of work). It's very comfortable for Finale. (I got the cheap *70 or so one I think).

Re: delete beats or measures

If the soprano part is separate (staff or layer), you can copy that by highlighting and cut (<CTRL>-X). Then position the cursor where you would like the first note to go (over a beat or whatever), then paste. Make a copy and test a few times. I've moved entire staffs that way.

Re: Lay out

It looks like these are the "movable" menu boxes. They can be moved by "grabbing" them by handles on one of the corners (I forgot which one). Move the mouse cursor around the corners until something shows (that's my protocol)then drag the menu box to the desired place. I do it a lot but I don't reme...

Re: Copying a phrase in one key signature and pasting into a new key signature.

I just copy them then use the transpose function to put the notes back. It's not good, but not too bad. One thing that helps is copying several chunks (with the same starting and ending key) before transposing; fortunately transposing to itself doesn't seem to cause much of a problem. I haven't chec...

Re: Finale support

This may be a Windows problem rather than a Finale problem. I've had similar in the past. Making a separate file for temp files and others fixed a lot in Windows 7-10. I've had no problems with Windows 11. There is another Finale problem that was similar, having to do with redrawing the screen. Fina...

Re: Economical set up for running Finale well on a 4K monitor

I finally got my dual 4k monitors. Finale looks good but it's mostly limited by the program's programming and the internet over wire pair arrangement available. For running my big Fortran codes, I opted for an HP OMEN 30L with 64GB memory, 2T SSD, 2T 7200rpm, 3070 card, some 11th gen cpu stuff and c...

Re: dotted quarter rest

I haven't tried but the manual shows that under "Document" then "Document Options" and finally "Augmentation Dots" there is a way to change the position of all dots on notes and rests.

For a single note (and I guess rest), one can use "Special Tools" and "Dot Tool."

Garritan World Instruments includes the usual Jew's Harm and a Murtang. I haven't used either but GWI has worked in all the cases I tried.

Re: Prevent final double bar

I tried selecting the measure, choosing the "custom" box, then selecting #87 (from the box that pops up).
I don't know if this will stay after saving or if Finale will restore the double bar or add a new ending measure.

Re: Finale (27) & Windows 11

I found no trouble using FInale 27 with Windows 11. I upgraded one FInale computer to Windows 11 (the other is too old hardware-wise) and it seems to work. I have had driver problems with speakers but these go back to early Windows 10 (and back to 7 according to various internet sources.) Some versi...

Re: Tying Notes

Double dotted notes may seem esoteric but they were invented by Leopold Mozart so they've been around for a while. In the usual cases where the double dots do not occur on a "strong" part of the measure (syncopated dots is my name) these are easier to read than a bunch of ties. This is the same "rul...

Re: Playback Repeat Controls

If you click on the "gear" symbol on the playback tool, that opens playback start and end controls. The default is measure 1. You can set any measure (by number) or (the one I like best) the left-most measure currently being displayed. There are several more. I'm using Windows but I think the Mac is...

All of these are in the Garritan World Instrument package. Also in the JABB3.
I don't think these are available in GPO5 or GIFF.

Re: Enharmonic question

One point with going with the "correct" or "traditional" (B#) version is for ease of reading. I've got some rather irregular rhythmic patterns that I like, and thus overuse, but I still find these easier to read if written "correctly." I always figure that traditional music notation has had a few ce...

Re: Human Playback Rhythmic Feel

According to the Finale Manual (and tutorials), "Rhythmic Feel" is the amount (no base given) of subtle variation in the length and timing of the notes being played. It's much less than a "Viennese Waltz" change and smaller than rubato would add. I'm guessing (from a mathematical point of view) that...
