How does one "start the wrong way." I, as a novice, don't understand how one can "start the wrong way?"

Page offsets, even & odd
I found myself getting into a bit of a muddle (maybe it's just my being nearly 82) when reorganizing a large score in twelve Finale files. I had originally had each scene start on a right-hand page, whether or not the preceding scene had ended on a left-hand page. This meant there were around half a...

… … … as I do note entry via computer keyboard. Excruciatingly laborious, right?… … … It doesn't have to be. I've entered thousands, 10s of 1,000s I suspect, of bars of music, including opera, sometimes for large vocal and orchestral forces, using the QWERTY keyboard, and I have become fluent and r...

Re: Quarter + 8th in Triplet
What I do is enter the first note to define the triplet, then as necessary immediately back-space and change that note's value, which doesn't change the triplet value already established. All three triplets in the screenshot were entered in Speedy by entering a quaver (8th). In the second and third ...

OT (even more): in 1952, aged 12, I was taken sitting on top of a coach & four (horses) the 14 miles from Wisbech to Kings Lynn. Next to the coachman his colleague had a long, straight posthorn without valves on which he played traditional calls as we approached each inn along the road. People came ...

Finale 25 & Windows 11?
I've received this from a student: For the past few days, I haven't been able to start Finale 25 on my Windows 11 computer. It hangs when starting up, and I wonder if it could be the license checking which is done over the internet or something else. I presume a Microsoft update has been applied tha...

Re: Finale 25 articulations in Finale 27
John, when you installed F 27 I presume you had to re-set your programme preferences. eg Is automatic music spacing on or off & did you work with it on or off in F 25? Just a possibly irrelevant thought, but it might be worth comparing the preferences between the two versions of Finale. I've just ch...

Re: Finale 25 articulations in Finale 27
John Ruggero, Did you ever upgrade from Finale v25 to Finale v26? I could be wrong, but I think that the articulation issue came with Finale v26. When I opened Finale 25 documents in Finale 26, I had to edit the articulations, and adjust the Positioning settings. I wish I could remember what it was...

Re: JW plug-in doesn't show in menu
I hope they get round to adding more of the full set of JW plug-ins to work in this way. One I've made considerable use of, but which doesn't seem to be in the current list, is JW conceal barlines. There are other ways to do it, but the JW plug-in is much the easiest.

Re: What is going on with Times and TNR in Finale?
Ah. The problem is that MacOS seems to be 'hiding' some of the fonts that are bundled with it -- even though they are technically enabled. Most apps can't use these fonts. I've no idea why. Times seems to have joined the ranks of these fonts. … … … I never use Times New Roman intentionally, but Ti...

I'm unable to answer your question; but as I'm hoping to up-date everything, Mac hardware, OS *and* Finale before too long, I'll be interested to see what others may have to say about this.

One I've been using quite a lot recently which isn't included is JW Start New Piece, but otherwise this may tempt me to up-date everything sooner rather than later (Finale and Mac OS with new Mac hardware x 2).

Re: Horn in C
For Horn in C you need to set the transposition to "Up Octave" in the Score Manager. But if you're making a performing edition, do everyone a favor and put the Horn parts entirely in F. As an orchestral librarian for over 25 years, I disagree with this recommendation. Generally, our horn (and trump...

Some of these keystrokes/shortcuts may have changed after F 2011. Either way, in F 26 and I'm pretty sure also F27 there are lists of all the available keyboard shortcuts in each of the main tools available by clicking on Keyboard Shortcuts in the Help menu along the top menu bar (at least in the Ma...

Re: Note Spacing problems in Finale26
For me with Finale 26 on a Mac, I highlight the relevant bars (or press Command A to Select All), and then I key '4' for note spacing (or '5' for beat spacing). Automatic Update Layout should always be selected in Finale Preferences and usually also Automatic Music Spacing.

EDITED : I see you are on Windows. I've just tried typing Russian Cyrillic using Lyrics>Type into Score with Finale 26.3 and Mac 10.14.6 (Mojave). It works fine for me. Re: How not to have hyphens in lyrics in 1st ending measure?
There is a Unicode hard hyphen available at U 2011 which might do what you want. You'd need to experiment with different fonts and font sizes to get it looking right, but that's what I did very recently when I was setting Rudyard Kipling's ballad The Young British Soldier where the poem itself has c...

Hey Mike, what's the exact sequence to preview the edit filter window? I go shift/alt/v and it's basically showing me a right-click window, which doesn't help.....I also tried shift/alt/c, no go either. I think the Windows combination is slightly different. Shif-Alt(Option)-Click is the Mac version...
