Re: Forum basics
I saw two-page topics without the scrolling icon, so it may or may not take two pages to be popular, but the converse isn't true. Anyway, es macht nichts.

Re: Forum basics
On the right, the tiny page next to the last poster's name.
Apparently the scrolling icon means "popular", not multiple pages. I don't know what the precise definition of popular is, though.

Re: OT: Musical symbols for use in MS Word 2010
Thanks, Mike! I didn't know about the Advanced tab. Curiously, "baseline shift" and "baseline" were not helpful in Word's help search.

Re: Forum basics
Are the meanings of the little topic icons documented somewhere? What does the star mean? Occasionally there is an animated gif that emululates scrolling. I though perhaps that meant someone was writing a response, but that doesn't seem to be the case (see the "Who's here?").

Re: Repitch tool broken in 25.2?
I wonder if it would work to keep a copy of a "good" finale.ini file (or Mac equivalent) and copy this back in such situations rather than deleting.

Re: Repitch tool broken in 25.2?
The "Preferences" file in reality seems to be all manner of other things that Finale remembers in addition to what preferences have been set. It would be nice if they separated the two so the user doesn't have to suffer recreating their preferences when one of the myriad Finale bugs rears its head.

Why does the flat in the Bach font lie so low?
Maestro Times doesn't have this problem, but I don't like the looks of its flat symbol much.

Re: Extending bar lines and repeat lines
You can define a group for just the repeat bar (upper-right corner of Group Attributes bar). Select the measure stack of that measure and then choose Group/Add through the menu.

Re: Forum basics
Is there a way to ignore a topic so that it doesn't show up in "View unread posts"? Say I'm not interested in "Why don't the Mac scrollbars work?" for example. An "ignore from now on" button?

Re: Independent staff/system movements
You certainly had a right to expect that. But it also says When you drag or nudge the top staff of any system other than the first, Finale adjusts the distance between systems. It seems like with Alt it could move only the top staff and grow the system until it bumped into the one above, but alas it...

That's the way it works--there's nothing wrong with your system.

Re: Independent staff/system movements
I wonder if Nick is trying to move the top staff. It appears that moving the top staff handle moves the system, Alt or not.

Re: Forum basics
For me, at least, the best way to visit the forum is by looking at View Unread Posts, which I get to by clicking Board Index and then clicking View Unread Posts. But if you then read a thread, the only way I've found to get back to View Unread Posts, is the two-step process of going to Board Index a...

Re: Independent staff/system movements
Put cursor there, hold down Alt, and hold down the mouse button and drag. Or, click to turn it red, then use up- or down-arrow keys with Alt held down.

Re: Independent staff/system movements
I guess it's a setting which way that works. But it sounds like you are Alt-dragging correctly. It's a mystery why the other command doesn't work. Are you sure you're trying to move the staff in the Staff tool (sounds like you are, but I thought I'd double check). In any case, you could do forget ab...

Re: Center Systems Vertically on Page
Personally, I don't think a lot of white space above the first system on a page is attractive. I would rather it were all at the bottom, or else squeeze three systems in as N. says.

I would move the margins, then, and change the title to be located above the margin, which is possible.

Re: Center Systems Vertically on Page
That's rather an unusual request. If each page is different, I don't see a way of doing that other than manually, but maybe someone will have some ideas.

Re: Center Systems Vertically on Page
I'm not sure what you're asking. What do you mean by "centered vertically"? You want equal space above and below the two?

Re: fingering
Do you have a technique for saving just the custom articulations? If you save everything, including the standard ones, I've found you can get duplicates when you then load it into another file.

Re: Positioning a trem. sign under centre of note
Like heinzfan, I created a separate articulation for whole notes. Strangely, you need to use "note side" even though it goes on the side where the stem would be if it were a half note! Though JW Yaddah is useful, I mostly don't need it (I've altered the other tremolos as well).

Re: Independent staff/system movements
Does Alt/Option dragging work for other things? (It allows expressions to be moved to different beats, for example.)
