I have the exact opposite problem - the split stems always copy, even if "Special Alterations" is unchecked in the filter. Finale 2012 and 25.

I hit upon an idea that might have some merit. You can adjust the terminology and the language as needed.

Enter the slash notation as usual and enter the one bar repeat symbol as a Text Expression.

Re: Lyrics _ Word extension line
No. You could use a dashed Smart Shape line but you'd have to enter them all separately.
Just curious - what is the significance of a dashed word extension as opposed to the commonly used solid line?

Re: cue sized courtesy accidentals
I could be wrong, but I think the original question was about resizing parenthesized courtesy accidentals only. There would be no reason to resize an unparenthesized courtesy, that I can see - it serves no purpose. The JW plugin is the way to go, as I see it.

Re: cue sized courtesy accidentals
I have seen older plate engraved music where the parenthesized accidentals were smaller. However, if "cue size" means the usual 75% resizing, my opinion is that's too small. I'd guess 85-90% would be more appropriate. That's where JW Change comes in - you can specify the reduction exactly.

Re: cue sized courtesy accidentals
I was afraid there would not be an easy way to do it. In some music there are many courtesy accidentals, and putting them in one at a time would be extremely tedious. You should try the free JW Change plugin. You can set the plugin to affect all parenthesized accidentals in one go. Go here to downl...

Re: Smart Shape Questions: Cross Page Gliss and Masking
I tried entering the gliss the way you recommended, which is what I did to begin with, and it still is messing up across the page. It is only one page that is having issues. it is going from the bass clef to a treble cleff note, which is in the bass but I moved it across the staff. You moved the ba...

Re: Smart Shape Questions: Cross Page Gliss and Masking
The problem you're having with the gliss may have something to do with the way you're entering it. Try this: with the gliss tool, double click on the first note to be glissed. The gliss will appear and automatically attach itself to the second note. Does that work? Your second question is a bit hard...

There is no left hand stave pictured. It could be a piano "lead sheet". In fact, it may not be for piano at all. Maybe a lead sheet for horns with chord voicings indicated.ebiggs1 wrote:I am not a piano player but why not just write it in the left hand? Where it belongs !?

In the attached file, there is a jazz "fall" and a "scoop". They are Shape Expressions so there is no font involved. You can enter them into your file by setting the filter to copy Expressions and copying/pasting. To change the shape or size, double click on the shape's handle and move the control p...

Re: adding lyrics with no melody
So does each word or syllable need to be assigned to a rest? Or is it possible to attach several words to one rest? It would be best to attach one word to one rest. You don't have to attach a word to every rest - if you run a series of eighth rests, you can skip over a rest or two to space the word...

There appear to be more ending brackets than necessary in those measures. That's what's causing an error. To enter a 1st/2nd ending: •With the Repeat Tool, highlight the measure(s) comprising the 1st ending only •Right Click on the highlighted area, and pick "Create 1st and 2nd ending" from the menu...

It would help to see a Finale file exhibiting the problem. If you want, delete all of the measures except the 4 in question and maybe a few on either side of the repeat. Right now it's just a guessing game.

I'd suggest you have a Time Machine backup or a clone of your current hard drive on an external drive. Go ahead and update to High Sierra. You can restore your current setup from the backup if anything is amiss.
My Sierra setup works flawlessly so I'll be leaving it be for a good long time.

Re: Upgrade or Switch to Sibelius?
I am studying at a school with a very well known composer who uses Sibelius and he is pushing me to move to the dark side (a.k.a. Sibelius). The majority of the school students and faculty also use Sibelius. These are good reasons to seriously consider adding Sibelius to your toolbox. You could the...

You don't say if you're on Macintosh or Windows. If Windows, you could probably go back to Finale 2009 with few or no problems. Macintosh is not so backwards compatible, so you're stuck with Finale 25. With a few exceptions, you should be able to use Finale 25 in the same manner as 2009. Just ignore...

Here are some thoughts. You seem to have an interest in what I'll call the "commercial" music field. I don't usually work in that field - I'm in publishing with occasional recording session work. So perhaps take some of my thoughts with a bit of caution. 1) You can adjust the default positioning of ...

There are many way to automatically change font names, globally, or for specific items, in Finale - there's the Change Fonts plug-in I suppose the question is: is staying on 2012 the best solution to this issue as the years go by? Thank you for your comments and tips. I had forgotten about the "Cha...
