Re: notation of strumming patterns

Hopefully forum member 'Djard' will see this and respond. He is well versed on contemporary playing techniques for guitar. You might want to send him a private message pointing him to this discussion. He's a real gentleman so I'm sure wouldn't mind.

Re: How to save new articulation symbol for new document?

Copy and paste a measure containing the special articulation into the file you're working on. The special articulation will now be found in that file's articulation selection. Delete what you pasted in.

Re: Changing chord definition universally?

In the Chord Suffix designer window, find the mi7(b5) suffix. Click on it and click the delete button below. You'll be asked if you want to substitute another suffix - find the desired suffix and click OK.

It sounds like the first measure is defined as a pickup measure. Delete the pickup using the document menu. Any difference?

Still another option is to see if using the easy to read more common enharmonics is possible. Yeah, I know what the music books say, but even a few experienced musicians will get glitched sightreading this.

Re: Smart shape hook cap

N Grossingink: Have you tried a vertical line in shape designer for the custom arrowhead? I always get a blank space between the vertical line and the horizontal line of the custom line. Yes, but I get the blank space too. I used my angled "arrowhead" on a solid line. After some futzing around I go...

Here's my hook with the 8va starting text. It's a Custom Smart Shape that might not play back but that can be arranged thru other means.

You could make a custom smart shape line with a custom arrowhead in the shape of a hook. See attached.

Enter the flag as an articulation or expression. The music fonts have all of the flags as single symbols.

If you bought your computer from a local dealer you might want to have them check it over to see if it is operating correctly.

I've never seen that before, that I can remember. The Time Signatures take some of the visual focus away from the repeat bar.

The single barline before a time change is customary. To me, its presence in this case is harmless.

Re: first second endings collisions in parts

There are a lot of us that would like to try Perfect Layout but the lack of a full featured short term demo version is holding us back. I know that you offer to process a file sent via email and return the result, but one really needs to have the software to test multiple times, at their leisure. Is...

Re: Would you do anything?

Peter's example looks great and undoubtably would have been the way an excellent plate engraver would have handled it. By the way, Dorico is able to "tuck" (move closer) accidentals in various ways, eliminating some of these problems.

Re: Shift individual clef(s) horizontally

The adjustment is file specific. If you want it program wide for new files, modify the "Maestro Default File". Older files are what they are.

The shape designer accepts fractional evpus but somehow I don't trust that. You should be OK with whole evpus.

Re: Shift individual clef(s) horizontally

It looks like the "TAB" clef is a shape. Go to the Clef Designer, click on the TAB clef, and click the "Shape" button. Click "Edit" and adjust the Horizontal field at upper right. Does that work?

Re: Shift individual clef(s) horizontally

The only solution I can think of is to hide the clef with a Staff Style and insert a clef as text with the Expression Tool. If you could elaborate a bit on your reasons for wanting this, maybe there's a better way someone could suggest.

Re: Mark Up a Score?

Yep… that may be the best way. And—by doing it as an expression—it stays attached to the measure. I would use a Measure-attached text box. In Preferences > Display Colors, set the color of these to bright red or whatever you like. Go to the Text Tool menu and switch to "Measure Attached" and set th...

Re: Single line is stuck on a page

Take a look at the attached file. This is similar to how Percussion parts for performance or published music are laid out. Your sample is way too spread out for the amount of material present. Maybe "Perfect Layout" can be tweaked to give a more professional result. I use Perfect Layout also, but it...

Have you been saving the file as you work? If so, there must be a backup somewhere. Finale makes backups by default. Do a system search for the name of the file.
