Re: Default Transpose all keys proportionally

It doesn't come up often, but as I produce pieces, there are some. I use them in zoom sessions for people to play along; we often want to exercise with a piece in different keys, so the internal key change mistake doesn't occur only when I'm working on the original doc. I have to change keys on the ...

Default Transpose all keys proportionally

This is a longshot -- when I transpose (Key Sig tool) a piece that has a key change, often as not, I forget to include "Transpose all keys proportionally". I don't see anywhere to switch the default to ON, but it would be nice to have it that way, or at least a warning given in any case. Is there so...

Re: Chords by region

Wow -- thanks for that, HaraldS! Exactly what I was looking for. Now I see that had I searched the User Manual for the simple term "chord region" that it comes up. And it has some nice options. I note that the "Chords" entry in the manual doesn't mention the plug-in -- there is "Chord analysis" in t...

Re: Chords by region

Thanks, yes. But specifically, I am writing tunes with oompah or oompahpah bass lines consisting of low ooms and 3-note pahs. I split the ooms from the pahs to separate staves with TG Tools Smart Split Point plug-in (what a blessing that is). That leaves a mile of pure 3-note pah chords, which Final...

Is it possible to add chords all at once in a selected region?

Re: Selecting a single note -- why?

Indeed, I see it now -- I had tried double-clicking the note-head before, per the ever-present definition of Selection Tool at the bottom of the screen, but apparently I wasn't fast enough, as nothing happened -- my hand is sometimes a bit unstable. Now it flips to Simple Entry, and I have another u...

Re: Selecting a single note -- why?

Thanks, motet. I think I have all of the other measure & note-grabbing Selection-Tool actions down. This single-note thing happens when I'm in a hurry, say, to copy a measure to the next measure, or transpose it, or other, and I don't look carefully to avoid notes themselves. Maybe I will ask at Fin...

Selecting a single note -- why?

Often when I try to select a measure with the Selection Tool, I hit a note, and then only that note gets highlighted, and not the full time-zone of the note, just the note. Despite everything I have learned about Finale -- lots of it here, thank you -- I have never found a use for Selection Tool sel...

How to arrange document windows

Suppose I have a lot of documents open, and I want to arrange them (Window > Tile Windows Horizontally / Vertically). I tried switching them around to where I want them -- sometimes some stick, sometimes not. It is laborious to go through Cascade -- re-arrangement can be done there, and translates b...

Re: Manually adjusting VERTICAL placement of individual rests

Thanks for that tip, zuill -- problem solved. Some experimentation nets Rests > Placement Style > either of the Floating options or Default-Centered on Staff give the rests independence from transpositions. It is a strange contradiction -- when you select Vertical Level, what I have always used, the...

Re: Manually adjusting VERTICAL placement of individual rests

I just experimented with my sample doc -- I copied m1-4 to a 3rd line, deleted the 8th rests there and replaced them with new ones. These behave. So, it's like the m1-4 rests think that they are notes. But then I wrote out a new line with quarters in beat 3, then changed them to 8ths (Alt-4) and ent...

Re: Manually adjusting VERTICAL placement of individual rests

I'm tagging my new problem on here bc it's close to the same subject. I write a lot of pieces lately, and transpose them frequently in order to play along in lots of keys. Everything fine, except all of a sudden in one piece (that has an 8th rest in every m) the rests go up & down with the notes whe...

Re: New installation, sound gone & not gone

In transferring my new computer back to where the old one was, and where my laptop had been filling in for it, the whole thing went to hell, but I just got it all back, even with the change to 44100. I remember seeing in the Finale manual somewhere Noteman says you need 44100 or something doesn't wo...

Re: New installation, sound gone & not gone

Thanks, zuill. By coincidence, I just realized that I hadn't fiddled with the Audio Driver choices -- so I tried Direct sound, and was much relieved to see that at least Finale was not muting my computer. If there are still problems, I await the entrance of motet to direct me. Not knowing quite how ...

New installation, sound gone & not gone

My old computer crashed, so I bought a new one (Windows 10, both). Finale 26.3 (re)installed. I am using a smart TV for monitor, and sometimes for sound; connection is HDMI. The computer runs this successfully, and also external speakers plugged into the sound port. Finale recognizes (Midi/Audio > D...

Re: Play only on Pass x trouble

Here is the response to close out these issues: ======================================== You can refer to Human Playback Dictionary in the user manual. HP recognizes "rall," of course. Usually, it is not a problem to duplicate and/or edit expressions. However, HP is a very complex engine, so we can'...

Re: Play only on Pass x trouble

That works perfectly, zuill, and thanks, but I'm not quite enabled yet. I (finally!) see that this work is in the Midi Tool, and so your visible expression might be only decoration, or is it? I see the sloped line you drew at Midi Tool to define the rit. I don't yet know how to do that -- my next pr...

Play only on Pass x trouble

Sorry to be repeatedly troubled lately. The attached doc refuses to ritard on Pass 3. This is a dumbed-down, speeded-up version of the original faulty doc. I have constructed a couple of same-structure docs ( ending 1,3), ending 2, repeats, D.S. ), same number of measures, etc., that do work correct...

Re: 3rd ending Fine trouble

That was a good puzzle, the other change you made. In my desperation before, I fiddled with that too -- the Go To Measure def -- and as I recall they weren't the same, but that was because the infinite-repetition problem wasn't solved. Re the barline choices, I generally make them in the traditional...

3rd ending Fine trouble

Not sure is this should be regarded as a general Finale problem or Playback. The attached doc indicates the desired sequence. I can't stop the return after D.S. from going to 2nd-ending, so 3rd-ending is never seen. It is as if 2nd-ending forgets that it has been used. Secondarily, my desperate "Go ...

Thanks, zuill -- can you explain how to implement ["Hard Wire" HP into the score]. And is that deletable by Clear Selected > Midi Data or other?
